  • Hey guys another Epiphone Les Paul Review. I really like the looks and feel of this one guys. Probably one of the better guitars I have ever played in this line. The gold top came in first, this one came in second between 4 guitars I played. Let me know what you think in the comments?

I have one as well. The black beauty version. I own three Gibson Les Pauls and this stands right up there with them. It's a stunningly beautiful, well made instrument and sounds as good as my Gibsons. Am baffled how they can be sold at the price point given their quality and sophistication. Can't go wrong. One thing that's so great is the headstock harkens back to the "Kalamazoo" style. Nice touch!

    • @aaronperrotta7055

Don't be baffled. It's at that price point because of Chinese labor costs. I'm not being a smart-ass, but the same people who think we should get $15 minimum wage, are the first people to complain about the price of an American made guitar.

I got the ebony one, about 3 months ago. It’s beautiful and it sounds great. I read a lot of great comments. Yes Epiphones are great guitars, especially that new inspired by Gibson collection, 2020 and after, new headstock, ebony fret board. Yes, the experiments were made in the Epiphone factory in Queens originally by Les Paul himself, so they are part of the history of the model. I understand that some people will still want to put the 3000$ + to have the Gibson name, a few adders (pickups and wiring mostly). But to me you have to be a professional player to put that extra money. Those Pro Bucker pickups are really good, I was surprised. When I was a teenager, my first guitar had that same look. It was a Japanese copy of a Les Paul Custom Ebony. I always wanted to get an Epiphone Les Paul Custom, so when I saw that recent improvement, I realised that now is the right time. Maybe one day I’ll get a Gibson, but I don’t see a huge difference. There is a difference, but I think you pay a lot. If I was a professional player, earning a living, then I would probably do it. For me getting an Epiphone, with what you get today under 1000$ CAN is just amazing. I hope more people are going to be proud of that Epiphone name on the headstock. Today this production in Asia is becoming extremely good and for a large part of guitar players out there, I truly think it’s becoming more and more popular. Great guitar, highly recommend it.

The Epiphones are really good for the price but i prefer the Gibson Standard Les Paul 60s over any Epiphones.. When you tried everything from 600€/$ Epiphones to 6k Custom shop Gibsons the Standard 50s / 60s Models are just golden. The tone, intonation and quality are better on the Gibsons than Epis. But whats not worth getting would be the Gibson Custom Shop, the price tag of 2x or more of a standard Gibson LP is not justified. You either buy Gibson Standard LPs or if you dont have the money, dont plan to gig or dont do any Studio recordings then go for custom Epis. But like i said standard 50s or 60s Gibson LP are golden Middle for anything, they are true Workhorses.. from recording Serious music in studios, live concerts, giging, jamming to practicing at home, while the Gibson Customs are more of a decoration and a showoff or for someone who is a hardcore gibson enjoyer.

Just got mine a couple weeks ago! Loving that thing to death. I've always wanted an Epi LP Custom but never got around to it. After seeing they updated all their models for 2020 including the headstock, I finally pulled the trigger! It gives me that fat Les Paul tone I'm looking for. I swapped out the tuners for Gold Grover keystone locking heads just to further get it to look the business and I'm swapping out the pickups for a Seymour Duncan Slash set!

What i’m really waiting for is the re-release of the 1959 Les Paul Standard which will come with an aged finish and Gibson Burstbuckers....def going to consider getting one even though I just got a guitar :)

I don't understand why people hate epiphones and love overpriced gibsons. Epiphone is an older brand it has almost 150 years old history. Epi was the biggest rival of gibson. Founder of the epiphone died and gibson has bought the company. They've been making stringed instruments since the Ottoman times.(founder of the company was a greek man from the city İzmir, located in turkey currently) I have 3 epi's. One Lp custom, sg custom and zakk wylde zv custom. they are all incredibly good sounding guitars. I can buy a gibson les paul too but why would i ? i prefer 3 different great guitars instead of one gibson

    • @Shred_The_Weapon
      @Shred_The_Weapon 4 года назад +2

Which is why I was so stoked to get my second Sheraton II, because it almost carries a greater heritage than the ES-335, despite being an outsource guitar. The research and development guys at Gibson probably lifted so much of what they learned about hollow body instruments from Epiphone. Additionally, the original Epiphone factory in Queens was where Les Paul himself designed the prototype solid body electric guitar, the one which was shafted for 10 years by Gibson.

I feel you, id rather buy an american performer strat/tele and a epi lp custom or modern than to buy a gibson lp classic or traditional. Or a mim strat and tele and a epi sg standard. Dont get me wrong itd be nice to have a lp studio, classic, traditional, or even standard 50's/60's. But simply put, companies like prs and esp put out american made single cuts for sub 2k that feel far superior. A guitar is only the tool, it doesn't do the work for you, and working all those extra hours instead of playing to save up for that gibson is more of a hindrance than buying the prs/esp/fender/epi and using all that extra time you saved to play. Especially for the home musician

As the owner of 2021- Epi Korina V, LP Custom (same as this but ebony), Bonomassa LP Lazarus, and an SG, as well as a player of 40+ years, I will attest to their quality, excellent fit and finish, and very solid tone. The Lazurus is far and away the best of the bunch. It's got USA guts, and a long-tenon one-piece neck mahog neck, so on paper it should, and it does. But...it's still not on par with my Classic or Standard.
I also own a 2019 LP Standard, 2018 LP Tribute DC Special, and a 2022 LP Classic.
There is just something the Gibsons do that the Epi guitars don't do. It's hard to put my finger on it (aside from the obvious superior tone; as should be expected), but there is a big difference between the two brands. Gibson USA built that into the grand scheme! Is the difference worth $1-2k more? That's for the individual to decide. But the difference is there. The Lazurus proved that.
Regardless, all my Epiphones (except Lazarus) are getting new bridges and pickups. The SG and the V got locking tuners.
And the Korina V? Man! Mine is absolutely flawless, minus the bridge. The fit and finish is just fantastic. Love that guitar. It's getting some nice pickups.
Using these as most hobbyists do - at bedroom levels, and through budget amps - they are more than good. They're great. In fact, from a fit and finish standpoint, the fun project guitar I bought, a $189 Firefly (LP) Custom, has even better

Nice guitar, however, why, oh why, do so many guitar reviewers insist on only demonstrating guitars like this in over driven modes!!! Don't get me wrong, I like to play some pieces with varying levels of distortion, however, I also want to hear the natural clean sound of the guitar as only then do you get to hear the true sound of the woods and pick-ups. Distortion can hide imperfections in the natural sound of such instruments and so, in my opinion, reviews that only feature overdriven sounds do the instruments a diservice.

I would like to know something. Is this guitar 700 plus dollars because of the fancy hardware and ebony fretboard but still has the same tone as my 450 dollar Epiphone?

Is it just it me or it looks smaller than its Gibson counterpart? I refuse to believe it! I mean, I personally wouldn't mind a 3/4 scale but that would make a difference in terms of aesthetics too!

I have one on order; it should be in my hands by the end of this week. Do you think there is any chance that Epiphone may re-introduce the Les Paul Recording? I'm not referring to the Irridium, but the Recording model, with the Decade control. I had one (00111525) from 1979-93, and loved it, but had to sell.

So what did they change from the 2014 to 2019 custom pro? Just the fretboard material (ebony) and the headstock shape?

Brilliant guitars. Build quality is fabulous but almost every one needs a fret level due to high frets. Once that's sorted they are fabulous and to me as good as the Gibson version
If they just took a bit more time on levelling as the fret ends etc are perfect and it's Dunlop fretwire they are using but I ain't complaining 40 quid to my local luthier and it plays better than any Les Paul I've owned and I've had Edwards, fujigens, burnys, tokais and Gibson's with me finding Gibson to have the worst playability and faults. My three grand Les Paul had file marks on the binding and the nitro cracked on headstock really bad. Yes I know it's meant to age but flakes of it fell off despite the guitar being stored correctly.
I also own a Vintage Lemon Drop one of the early versions with the Peter green mod
I'd highly recommend these too they have no laquer finish and play the very best. Try to find the earlier models from 2008 to 2010 they have the traditional square heel joint rather than the new vintage scoop cutaway. They are long neck tenon made too which is unbelievable and the Wilkinson hardware and pickups are top notch. Seth lover after all showed in person Trev Wilkinson how to make an early PAF.

Do these Epiphone's still have the super thick polyurethane finish? I could care less about any of the parts ill likely upgrade anyway but without a thin nitro or some sort of real lacquer finish I'll still never buy it. Always thought the ESP Edwards E- lp LTC guitars in lacquer from japan were a much much better value, or even some of the higher-end Chibsons on eBay and aliexpress. At least compared to Epiphone.... Seems that Gibson intentionally limits the quality which is otherwise available from asian manufacturers at this price point to not eat into sales of their over priced USA made stuff......

All the manufacturers need to ditch the gold hardware. None of it ages very well. It never looks relic'd, it looks broken down.
