Great comparison. Gibson sounds slightly better, but Epiphone looks great and at 1/4 price is heck of a deal. New headstock is definitely an improvement.

Tape all those hundred dollar bills that you’re going to save to your amp, and then see what sounds better. Your average audience member isn’t gonna notice. They probably won’t notice the name on the headstock either 😂.

In this particular video and with these settings I liked the epiphone sound better, nonetheless I own both a gibson and and epi and the gibson plays better and is somehow softer feeling (less effort for bends and chording). Still i feel i love my epiphone more, like the brand for the underdogs

I just got an Epiphone Ebony LP Custom. And I’m amazed at the quality for the price. I like the sound of the neck pickup. I’m not a big user of the bridge pickup. I think the only clearly noticable advantages with Gibson are: The bridge pickup sounds a bit warmer. And the quality of the wood. It’s why I think getting an Epiphone Ebony LP Custom is sweet, because you don’t really notice that maple wood grain which is almost like a 2000$ upgrade with Gibson almost only for the wood. I also heard a few times that the Epiphone LP Custom being an entirely mahogany body is also a good choice for resonance of the wood. Maybe I’ll change those gold finish pickup covers eventually but I don’t mind. Overall it’s an awesome guitar. Great comparison. Thank you.

To my ears the Gibson sounds better, the clean channel. For the price difference I really don’t think you could not be happy with the EPI. I’m seriously thinking about getting one. The new headstock is a great improvement. As long as it plays well I’m sold. Great video! Thanks for comparing the two.🤙👍

Les Paul Customs are my absolute favorite Les Paul model. Unfortunately for me, the Gibson LP Customs are no longer attainable ever since they moved them from standard production to the custom shop exclusively. The new Epi customs look and sound great though. I especially like the koa wood model.

I just ordered an alpine white epiphone LP custom and am thinking of upgrading the (already quite decent) pickups for seymore duncan APH-2S SLASH ALNICOII's - I think with that upgrade, the epiphone will sound better than the gibson! I hope ;)

It does sound much better. I have a 2016 Les Paul custom pro alnico white. I put Seymour Duncan slash pickups in it. That didn't quite do the trick on sound so I put in a new set of pots in it from 920 D Customs. That is where I finally saw the pickups come to life. I put a new bridge in it, and a new bone nut also, and kluson style locking tuners as well.. I can say with confidence my guitar is better than Gibson now. I also wore down the frets pretty fast and put new stainless steel frets on it too. It's like a whole new guitar

Epiphone Les Pauls tend to sound thinner than Gibsons. Less lows/low mids. The biggest difference is in feel and any tonal difference is most noticeable when you compare them unplugged. But when will you ever play a Les Paul at a show unplugged!? The new Epiphone guitars are outstanding imho

Snagged a new '21 Epi LP custom silverburst this week! After new strings and setup, the actions lower than both my Epi LP '59s. The all mahogany body sounds much deeper/fuller than the '59s. The Gotoh Magnum locking keystone tuners, EMG 81/85 pup kit and Schaller strap locks will be here Sunday! It's already nestled in a new black EpiLite hardcase! I'll have just over a $stack$ into it with everything and couldn't be happier! Its gonna be the one you pull out in the wee hours of the night, and wake up on the floor with, cuddling! I'm a very sick man.

I have an EBMM Luke III. It sounds and plays so well. One piece rosewood neck - sublime! But, the Dimarzios it comes with are at least a few steps hotter than my EBMM Silhouette Special and I always have to dial down my amps and pedals with the Luke. I know, poor me, but I do wish the Luke was a tad lower output.
Will be interesting to see how much adjustments I have to make between my USA Standard and my incoming Epi Custom.

i know so many people having both Custom or Standard Gibsons and as well Epi Custom, almost everyone say that for the price of 1 to 1.2k you get an Guitar thats often equal good as the USA Made.. Even a lot of Guitar Shop owners say that the new "Inspirred by Gibsons" Epiphones of 1,2k €/$ have better wood quality and better feel on neck while playing than the 2,600€/$ Gibson Standard 50s / 60s.. The newer Gibsons Standards Necks feels like old Epiphone Standard necks lel

My thoughts - First off, very nice, and well done vid. Thank you!
For the LP Standard - I really think it depends on WHAT Standard it is. Gibson went to new leadership in 2019 and they changed a LOT and in a really good way. It trickled all the way over to the Epi line as we see on the 2020+ Epi line and on this Custom.
When Gibson started the Traditional line, and I started reading every review I could get my eyes on, I was sold. Handwiring, no more of those stupid, and cheap PCB controls, and just an overall increase in build quality and QC. So I took a leap of faith and ordered a mid-2019 Standard - half expecting to return it, based on my previous 20 years of trying to get a nice Les Paul and failing to locate one. Fast forward, it's sitting 5' from me. It is exquisite. Not a flaw to be found. An unexpected nice, low-key AA flame on it (I'm not a fan of AAA flame tops personally). Set up was, and still is, flawless (to be expected as they are all plekked now). I am mostly a Strat and Tele player, but I've always wanted a good LP. There's just something magical about a good/great one. I feel like I have that in mine - as do friends who have played it. So I think it's a good benchmark.
For fun, I got a Firefly - the Custom. Absolutely remarkable for the money. Close to the real thing? Not remotely if you know what a good LP is. I'm not even going to mod it. I'm selling it after one week with it.
BUT - I still wanted a Custom, so I ordered a black Epi Custom. I'm excited about it! If any part of me doesn't like the Burstbuckers, but I like everything else, I've got a set of Seymour Duncans ready to drop in it.
So I'll be able to do my own identical comparison tomorrow (7/31/21)! 🤘
Gibson did not start out as just a name, but there is just some intangible that I haven't seen anything else touch, and that includes two PRS Core Singlecuts.

For me I think the tone of a electric guitar is secondary but playability is the top priority. Unlike a acoustic guitar, you can change the pickup but you can’t change a neck or body on a glued neck electric guitar.
A decent pickup with a nice amp can sound really great, but a bad neck with a nice amp can’t improve the playability..xD
So which one feels and plays better?

If that’s the main thing, then in my opinion I wouldn’t buy a Les Paul, I would buy a Ibanez (or any other brand with a thin neck), I think that more than that is the iconic look and sound, because to be realistic nowadays in terms of playability there are way better guitars due to ergonomic evolution design.
In my case an Ibanez is like a Buggati which is a faster car but on the other hand you have a Les Paul which is a classic Mustang lower speed, more problems but you have an iconic look, feel and sound 😬

Gibson make beautiful guitars, but imo, it's just not worth the price hike. These new Epi's are 100% on par with Gibby's that are 4x the cost. I was in the market for an LP recently, and I tried 3 from the "inspired by Gibson" line up, compared them to Gibsons. The difference in price is nowhere near justified. The only argument would be "better wood" and "American craftsmanship"....well, I don't think that amounts to much these days. The Epiphone specs are right on par, and the 3 I tested were all very well built instruments. I thought the Standard 60's sounded the best, but I didn't like the Laurel fretboard. The custom Ebony fretboard just played like butter. Then I found the Modern which has absolutely insane specs for the price: a real maple cap, mahogany body and neck, a real ebony fretboard, locking tuners, graphtech nut etc. The build is just amazing for the price. I ended up returning the Standards 60's and keeping both the custom and the modern. So for the price of a Gibson Studio, not even a Standard, I now have two guitars that I would consider better spec'd instruments than the Studio, and I certainly didn't think it was worth it to increase my budget by a 3rd to get a single Gibby standard. Just my two cents!
