  • Old Craftsman LT1000 wouldn't move. Fixed by getting new battery, unstuck the engine, replacing fuel line, and adding new square key to wheel and axle.

    The tire went flat on my tractor and when I changed the tire, mine wouldn't move either. I thought the belt may have come loose. I noticed the key on the ground and tomorrow I will repeat the process you showed. Thank you for putting this together! A real help!

      FYI if anyone is attempting this at home make sure to drop your mower deck to accommodate the wheel coming on and off easily, maybe spray some lubricant on the axel and inside rim connector to slide easy.

    This video really helped! We had a flat tire today and removed the wheel to have the inner tube replaced. Not knowing that this key existed, we couldn't figure out why the tractor would no longer move. After watching this, we found the key in the yard where we had removed the tire, replaced it .. And voila! Many thanks!

    Thanks SO much for this video!!! My grandpa was fixing to change the whole rear end out of his mower because he couldn’t figure out what was wrong!! All it was was the key for the wheel!!! Your video saved the day!!! $2 fix instead of replacing some huge part of the mower(which still wouldn’t have fixed it)!!!

    Thanks buddy! I had taken my tire off and it wouldn't move after I put it back on. I tried purging the transaxle about 50 times with no success. So I knew I was missing something. I came across your video, and decided to remove the wheel again. When I did, there was no square key. I looked around and it was on the ground under the mower. I popped it in and now the mower moves just like its supposed to! Thanks!

    I fixed the electrical problems I had with my LT1000 and got everything running great only to find out the automatic transmission won't go forward or reverse. I was very frustrated and then i watched this video. As it turns out YOU ARE 100% CORRECT! I had removed the back tire to fix a slow leak and didn't pay attention to the small key on the axel. I just checked and sure enough, it's missing. Thanks for the easy fix!

I can't push it out of my trailer because it will not roll. I put it in the neutral position and disengage the lever for the transmission disengagement, but it will NOT roll. It starts well and the cutting blade engages but it does not move forward or backwards while engaging the lever on the RHS. Travis you have to be seated on the LT 1000 series and most of the Cub Cadets and Deere mowers made after 1991 or so some had those switches as far back as the early 1980's Cub Cadet and Sears were the first ones if I remember correctly and unless you modify that switch you will have to be seated on the tractor to start it.... I work on em every day and I have a special cinder block wrapped and rags and duct tape to put on a seat to start em up without having to be on the unit.

    but I will check for the Key as well bevause I changed tires. whered u get the key

    • @winebikediy
      @winebikediy  8 лет назад

      +cchsTROMBONE Yes, check the key! I got it from a tractor/mower store here in town. The part number is 123583X.. and the specs are 3/16 X 3/16 by 1 7/8 inch long.

    • @winebikediy
      @winebikediy  8 лет назад

      +cchsTROMBONE Ask your local lawn/tractor store for that part. They should have a longer piece of 3/16 by 3/16 .. and ask them to cut just short of 2 inches.. that should work! Remember that both wheels must have that key to work..

    Help. My Craftsman riding mower will not freewheel. I cannot push it. I pull out the transmission/trans-axle lever on the back of the mower to disengage it, but I still cannot push it. The wheels will only turn in opposite directions. What is wrong? Thank you.

    Ok so I have just replaced my brake pads on my lt1000. I just finished putting the wheel back on and the weirdest thing has happened. My axels are turning in opposite directions. One axel goes forward while the other goes backwards🤷‍♂️ I’m super confused but this also my first time truly fixing something

    • @winebikediy

      are the axels spinning by itself or are the wheels also spinning? You might be missing both keys?

    • @winebikediy
      @winebikediy  8 лет назад +1

      Unfortunately I wouldn't know how to help, since the engine is designed to cool itself down. At least the engine I have spins the top part which pulls air down. Maybe you can time it and use the mower with a few breaks in between to help keep the temp. down?

      @@robsdoes2987 That is correct on a Briggs or Kohler motor... If that intake valve is a pussy hair off they will run hotter much much hotter... Say on a 90 degree summer day if that intake valve ain't opening all the way it does heat up both series motors & on the Brigg's engines it can seem like a compression release problenm or cause it to break with too much combustion pressure in the motor... I have a video that was sent to me by ICOR Inc. back in the early 90's has video about the Brigg's motors having just that issue... It states & implies that on the Brigg's motors the INTAKE VALVE should not have any clearance whatsoever and over the years I have found this to actually be true.. I do not let a LASH/GAP on the INTAKE side of the Brigg's or Kolher motors... Works 4 me and screw U if you if ya wanna troll me... I got one here now and the intake valve was thee very NO START issue.. It had a TINY lash and the motor almost seemed like the compression release was the issue... I tightened the turkey intake valve down and whatdya know poof it started right up and still runs a week later... This something to be addressed in forums and I have found the 18 horse and above single and twin cylinder engines intake sides to be highly sensitive to adjustments. It seems a bit a tight is right and zero lash or better.

      Hello Marie.. Quick questions for you:
      - have you checked the key on both axels?
      - have you checked the driving belt?
      Regarding the blades, you can find my video about the V-belts here
      ruclips.net/video/vhP5Xmtx1Vo/видео.html
      Let me know if that helps.. If not, help me understand a little more whats going on.

    • @winebikediy
      @winebikediy  7 лет назад +3

      Hello +Marie mas, this is what you can do:
      1- turn the mower on..
      2- put it in gear.. and release the clutch..
      3- check if the axles are spinning..
      3a- if they are spinning but the wheels are not, then you are missing a key.
      3b. if you are in gear and once you release the clutch the axle is not spinning, then it is a belt issue..
      You have 2 belts, one that connects the engine to the transmissions and one that connects the engine to the blades.
      Let me know what you find.
