Actually, I did find the key. Right where it would have fallen out. Sure enough, mower is running like a champ 😁. However, with the corona shutdown,I've been doing everything but mowing the lawn. And the weather around here has only allowed for a day here or day there to get other outdoor projects done. But, thanks for the link 😁. Would have definitely needed it if I changed the tire in the grass.
Hi Steve, I have an older Murray lawn tractor in really nice shape 12 horse Briggs with 36 inch cut. 6 speed with reverse. problem I'm having is that it shifts fine when the motor is off but once it's running it doesn't want to shift into other gears it's very hard to shift. Do you think its a belt not allowing trans to fully disengage or worn shift keys?
Hey Steve I kind of ran into this yesterday on a clients mower I knew the check the key sure enough it was gone. My question would be will it still engage the transmission and move somewhat if the key is still in place on the other tire? It's rare 2 flats happen at same time lol I'm just curious because I assume.it should have engaged the transaxel and make the transmission spin?
OMG!!! This happened an hour ago to me! JD L110 that I bought new in 2004, 571 hours on it. Changed my tire, put it back on and no movement. Thought it was for sure transmission related and was ready after 20 years to give it away. Jumped on RUclips and you were the 1st and last vid I watched! Walked into the driveway, found the pin and now I'm driving! Thanks so much Steve!!
I'm so glad my video was able to help you get your JD L110 back up and running! It's always great to hear success stories like yours. Keep up the good work!
You, sir, are a gift to mankind. I went through every single stage and step of mechanical grief you described so perfectly - shouted multiple choice phrases - only to have this be *exactly* what happened. Took two minutes to remedy and now I'm back to mowing. Bless you, sir. Keep up the excellent work and cheers!
Steve - You are the MAN!!! I just did that exactly with my X300 John Deere Rider. I had a flat and took it off to have the tire repaired. When I put it back on, I noticed the tire would spin freely on the axle and thought that was odd but went ahead with the install. Lo and behold, when I cranked the mower, it would not move. I loaded the mower on my trailer to take it to the dealer since I was convinced the transaxle had failed over the winter with no use. Then the smartest thing I did all day was look at this RUclips and it described my situation and my fix EXACTLY!!!. Just as you predicted, when I looked at the ground where I had removed the tire, I found the locking key. I took off the plastic wheel hub, C CLip and washer and inserted the key and I am GOOD TO GO!!! Thanks STEVE. You saved me.
WOW, this is exactly what happened. Found my square key stock in the grass where I removed the wheel. Grass mowed and many beers down the hatch. Thanks a million Steve!
OMG! I'm 64 years old. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I put new wheels on old .hurray ride mower. Everything put back on. Then would not go forward. Just paid 300.00 to fix a bunch of stuff on it. So very disappointed that it would not go. Other videos wanted me to take ton of stuff off too check. I saw your video and thought What is a keyway. Low and behold that was the prob. Had no idea that was evan a thing. AND, looked and it was right where I took the tire off. In the dirt and grass. A miracle I even found it! Thanks!!!
My new "go to" place for useful information! Struggling to identify the problem for 2 days and then my wife spends 5 minutes Googling and ... bam, there you go! Thanks Steve and you've earned the 98.8% positive ratings. Your videos are enjoyable, informative, solve real problems and include beer! Raising a cold one to you right now. Cheers!
You were right on the money! I had just replaced the right rear tire, being very mindful of no losing the dust cap, the washer, the key, and the locking clip. And after putting it back together, nothing. None of the other videos on RUclips even mentioned that the key could be missing. I found it under where I was working, and lo and behold, there was the key on the garage floor. The part of your video showing the two slots lining up …. Yanked the wheel of, lined up the slots and five minutes later I was driving around the yard. Grass will be cut tomorrow. Thanks! You are the man!
Many thanks! This was the *exact* issue I had, as I just removed the wheel to adjust the brakes. Went back in the yard, found the key and was working within minutes! You saved me a lot of time and money, sir! Cheers to you!
This was actually the issue I had. Everything in this video just played out in my garage about an hour ago...including the kicking and yelling at the lawnmower. Thanks for the video!!!
I didn't remove my tire...wondering if the key can slip out...My JD was going up about a 2' incline and just stopped engaging last summer. I used push mower the rest of the season. I wonder if I should check for a lost pin...Thanks for video.
Steve you're the man! Like others this played out just the way you describe. Just spent $200 + on TLC for my Husqvarna, including mounting 4 new tires tonight. Jumped on cranked it up and won't move. Found your video, walked straight out into the yard and picked up the right rear key out of of the dirt. Slid it in and it took off! Didn't realize the right was the positive drive side and the left is just following along. The left tire slid on so easy, and I thought I got lucky when the right one did too, but It was because I had knocked the key out.
I just watched your video, went back to my lawnmower and found the 'key' right where I took the tire off. Popped it back in and away I went. Yer a freakin' geeeeenius! I am now a subscriber and fan. Appreciate your sense of humour and the shout outs. Very cool. Now to buy some merch with the money I saved NOT taking my mower to a shop.
I just had this issue with my John Deere 110. Tire was flat, removed it and took it into town and filled it with air, then came back home and put it on. No forward or backward movement after I cranked up the mower. Googled and watched your video, went out and found the 3/16" key right where I took the tire off. Put it back in and I was in business. @@StevesSmallEngineSaloon Lived in New Hampshire growing up, used to make trips to Canada to get some Molson Brador. Highly recommend. I know now where to turn to when I have issues with my mower, weedwacker or chainsaw.
You are now my go to man!! For repair info! Thank you! I couldn't find key and up in the mountains we don't go in to town much ! So I wanted to rule this out before replacing drive belt...sure enough! I used grinder on Allen wrench and made one fit tight like a glove !! Mowed the hell out of lawn just lacking a 🍻!! I'm a happy 61 yr old female!!! Thanks!
OMG! What a relief! What you said is Exactly how I reacted. My wife was LHAO as we watched this video together. “That’s you”, she said. Dude, you nailed it hoser!
Writing this on behalf of my dad who doesn’t have a RUclips account. He loved this video so much that he asked me to share his comments through my account: “Super helpful video! You saved me a lot of time and money.” (He’s seen his fair share of RUclips videos and has been perfectly content saying nothing on them, so this is incredibly high praise.)
Best video Ever. My husband and I had lost the clips in the grass. Thanks to you and your video,we are back to mowing Thank you , from two 66 year old fuddy duds.
This just saved me! I had a lot of anti seize grease and I didn't see the key fell out. Just watched your video and couldn't help but go back down to the garage at night, find the key and fix it. All is good now. After 2 blown John Deere tires that I fixed this was the last issue I needed. So thank you for the help!
This amazed me. It was my exact problem. I went out this morning to look for it in my gravel carport. I actually found it and mowed for the final time this year. Now I want to buy you a beer. Thank you for making this video
Your video made my 75 year old mother-in-law look great! I went over there and she handed me that pin and said she found that in the grass after replacing her flat tire. I was convinced that she had a transmission issue. I never noticed the axel spinning without the wheel. We looked at several RUclips videos and found nothing helpful. She found your video and is on top of the world that she got it fixed. (As well as the gratification that she finally fixed something that I couldn’t. 🤣) Thanks for the video!!
You are a legend! 3 of your videos helped me fix the key missing after I fixed a tire. Fixed my deck not engaging. Now to find out why when it go into reverse with the pro on it wants to stall out! Again thank you so much! Update: it was the reverse safety switch on the dash board. Working like a top!
Worked like a charm for our Husqvarna. I changed the flat tire before season started and didn’t notice the key stock and I lost it. Any hardware store Carrie’s the 3/16 key stock! Replaced it and now mower is runnin like a caddy! Awesome video
Awesome! You nailed it, dude. I was ready to take the whole blamed thing apart, watched a dozen videos about transmission problems, but it was a stupid little key that fell out when my bro took the wheel off for repair. Thanks, man.
As soon as you said something about fixing a flat I started looking for the key! Found it, installed it and back in business. Thanks for saving me a lot of unnecessary work.
Yeah, hydraulic may be easier to run and convenient, but when it goes, it's cheaper to replace the entire mower. I had one and will never get another one. They're more expensive too. I'm back to the mechanical stick shift. More reliable and dependable.
@ Woodrow Magnus, 2 things with hydro trans to not do; Don’t believe the ‘non serviceable part’ you get from most mower manufactures, You can change the oil & replace internal parts. Don’t tow & brake alot if you can, helps for durability. It is cheaper this way than to replace whole mower & will last as good as old school pure mechanical setup 😉
@@tnblly24203 pins in place...both sides. Ground drive belt was jammed. Took hours to remove. I didn't want to damage if belt wasn't damaged. Bought new belt before removing. 2 reasons, new belt available if needed, see how was configured. Belt not damaged or stretched! Hummmmm. New belt is on bc put on as took old one off. So i now have a back up!! Taking it easy on mower.. lots ruts and hills. I get stuck in them bouncing around sometimes trying toget out no more that!
Absolutely fantastic video, got a john deer 160 and all I had to do was figure out why it wasn't moving, lowes $1.97 and shes alive, thank you!!! That's after my old snapper engine blew the hell up
Thank you very much from France - completely didn't know about this piece, and I managed to find it back somewhere on the ground. To French people passing by, this piece is a "clavette"
Steve you're the Man! I never noticed the key when I puled the wheel to fix a flat. You saved me big $$ when I bought $4 key stock instead of having to pay to pick up my mower, fix it and then return it. Thanks so much.
Wow Steve, Greetings from Australia! This happened to me and I had a mower servce picking up the mower and quoting me $1,250 + labour to replace the transmission. You are a star mate.
Holy shit, i'm dying. Your story about "flat, changed, reassembled, not moving, pissed off, cursing" was basically a verbatim script of my last half hour. Thanks again for all your hard work Steve! This video just save me from burning the 'deere in the backyard. #CanadaProud
Same here. Changed my rear tire and the axle was just spinning and wouldn’t move. Knew it had to be something small since I just drove it in the garage to change it. Found that stupid key under the mower. Runs fine now. Never would’ve known without this video!
Awesome video!! I had removed the tires for repair, saw the little bar, but had no idea what it was for. Thank goodness I saved it, and thank goodness for this video! I had watched nearly every video on riding mower transmissions, none of the diy videos fixed my problem. As soon as you mentioned the little key, I knew you were on to something. Retrieved and installed the key, mower drives like a charm. Thank you!!!
Dude , you were a Godsend today. I googled the symptoms and your video popped up....and then continued to blow my mind by describing my exact experiences and frustration. You seriously might have been hiding in the bushes for all I know , because you described the entire ordeal to a T haha
I agree with everyone on here. You saved me 153 dollar pick up fee and who knows how much for labor to discover it was only the axle key. Thank you so much!!!
If it has the plastic transmission, around 100 hours of use, a screw on top of the transmission pulls through a washer atop of a spring. There's a few videos of this issue and how to repair the problem. I have a JD d105 that I will be working on this week. It seems to be an easy fix but getting to it is going to be a bit tedious.
I picked up a free riding mower last week. The guy said it wouldn't go forward or reverse. I noticed right away that he had put a new tire on it. Turns out the axle is splined and he put a wheel on with a round hub. I bought the original wheel and tire from him for $25 put it on and that was the problem. I then sold the mower for $450. Thank you for this video!
omg. Thank you GOD for this video. I thought my transmission was dead. I changed both of my back tires recently because they dry rotted. You live and you learn...
You sir are a gift the mankind! I was already shopping for a new mower! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I would gladly donate to whatever cause you want!!!!
I was having this problem so I took it to a local repair shop. What they found was seized barring in one of the pulls wheels which was not allowing the drive belt to move. About $100 dollars and a mowing I'm going. 😊
life saver, completely forgot about it and the key was still in my old tire...thankfully it wasnt something worse, seems like everything is breaking these last few days.
I had a flat tire on my John Deere LA120 and I fixed it . Thought my mower was done for when it wouldn't move after that . I was doubtful when saw Steve's video but I ordered the part anyway . Put the little peg in the wheel and , Lo and Behold , I'm back in business again . Thanks so much Steve ! Great video !
I was away from the house and had to get off my mower. When I got back on, it wouldn't go at all . After lots of fussing, the guy from inside the liquor store yelled that I was on a lawn chair, not my mower! Jees oh Pete! Your little key wasn't gonna help me
Wow you are a life saver man! I just took the rear tire off my John Deere today to plug a hole and sure enough it wouldn't go backwards or forwards, I was planning to load it up and take it to the JD dealer Friday. I was thinking what a bummer this thing didn't even last but a year and its giving me problems. Then I decided to search for a video on this problem and there you are! Thanks again.
Thank you Steve. My belt jumped off the back transmission pulley and I had to remove one of my rear tires. Put the belt on and the darn thing wouldn’t move. I thought the transmission had went out. But after watching this video I found my key laying in the grass. I pulled the wheel and put the key back on and presto the thing pulls again. Thank you so much.
My dad has been cursing his lawn mower, trying to fix it for 2 days. Then he found your video... He called me laughing, telling me he watched this video and sure as shit, found the key in the grass! He was so impressed with the video and asked me to leave a comment cause he couldnt figure out how 😂 So thanks from my dad Now off to buy you a beer from him cause he cant figure that out either
You're the man Steve! I had this exact situation after changing out the right rear tire on my LA135 and just as you said that key went missing without me realizing it. I just picked up a generic 3/16th by 1 3/4" key at the hardware store and was up and running in 5 minutes. I shall hoist a Labatt Blue in your honor this evening!
Ditto! I just finished attaching a brake rod that I fabricated from a piece of 3/8” round stock, got the wheel back on ready to go.... went no where! Waisted 30 minutes trying to figure out what I did... came to the Small Engine Saloon, soon as he said the wheel key, the light bulb came on! Thank you Steve for the education. I’ll never do that again! Lol
Wish I had found this this morning, instead of spending 2 hours tearing things apart to check belts and worrying about the transmission. Seems like a no brainer, but an easy miss for a beginner. You saved me a trip to the local repair guy! Thanks. Subscribed!
I was thinking that the problem started after I fixed and remounted a wheel but could not figure out a connection. I cleaned out the mud and grass and installed a new drive belt. You are the only one with a video that addressed the issue. Thank you sir and I will visit your friend's shop next time we are in the area.
I’ve got a Simplicity riding mower that’s about 20 years old. I knew about the key, but just got so excited to see if TireJect would really fix a dry rotted tire It slipped my mind😥 the tireject worked but the mower wouldn’t move! I’ll check to see if the key is in there In the morning! If it’s not, I have some key stock from losing them before. Thanks Steve, I think you may have just given a 20 year old Simplicity a new lease on life!
A magnet on a stick or string can help locate the lost key if it's made of ferrous metal. A metal detector will too, but those are quite a bit more spendy.
💯 Changed the tire, gassed it, had to jump it, and still zip. You are totally correct. I even noticed the key missing and then forgot about it. Well done, sir.
I owe you some beers! After feeling pleased with myself for fixing a flat tire jumped back on to no movement. Spent the next few hours stripping down to find all pullies good then stumbled across this. Sure enough buried in the grass was that pesky little piece of metal. Slotted right back in and bingo....i'm all fired up. That tiny piece of bar is one powerful dude!
My mind is blown. It’s like you time traveled to the future and watched my husband do this and say EXACTLY THE SAME THING! Thank you for making this video! You just saved us $5k in a new mower and we only had to spend $4! Thank you!
Thank you for this video. I had the exact issue with my transmission when I changed the rear tires, the transmission I thought would not engage when I replaced my fuel line and fuel tank on my JD LT 155. The dealer wanted $100 to look at this thing. I had no idea where the two keys went that I found on my garage floor. Your fix worked very well and my mower is working properly. Thanks again Steve you just picked up another subscriber. Now on to fixing my JD chainsaw. Semper Fi
With that said. Is there not another key on the other side that should allow the system to work? I've never lost mine but it's a solid axle so it should turn.
SPOT ON!!!! THANK YOU!!!, I found the little sucker in the grass, I only use this 19 year old John Deere for the bagging a few times a year, so I cut with the other mower since now the deere wouldn't move because low air caused the tire to pop off the rim on my drive to garage. I cut around the stranded mower with my zero turn....the taller grass where the mower had stopped was the key to finding the correct location, because I had already pushed the immobile tracker near the shed. thanks again.
!#@$*#!¥£! Keys!! Great info. No when I have to change my first flat I'll remember "Steve said there's a key here, DON'T LOSE IT!!" ....but I still probably will..lol Thanks Steve!!
Thank you so much man, I spent 4 hours working on it, took the deck off messed with all the wiring harnesses checked the fuse and got the whole mower taken apart just about. I got so frustrated after combing through 7 different videos I finally found this one and sure enough that was the issue, I don’t know weather to be happy or mad but it’s fixed so that’s what’s important!!!
That is one of the best and most useful help video I have seen! Exactly what happened to me, including me kicking the new tire once it was installed and then did not go in drive!! Now off to the shower to wash to itchy grass off me from crawling around for 20 minutes looking for the damn part that fell off! Cheers to you Mr. Blue...
Steve you are a genius. Just fixed mine today after wondering wtf for the last 2 weeks. It's almost December and had to cut my leaves in Ontario Canada one last time lol. Thanks so much and enjoy your labbat Blue. Drink Molson tho!!
Man your awesome!!! Found it right where i replaced the tire. And i was cursing my mower and was about ready to give up after changing all the fuel components to finally get it started and hear the motor again and then no movement hahaha. As i was drinking my Mac and Jacks to trying to relax i found your video and it solved my final problem. God sent if you ask me lol. A big thanks.
After putting a new tire on my girlfriend’s Craftsman mower, the thing wouldn't drive. I was ready to go buy her a new mower when I saw this on RUclips. Turns out a two dollar key saved me from buying a new mower. Thank you so much for this video!
i got a used mower for free two years ago. scotts 16/42. we had a smaller house last year and didnt need it. lawn the size of a big quilt. lol. but i got it running, replaced the fuel filter and starter solenoid. stuck it in the garage until we moved. now we got a couple of acres to mow and really need it. had to put tubes in both back tires. keep having to put air in them every week. and thought i replaced the axle keys. had one fell out and was loosing my mind this morning thought my trany was shot. sincerely thank you. watched this video. pulled off the rear wheels and only one key was in place. quick trip to the tractor supply on the bike and back in business. cheers. im drinking the coors original today. what you got?
Steve you are the man! Your exact scenario is exactly what happened. I was calling John Deere and my dealer on Monday thinking I had a disaster on my hands. Thank you!
I got a flat tire yesterday and drove my mower to the barn. I took the tire off, got it repaired, put it back on and it wouldn’t move. I took the mowing part out of my craftsman YT4000, checked the pulleys and the belts, everything! Was pissed off beyond belief! Then I saw this video and remembered that my tire free spun when I put it back on. Went out to the barn, found the key for the tire, put it in, washer and clamp, then dust cap, started it up and I’ll be damned! It worked! Thanks man and have a Labatt Blue and a subscribe on me!
Not too often I get my exact problem fixed from a RUclips video, but I did this time. After multiple setbacks trying to get my lawn mowed, this video fixed my problem and gave me an excellent reason to open a beer!
I highly recommend everyone own a rolling yard magnet! I got mine at the Tractor store when I got chickens to pick up loose nails but it’s amazing how much I’ve found like the pin he’s talking about. It’s saved my neck multiple times!
My guy, you are a lifesaver. I don’t know who still coming here in 2024 but dude, you don’t even know the half of it so I was about to drive up to John Deere and drive my truck with a mower on it through the front doors because this is exactly what happened, I didn’t find my key, but I went and got the replacement part for thanks again. You literally save me from having a heart attack.
I did exactly as you said. Pulled the wheel to install a tube, put the thing back on, started the engine put it in gear and went nowhere... couldn't figure it out, but when I pushed the mower out there was the key. I had no idea where the key went until I found this video.. many thanks to you...
OMG! ive been trying to fix my mower all week as it wont drive until i saw this , just changed my back wheel as it had a punture last week and not moved since i put it back on ! gonna go check it out now !

So I wanted to rule this out before replacing drive belt...sure enough! I used grinder on Allen wrench and made one fit tight like a glove !! Mowed the hell out of lawn just lacking a 🍻!! I'm a happy 61 yr old female!!! Thanks!
I am so happy I helped Susan....
OMG! What a relief! What you said is Exactly how I reacted. My wife was LHAO as we watched this video together. “That’s you”, she said. Dude, you nailed it hoser!
Right on buddy!
Writing this on behalf of my dad who doesn’t have a RUclips account. He loved this video so much that he asked me to share his comments through my account:
“Super helpful video! You saved me a lot of time and money.”
(He’s seen his fair share of RUclips videos and has been perfectly content saying nothing on them, so this is incredibly high praise.)
Right on Amber! Thank You...
Best video Ever.
My husband and I had lost the clips in the grass.
Thanks to you and your video,we are back to mowing
Thank you ,
from two 66 year old fuddy duds.
That is awesome!
You're welcome!
This amazed me. It was my exact problem. I went out this morning to look for it in my gravel carport. I actually found it and mowed for the final time this year. Now I want to buy you a beer. Thank you for making this video
Cheers! I'll gladly accept that beer as payment for my video services. Just make sure it's a cold one!
absolutely. MT makes the best cold beer. like a slush , almost. goes down fast. well mine does@@StevesSmallEngineSaloon
You saved my marriage. My wife was _not pleased_ that the mower wasn't working. I watched the video, found the key, and I'm back in business.
Right on Johnny! Thank You...
Awesome!
Great to hear!
Awesome! You nailed it, dude. I was ready to take the whole blamed thing apart, watched a dozen videos about transmission problems, but it was a stupid little key that fell out when my bro took the wheel off for repair. Thanks, man.
Glad it helped!
As soon as you said something about fixing a flat I started looking for the key! Found it, installed it and back in business. Thanks for saving me a lot of unnecessary work.
Nice work!
Yeah but what if it wasn't a tire issue? Do you have a video on the internals of a hydraulic drive transmission? Or a mechanical one?
Yeah, hydraulic may be easier to run and convenient, but when it goes, it's cheaper to replace the entire mower. I had one and will never get another one. They're more expensive too. I'm back to the mechanical stick shift. More reliable and dependable.
Do you have anything on a mechanical transmission
@ Woodrow Magnus, 2 things with hydro trans to not do;
Don’t believe the ‘non serviceable part’ you get from most mower manufactures,
You can change the oil & replace internal parts.
Don’t tow & brake alot if you can, helps for durability.
It is cheaper this way than to replace whole mower & will last as good as old school pure mechanical setup 😉
Rene' Jantz the cotter pin came out of the linkage on my riding mower. New pin moving again.
That's after my old snapper engine blew the hell up
Nice work!
You're Welcome...
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. You saved me endless grief. How you described it was exactly my experience. Thanks and great job!
You're Welcome...
Wow Steve, Greetings from Australia! This happened to me and I had a mower servce picking up the mower and quoting me $1,250 + labour to replace the transmission. You are a star mate.
Oh wow!
Holy shit, i'm dying. Your story about "flat, changed, reassembled, not moving, pissed off, cursing" was basically a verbatim script of my last half hour. Thanks again for all your hard work Steve! This video just save me from burning the 'deere in the backyard. #CanadaProud
Right on...
Same here. Changed my rear tire and the axle was just spinning and wouldn’t move. Knew it had to be something small since I just drove it in the garage to change it. Found that stupid key under the mower. Runs fine now. Never would’ve known without this video!
Must’ve felt personal when he said to calm down 😂
Awesome video!!
You're Welcome...
Dude , you were a Godsend today. I googled the symptoms and your video popped up....and then continued to blow my mind by describing my exact experiences and frustration. You seriously might have been hiding in the bushes for all I know , because you described the entire ordeal to a T haha
LOL! Thats awesome buddy....
Thank you so much very helpful.
My neighbor had this problem today, everything looked great couldn’t figure it out, you are a life saver!
Right on
Steve thanks man, I had the trailer hook up and ready to haul my mower to the shop, you saved me a lot of time and money. Nice delivery also👍🏾
You're Welcome...
I agree with everyone on here. You saved me 153 dollar pick up fee and who knows how much for labor to discover it was only the axle key. Thank you so much!!!
You're Welcome...
Hi Steve, my John Deere Tractor, stopped as you described, however, I have not (did not remove the Tire), any idea as to what the problem could be???
I notice he can't answer this.....I have the same problem.
@@buddyholly313 me too!!
Me too
If it has the plastic transmission, around 100 hours of use, a screw on top of the transmission pulls through a washer atop of a spring.
Steve, your videos are the "bomb" man! They have made repairs on my lawn tractor and leaf blower an interesting BUT enjoyable task. Thanks a mil
You're Welcome...
omg. Thank you GOD for this video. I thought my transmission was dead. I changed both of my back tires recently because they dry rotted. You live and you learn...
Right on Buddy...
Brilliant! You saved me a lot of work. Thanks! I never would have thought of this.
Glad I could help!
You sir are a gift the mankind! I was already shopping for a new mower! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I would gladly donate to whatever cause you want!!!!
Glad to help
I was having this problem so I took it to a local repair shop. What they found was seized barring in one of the pulls wheels which was not allowing the drive belt to move. About $100 dollars and a mowing I'm going. 😊
hi Nelson from murfreesboro TN, thank GOD for your help and thank you
You're Welcome...
life saver, completely forgot about it and the key was still in my old tire...thankfully it wasnt something worse, seems like everything is breaking these last few days.
Right on Buddy!
Thank you so much Steve this was 1000000% the problem. I am 16 and was able to amaze my mom and grandmother with being able to fix it “ALL BY MYSELF”
Right on Buddy!
OMG....you just made my day Steve!!!! Great tip, thank you.
You're Welcome...
Nice work!
Nice job!
Exactly what happened in my case. THANK YOU!!
You're Welcome...
This video saved me SO MUCH TIME AND EFFORT! If I ever meet you in person.... the next case of beer is on ME! Thank you!!!!!!
Glad it helped!
I was driving my Craftsman, turned and applied brake, then gave it gas to go, and nothing, no forward, no reverse, it was running fine. Any ideas?
Did you check the transmission or the starter plug
Thank you Steve. My belt jumped off the back transmission pulley and I had to remove one of my rear tires. Put the belt on and the darn thing wouldn’t move. I thought the transmission had went out. But after watching this video I found my key laying in the grass. I pulled the wheel and put the key back on and presto the thing pulls again. Thank you so much.
Glad it helped
My dad has been cursing his lawn mower, trying to fix it for 2 days. Then he found your video...
He called me laughing, telling me he watched this video and sure as shit, found the key in the grass! He was so impressed with the video and asked me to leave a comment cause he couldnt figure out how 😂
So thanks from my dad
Now off to buy you a beer from him cause he cant figure that out either
Right on ! That's Awesome and say Hi to dad for me....
Same here, Cassidy, except it was my wife that found the video!
Thanks Steve .... legend!
Right on
Can this guy make DIY videos for all my life problems
So simple. Thank you. Every other video said "look for this bolt by the gear shift.....". You saved me a lot of time.
Glad it helped
You saved me from losing my mind, I thought about getting rid of my tractor before I saw this video and I found the key laying on the floor lol
Awesome...
Lol
Funny, I AM the wife and was able to solve the problem after my HUSBAND fixed the flat tire for me! You're the BEST!! ;
Great job!
Wish I had found this this morning, instead of spending 2 hours tearing things apart to check belts and worrying about the transmission. Seems like a no brainer, but an easy miss for a beginner. You saved me a trip to the local repair guy! Thanks. Subscribed!
Right on Buddy! Thank You...
Steve, this can't be my issue because I have not done any work on my rear wheels, but all of a sudden my JD won't go into gear.
Did you figure it out?
Lol
@@johnmustang2323 yes, my belt was worn and I bought an new one and presto
That wasn't my problem either so how did you fix yours
I can’t figure out my problem either
I was thinking that the problem started after I fixed and remounted a wheel but could not figure out a connection. I cleaned out the mud and grass and installed a new drive belt. You are the only one with a video that addressed the issue. Thank you sir and I will visit your friend's shop next time we are in the area.
Great to hear!
Right on...
LOL I was about ready to go buy a new lawn mower was so upset! Thank you sir I really appreciate your knowledge have a blessed day God bless you
Glad to help
A magnet on a stick or string can help locate the lost key if it's made of ferrous metal. A metal detector will too, but those are quite a bit more spendy.
Right On...
💯 Changed the tire, gassed it, had to jump it, and still zip. You are totally correct. I even noticed the key missing and then forgot about it. Well done, sir.
Thank You...
I'm having the same issue. However, i never change the tire and the drive belt and key is intact.. Any idea what else could cause this to happen?
same thing please help
I owe you some beers! After feeling pleased with myself for fixing a flat tire jumped back on to no movement. Spent the next few hours stripping down to find all pullies good then stumbled across this. Sure enough buried in the grass was that pesky little piece of metal. Slotted right back in and bingo....i'm all fired up. That tiny piece of bar is one powerful dude!
Right on
Steve I also like L Blue when I watch my wife mow the grass! Lol
LMAO! ANY beer is great for that job...
My mind is blown. It’s like you time traveled to the future and watched my husband do this and say EXACTLY THE SAME THING! Thank you for making this video! You just saved us $5k in a new mower and we only had to spend $4! Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Thanks Steve for all you do!!!!!!
You're Welcome...
Semper Fi
Great to hear!
Ace hardware has them on shelves ....
If you're doing any maintenance on grass, always drive the machine onto a length of old carpet. It saves so much time looking for dropped parts.
With that said. Is there not another key on the other side that should allow the system to work? I've never lost mine but it's a solid axle so it should turn.
It is actually not a solid axle. If it was it would be "posi track" and when you turned on the lawn, one wheel would tear the grass apart....
Hey Steve, just had that happen and watching your video helped me fix it so I could have the yard mowed before my husband got home!!! Your the man!
Nice work!
YES!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was about to light this damn tractor on FIRE!!! Fixed Thank you
You're Welcome...
You're Welcome...
!#@$*#!¥£! Keys!!
Great info. No when I have to change my first flat I'll remember "Steve said there's a key here, DON'T LOSE IT!!"
....but I still probably will..lol
Thanks Steve!!
Right On...
3 years later. This video save me thank you
You're Welcome...
"Calm down, eh. Have a sip of beer"
Glad it helped
Maybe the guys had to many beers, that's why the guys lost the key in the first place !! 😂👍🍺🍺🍺🍺
Blue...
Thank You...
Omg buddy thank you so much !!!!! I could kiss you lol ur amazing
LOL, glad to help...
Steve you are a genius. Just fixed mine today after wondering wtf for the last 2 weeks. It's almost December and had to cut my leaves in Ontario Canada one last time lol. Thanks so much and enjoy your labbat Blue. Drink Molson tho!!
Right on Buddy! Thank You...and You're Welcome...
my dad yanked the small metal rod sticking out the back of the mower. This disconnects the trans as well
Thank you so much! Easy solution that I never thought of! New subscriber here!
Glad I could help
After putting a new tire on my girlfriend’s Craftsman mower, the thing wouldn't drive. I was ready to go buy her a new mower when I saw this on RUclips. Turns out a two dollar key saved me from buying a new mower. Thank you so much for this video!
You're Welcome...
i got a used mower for free two years ago. scotts 16/42. we had a smaller house last year and didnt need it. lawn the size of a big quilt. lol. but i got it running, replaced the fuel filter and starter solenoid. stuck it in the garage until we moved. now we got a couple of acres to mow and really need it. had to put tubes in both back tires. keep having to put air in them every week. and thought i replaced the axle keys. had one fell out and was loosing my mind this morning thought my trany was shot. sincerely thank you. watched this video. pulled off the rear wheels and only one key was in place. quick trip to the tractor supply on the bike and back in business. cheers. im drinking the coors original today. what you got?
Steve you are the man! Your exact scenario is exactly what happened. I was calling John Deere and my dealer on Monday thinking I had a disaster on my hands. Thank you!
You're Welcome...
Right on Joey! Thank You...
Not too often I get my exact problem fixed from a RUclips video, but I did this time. After multiple setbacks trying to get my lawn mowed, this video fixed my problem and gave me an excellent reason to open a beer!
Nice work!
Right on buddy! Thank You...
I did exactly as you said. Pulled the wheel to install a tube, put the thing back on, started the engine put it in gear and went nowhere... couldn't figure it out, but when I pushed the mower out there was the key. I had no idea where the key went until I found this video.. many thanks to you...
You're Welcome...
OMG! ive been trying to fix my mower all week as it wont drive until i saw this , just changed my back wheel as it had a punture last week and not moved since i put it back on ! gonna go check it out now !
Good luck!
Just sent this video to a potential customer! They better buy one of your hats bc you saved them a BOAT LOAD OF MONEY!
