    I do the storms the same way, but sometimes the aluminum frames can mark the walls, so I will usually cover the corners with a towel or blue rags if marking is a likelihood. I almost always hold the frame with one hand while scrubbing/ scraping/squeegeeing them

    I have always worked clockwise from the entry or stairwell on 2nd floor. I set up a storm station using towels like you did. As I take the windows out, the bottom and then the top, I set them against wall or furniture using a towel over the top of the first window to protect whatever is it's against. I then move to the next one and the next, putting each set in front of the previous. As I wash them, I set them to the side onto another towel. They end up in reverse order, but with the back side now facing out. I now know which one goes where since they're all in order.
    That was how I did it 30 years ago. Now instead of using towels on the floor, I use bath mats which have a thick cloth with a rubber backing. I did it this way today for the first time, and it worked out well.
    However, I priced the job way too low based on what you said. Since I haven't done it in 30 years, I bid just slightly higher that what I did then. It took me 2 days to complete. Partly due to being out of practice, and partly that I am now 62 years old and am not quite as fast as I was, and I got tired quicker. Based on your prices, I would have made close to $700. Live and learn...

    Hi SteveO, I have 1980s double track storm window screens. The screens have no obvious way to open or remove theme. No sliders like the glass panels and no screen plunger system. How can these screens be removed?

    Have you done the old wood storm windows that you lift off from outside? Good video, I do the exact same thing with storms like these. I don’t mind storms, great money if you’ve been there and have a process.

      I've done old farm houses with those storms and it's no fun working solo, sliding them down a ladder while holding the frames in front of you. I don't do those anymore (Thank God).

    I do a lot of old storms in Chicago and man my knuckles get busted up sometimes getting them in and out. I've been setting them on the window sill with a towel to keep them from slipping off and keeping myself off my knees and usually do the outside windows first then inside window and storm putting them back in as I go. Good video thanks.

      I've tried cleaning the outside first as a short cut--once. After water dripped down through the crack onto the outside bottom, I now do inside first.

    I live in a very high area of retirees. Many with storms. The problem i found is they won't pay the 30 per window (total) very hard to scale a company on storms. Too many unknown variables. Screens and a screen cleaner is the best roi hands down.

    What’s your residential workflow after removing screens? Do you clean tracks first or last? And do you start windows inside or outside?

    • @SteveOthewindowcleaner
      @SteveOthewindowcleaner  2 года назад +3

      I always clean inside first and remove screens as I go, while also cleaning tracks if part of the job. Then wash screens after inside is done. Then clean the outside and reinstall exterior screens and then but pack any screens on the inside

      How do you clean storm windows in a mobile home when the top windows don't come out nor the outside bottom? Only the inside bottom comes out

  • @mdefiel
    @mdefiel 2 года назад

    I do storm windows the exact same way. I also prefer it over the storm window easel method. However I cleaning the storm window on the window ledge with the bottom sash closed and the storm window pressed up against the closed window. The window ledge is protected with a huck towel. I thought this method was kind of risky because the window frames and ledge might get scratched. The guy Who told me use to work for a very large window cleaning company on cape cod Massachusetts. They’ve never had a problem scratching the window frames. This method is much easier on my back.

    • @mdefiel
      @mdefiel 2 года назад

      The storm panes get cleaned on the window ledge of the window they came out of. When I put them back on the floor they get flipped around so the person who puts them back in doesn’t have to flip anything. Also the frames get a swipe with a terry cloth towel to clean and dry them.

    Hi, the way that I do my storms is with: ( a step ladder, a piece of gutter and 2 large screws ) because my knees, in that way I can do the storms stand up and no water on the floor

    I had similar windows like this but they had like panels so one window had a window on top of it and I would have to unclip it and clean that window panel on the ground and that window as well. Took me like 10 hours for the whole job but I made like 525 lol. If I knew how they worked from the started I'd have done it waaaay quicker.

      They most likely do come out from the inside, storms can get jammed if they're older. Email me a photo to steveo@windowcleaningresource.com and I can provide some tips
