This was VERY HELPFUL! I think it would be cool to have entire videos on very specific scenarios like “posing non-models sitting on different kinds of chairs” or “posing non-models on against walls”, like “5 easiest poses for non models using a prop”.
I have only recently started portrait photography. I have convinced a few male friends willing to model for me but are as novices as myself. Researching there is tonnes and tonnes of female photography lessons but only found you content so relevant to me. Thank you. Keep them rolling please 😀
This was really fun to watch. Dan is really playful. I loved the setting and this video did really help with learning how to pose men who are not models. I hope to see more like this! Thank you Julia!
Great video, thanks Julia. I would love to see something similar for men, but based around a more industrial or trade based aesthetic. Pose a plumber, a concreter...a fireman!
This was such a beautiful and heartwarming video! From the amazing autumn leaves scenery to the wonderful (and funny) model! 😆Certainly looking forward to more photoshoot tips for male subjects!
Really helpful video. Yes, you can definitely do more videos like this because your videos really help to become a better photographer. Dan, thank you for you too!
Thanks for this Julia. i love how you connect with your male not model. Me, as a male photographer is really awkward to shoot men and how to ask them what should they do and how should they pose on camera. I'll apply this with my awkward male friends. looking forward for more tutorials like this,
Thank you so much I’m so glad I found this! Excellent video! And I’m so impressed that you can get sharp images with one hand shooting! Maybe I need that camera! Love the hand towards the camera!
Thanks Julia for making this video! It's straigh up to the point and no fuss! These tips are invaluable and one thing that I did learn was to be generous with clicking the shutter! How you direct the model is also insightful and will hopefully be able to apply this learning in my work 🙌🏽
I loved the laying down shot with his hand behind his head and the other hand out towards the camera. I have a senior male session coming up and I'd like to give that one a try!
The crossed legs ones are my favorite, the one with the head on the ground/laying down is really cool too. need like special cards to remember these by.
Great video with some nice ideas. I love the way you moved around and turned one pose into many shots. Dan was fun and injected some humour into the video too.
Hey Julia, that is really great! I am having the problem that I am asked to do portraits of families and I would love to see a video about how to do portraits of a group of people. :-)
This video really inspires me to drag my boyfriend in front of my lense. Of course I find him so handsome, but I felt like he’s uncomfortable having his pictures taken, so I try to find failproof poses to boost not only his confidence but also mine as a photographer. Thanks for sharing these tips
I completely understand ❤️ My boyfriend has long curly hair right now that I desperately want to take photos of before he cuts it 😂 he’s inspired by Robert Plant by Zed Zeppelin so here’s to hoping I get some musician shots 😊
Great as always! Another video idea is how to pose men who are ecto vs meso vs endomorph (didn't want to use the other terms). I would say Dan is on the easier side to pose since he's ectomorph. Which is what you would typically see in a model. When you showed the poses of him leaning against the tree with one arm out or sitting on the ground with his arms crossing the triangles are more pronounced whereas an individual with an average build or mesomorph body type, these angles would come across as uncomfortable and sometimes unflattering. Nonetheless I think you inspired many to get out and shoot and maybe others will come up with poses that will work for those other individuals.
Thank you and I'd love to get more people involved in videos like this, it's a little hard to find non-models who are willing to pose for a channel with a large audience, but I will find someone :) Last time I photographed Karol who is very muscular, so I wanted to change it up for this time. I will change it up again for next time 💛
Nooooooo 😂 I loved every pose but that one. What does it even mean? Everyone is doing this lately and why? Blurred distracting object taking away from the subject of the shot. Some shots of this type look like someone is going down with the Titanic and reaching out as if to say, "please help me", before they get sucked under the icy water and drown.
I'd love to see another male photo shoot! I find it so difficult for portraits because they don't usually have long hair to play with or many accessories. I've been binge watching your channel since last week & have learned so much!!!
Yes please, want to see more:) I also have one problem: tall men. You touched upon this challenge in this video, but I'd like to know more tricks. I have a 100% crop and a 35mm prime lens, and it does get tricky with tall men photo shoots
Why are you using such a wide lens? Would not a 50mm or 85mm make more sense? Both from point of view of adding distance between you and subject and also to make the proportions more natural.
Thanks so much! I have a few self portrait videos up on my channel already in case you haven't seen those, but I do have some new ideas that I want to film soon too.
@@juliatrotti tysm! Love your work and the variety you put into your videos! Would you also think about trying out the Sony a9 for a video? It's the camera I'm looking at getting next for both motorsport and portrait photography!
Just in time! I have a branding session swap coming up with a (male) colleague, and I don't really know how to pose solo men. I've done it only once so far (not including classic groom poses). Thanks!
Just curious about where this location is, because I've been trying to find new locations to shoot at in sydney but haven't had a chance due to covid. Thanks.
Love all the poses! I just want to know one thing!!! How do you get such sharp photos shooting live view with the camera moving around so much??? It seems you shoot this way alot! Do you do any sharpening in post production and do you always shoot in Continuous Mode? I just breathe and my photos are blurry-ugh!!!
I thought it is just a camera and a lens, but when I click the Show More I realized that's involved so many accessories and lens also lighting things, damn I am stupid.
Hey Julia, can you tell me how you import Sony raw files into Lightroom ? I tried but it seems I can’t do it. Do I have to convert them to dng? Does that matter?
I'll be sure to pose any models on the ground where there's lots of dangerous looking, spikey tree seeds which, being Australia, are probably poisonous 😂😂 I jest of course! Going to remember the "waiting for the bus with a migraine" pose 😆
Why do you take so many photos if the subject is still? I can understand where it's sports, street, or events photography, but portraits of a guy who it's literally still almost all the time? I don't get it.
"Waiting for the bus with a migraine"... totally using that then next time I ask my husband model a sweater I knit for him! 😂💖
Haha the migraine pose is so versatile - sitting with a migraine, leaning with a migraine, standing with a migraine, the list just keeps going 😂
Yessss more Male posing videos please! 🙏
We will work on it! 😄
Agreed!
@@juliatrotti Wouldn't mind more like these! ❤ 'Waiting for the Taxi' next one maybe? 😄

I love these videos! I’m making an effort to improve my portrait photography, and learning to pose people has been my greatest challenge.
Great video, thanks Julia. I would love to see something similar for men, but based around a more industrial or trade based aesthetic. Pose a plumber, a concreter...a fireman!
The one with glasses on, hand looking another way, and the sunglasses painting another scene was awesome. That is a trick I will use.

From all your videos I have seen, this is the most fun to watch. I loved it. Such great tips for me that I'm starting as a new photographer!
Definitely trying these out with my client this Saturday on my photoshoot! Thanks Julia
Thank you and enjoy your shoot :D
Man those boots look awesome Dan! Mine are still too new and shiny looking. I cant wait to break mine in! Great captures Julia and fantastic location.
Docs are sooo good once they're broken in, the first couple of weeks with them are painful though lol. And thank you so much!

Dan is so dreammmyyy!! I love how he hesitates to take his sunglasses off 🤣🤣
Haha yeah he usually never takes of his sunnies for photos, had to convince him 😅
Thanks for the tips. I love that you're rapid shooting. That's what I do. One time I took 1500 shots in a 4 hour shoot with a guy.
I loved the laying down shot with his hand behind his head and the other hand out towards the camera. I have a senior male session coming up and I'd like to give that one a try!
Solid tips! Just a simple pacing is so effective and the waiting for the bus is gold. haha Thanks!
Thank you Julia awesome tips, that migraine and the lying on the ground with hand stretched out fav
I love the place.... Amazing colours..... But weird to watch autumm in May 😁
The crossed legs ones are my favorite, the one with the head on the ground/laying down is really cool too. need like special cards to remember these by.

Looking good, Dan! Nice work team. 😊
Hey, Julia. Great stuff, love your content. I noticed interesting combinations of ISO and shutter speed... are you using aperture priority here?
I this lense ideal for a family photoshoot as well? Can you recommend or do a video for a family photo session?
Yes I do family shoots mostly on a 35 because it’s great for group shots and moving subjects. I also bring an 85 for some solo shots too

Just download Sony camera raw.
Depend on which camera model you used.. Eg Sony A7iii Camera raw download and install it.
Yeah you might have to download camera raw or just make sure your Lightroom is updated - I've never had to convert my Sony files to DNG to import.
