Barbell Rows To Build A THICK BACK!

  • Lacking thickness from the side? Then you need some barbell rows in your life... let's get after it.
It's funny at several points in my life I've drifted back into ego lifting and pulled way more weight then I should have but even when that happens I still saw progress while when I did this with other lifts the results were dismal. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that if you get your stance down and load that back correctly then even ugly form gets results.
Let me know what video you want next and get f'n after it!

the form tip you mention about the legs on the bent over row makes perfect sense. I realize ive been using bad form on those on account of bending my knees too much. Ive been lifting since my teens and am now 42 years old, although due to years with two slipped discs back exercises bent over like that Ive only been doing the past couple of years since surgery in 05 but just goes to show you never stop learning. thank you

I always do some warm up sets to get the mind muscle connection sharp. And the warm up set are used with the lightest barbell or just my fist clenched with the motion of doing a row.
I pull back till I stretch completely and feel my lats and back muscles.
I keep changing the angle of bend till I hit and feel every muscle in the back starting slightly upright and then fully vertical, and keeping hands close to the body.

One of the challenges with working out alone is accountability to keep focused on the workout. Can get distracted with prepping to get yourself motivated or watching too many ideas for a workout that you run out of time. So many DIY home gym ideas, you can spend time getting everything right and not actually have time to work out (guilty). I watch one of your videos typically to motivate me to just get it done!!

Hey Ryan, would love to see an upper chest targeted vid. Can't get mine to grow and my shoulders are likely jumping in to much, they do make a lot of popping noise, especially on slight incline barbell bench press

    • @nub-cake
      @nub-cake 4 года назад +3

Athlean X has some good upper chest videos and removing shoulder from the movement. Best tips for me were
      1. To really nail that upper chest try reversing the grip with dumbbell incline presses (palms facing toward you).
      2. To remove shoulders from the lift: lighten up the weight and focus on pulling your shoulders down and back and keeping them there while you focus on the chest. It will feel awkward at first but you will get a hell of a connection with the chest and might even feel good. Good luck!

    • @Jack-ik2uv

Get some gymnastics rings. I got a set from Amazon, hooked them up to my daughter's swing set. Work great for inverted rows, with feet up on a toy slide. Can also do wide grip pullups, close grip with both hands on one ring, etc.

    • @runawaytrain9794

Body weight inverted Rows are also the sh*t....and you need to do is to get under a table, grab the edge of it, entire Body straight Head to Toe like a giant erect Penis, and start pulling 3x12 or 4x12. One of the very best upper back ''alternatives'' that don't require any stupid, generally over priced Gymnastics Rings, etc.

The biggest secret in bodybuilding is that there is no secret. We are looking for something which does not exist. Heavy. Light .All is relative. Just enjoy your time in the gym and do not get obsessed. Relax and grow.

Low flexibility, and the fact I smashed a few discs in a dead-lifting accident years ago, kills me I can't seem to build any size.
if I did proper bent over rows, I'd injurer my back again, I"ve injured my back over 20 times in 6 years because of this problem, but Im too stubborn to give up.
I just stick with cables, if I"m feeling well enough I'll throw on a lifting belt and do bent over rows properly, but it's risky, injury plus my lower back tends not to be stay stretched out.
