My rating system! 🥰 5 - still think about it, highly recommend, a must-read for me 4 - a great read and would highly recommend, however it was just missing that 5 star feeling you get when reading a new favourite 3 - solid read, nothing crazy, would still recommend 2 - not for me. I can see why someone else would like it…I just didn’t. 1 - I can’t even see why someone else would like this 😭 Loving the book content, Jess! 🫶
Jess hearing you out, I believe you would love Divine Rivals. It has a lot of letter writing in it, which I know is your love language xD. Also its slow burn and no intensely inappropriate intimate scenes. It is so wholesome!! PS. they also type on typewriters so that fits your older than 90s wish, haha)
I actually bought the book, read the first couple pages, and realized it was NOT for me… reading reviews after made me feel good about not picking it up again!!
i feel like based off of the books you love, you would love divine rivals. it is a romantasy so it will help you dive into fantasy, without being too much! it’s great to dip your toes in. one of my fave reads of 2024! 🤍
This is something I’m also struggling with, so you are not alone! ❤️ I like “The Heart Dive podcast” where they also go through the whole Bible in a year! I‘ve been taking it at my own pace though, quite slowly. Remember, He meets you and loves you where you’re at, and there‘s so much grace, love, and patience ❤️ Wish you all the best!
Also reading for leisure and studying the Bible are two quite different things that require different kinds of cognitive effort and energy. Don’t beat yourself up for taking some time to read for fun! Shame is most usually not a great motivator. For me, letting go of the guilt is often what gives me the motivation to pick up the Bible again.
Same but God has been compelling me to read Acts because I fear that book lol too much going on that is crazy. However, I pray before I begin to read it, (and I don’t commit to how much I’m going to read in that moment, I sometimes read a few verses or other days I’m hooked for a few chapters- no commitment but just surrender to trying) and ask God to calm my fears and to help me understand it to grow closer to Him. That book now is currently like watching an action movie. 🍿 anyways all this to say all glory goes to God with my struggle to read it and get blessed by reading the Bible. Hope that encourages you.
Jess!!! Francine rivers is the queen of the 90s best sellers. The mark of the lion series or redeeming love would be my favourite, no one writes like her, highly recommend!!
If you enjoyed The Selection series and are wanting more fantasy/fairy tale inspired books, I HIGHLY recommend the Lunar Chronicles. I love love LOVE those books, and unlike so many series, each book just gets BETTER 💕
Fourth wing is AMAZING!! But they do get quite spicy. I’d start with Throne of Glass. Such an amazing fantasy and they started out being YA so they start clean and the spice level is only like a 2-3 and it’s towards the end of the series.
Yesss I was going to recommend the same! Especially that a lot of the popular fantasy books such as ACOTAR or fourth wing, although they’re so good, they are spicy and I know Jess prefers closed door books. One Dark Window isn’t spicy but has all the amazing fantasy elements 😍
There's a book called The Gilded Nexus of Prosperity, and it talks about how using some secret techniques you can attract a lot of money, it's not some bullshit law of attraction, it's the real deal
If you want to give historical fiction another chance - my all time favorite is The Lady’s Mine by Francine Rivers! At this point I have read/listened to it at least 10 times (which is crazy), but it’s really immersive!
I think you’d love some Christian fiction too!! 1 - Gabrielle Meyer’s Timeless series is INSANE 🎉 2 - Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers 3 - any of Roseanna White’s books 4 - Courtney Walsh’s My Phony Valentine was amaaaaazing! 5 - Annah Conwell’s Carter Brother series is so great too
The Dance of Thieves duology is one of my favorite fantasy series ever!! It’s only only two books so it’s not like you’re jumping into a super long series just starting out into fantasy. It’s SO good. It’s a no spice fantasy and the romance is SO good. I’m still obsessed with it and think about it all the time. I miss the characters & the world so much & wish I could reread it back for the first time. The world is so cool & I just loved it.
You should read the Six of Crows series! It's so good and I think you would love it because you think you know where the story is going, but then it goes somewhere else completely.
Jess, I want you to know that I have NEVER ever been a reader, but as a fellow fangirl, when you shared about The Bodyguard last year, it made me finally give it a try. I proceeded to read 6 more books last year (5 of which were Katherine Center... I think you'll really love Things to Save in a Fire, What You Wish For, and Happiness for Beginners!). This is seriously SO out of character for me, but it's been really sweet. Thank you for sharing your love for reading... you truly ~influenced~ me in a big way! 💛💛💛
Fourth wing is a great fantasy read, especially since books are still coming out (the 3rd one came out literally 3 days ago), but if you’re wanting to delve into fantasy A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) is a must read! It’s why I fell back in love with reading and I’m currently relistening to it for like the 3rd time! Can’t recommend it highly enough
Hey girly! If you’re not really into spicy books, fourth wing might not be it for you. Its a really Good series, but the spice is definetly there. If you wanna read a Good fantasy book, i’d recommend the throne of glas series! I’ve fallen in love with it so bad. Theres not alot of spice, besides a little bit here and there. Doesn’t star before book three and out- but you can skip it without missing out on the storyline!
I haven't felt motivated to read in a while but this video actually made me want to pick up a book and get as excited about them as you, ty for making this
My debut novel comes out Monday (I’ll Paint You a Sunset Someday) it would be a dream for you to read it! It’s a romance with a science fiction twist to keep you on your toes. Either way, always a fan. Love you!!! 🫶🏼
Love this idea, Jess! I'm a fellow reader but I come from Malaysia. So I have difficulties with kindle and audiobooks (apps or website). It's so frustrating but I'll never stop reading. It's a beautiful escape for me ❤
I love the Selection - it's such a good series. When it comes to dystopian novels and series, I would recommend Crescent City, Throne of Glass, A Court of Thorns and Roses, Blood and Ash, Shatter Me. They are fantasy and/or dystopian series and include romance. They are really good.
Fantasy recommendations I always suggest for people who are looking to explore the genre more would be, Caraval series (one of my all time favs), Fourth Wing, the ACOTAR series, Shatter Me (Dystopian style), Powerless (Hunger Game vibes), The Cruel Prince, and Crowns of Nyaxia series. Hope this helps in any way!
Love this!! Definitely read fourth wing!!! I was wondering if you’d consider doing a hair care routine video, what you do to keep your hair healthy and long it’s so pretty!! :)
So here for your book content! Definitely recommend A Court of Thorns and Roses for a fantasy read. I also highly recommend Daisy Jones and the Six (specifically the audiobook).
We have such similar taste in books! For the ones we have both read, our ratings are similar. I’ve added the rest to my TBR 💗 Thank you for sharing this!
I just finished Part of your world and I loved it!!! I can’t wait to read yours truly. I’m excited to read say you’ll remember me as well coming in April I believe. I haven’t read any fantasy books but I want to read fourth wing!
Funnily enough I just read both Part of your world and Yours Truly because I saw that Jess was reading them and I definitely liked the first one better! The characters in Yours Truly annoyed me so much with their miscommunication, but still very good writing and story! Starting Just for the summer today and very excited to hear it was her favorite in the series.
@isabellapezzato3784 i can see how it could have been annoying, because their whole tension throughout the story was based around their miscommunication 😅 but I thought the build up was so well done (it had me rooting for them) & I just loved Jacob as a character so much!
A Thousand Heartbeats reminded me of The Selection books!!! It was really good and I had read all 3 of The Selection book series prior to A Thousand Heartbeats. I didn’t want this book to end!!!
I got myself Just For The Summer last December and have not been able to finish the book. Just seeing so many people rating it 5 Stars really just makes me wanting to complete the book as soon as I can.... Especially after knowing that you also rate it 5 Stars!💞
Closed door books I love: Reckless Love by Kate Goodwin, The Game She Hates, The Class She Skips by Ella Marie, Cinder Luna by Marie Soleil, How To Plot A Payback and The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson, Skymar Series by Pepper Basham.
Literally yesterday I was thinking that I want to know which books jess would recommend since we have such similar taste and boom here is the videoo... I lovee ittt
I read the bodyguard because if you and loved it!! Highly recommend Fourth Wing and the A Court of Thorns and Roses series (they’re not closed door but I just skip those parts)
This made me so happy! Now that I’m out of college I have more time to read, so this was perfect timing! Praying for y’all and I love y’all so much! ❤️❤️
The Throne of Glass series is a great mix of fantasy, action, and complex world-building. It has romance but isn’t too spicy- definitely more plot than romance which is my personal fav! This series was my intro to fantasy genre, and it does a good job of easing you into that world without overloading you. I also LOVE The Selection, it’s been one of my favorite series for years!💛
I thought this was the More Jess channel for a second 😂 Absolutely love all your book content on there! Would you nah e be able to make a ‘read with me’ style video with non spoilers? I love watching those types of videos :)
I was so excited to watch this!! I've taken a lot of book recommendations from you this year and after I had my baby in February, I just devoured audio books lol. I read all of Katherine Center's books this year, and loved them all so much! Also loved Abby Jimenez! I just read a dystopian that you might love called The Grace Year, it's not a series though. It surprised me a lot with many twists, it was really good! Also I read both of those books by Ashley Poston, and another called Geekarella, but that one did not have a magical aspect, just so you know not all of her books do! Thank you for sharing, Jess 🥰
ahhhh i love all the lisa jewel here!!! she's my favourite author at the moment 🤗I personally loved the family upstairs, and a few days ago actually finished the prequel called the family remains which was fantastic in tying up loose ends. I hope none of this is true has a second book coming up one day too. thanks for all the book inspo, have definitely been taking note x
Jess! I would really recommend looking up Autumn Kern’s RUclips channel The Commonplace. It’s mainly about Classical/Charlotte Mason homeschooling, but she has a great video series where she recommends books for mums. Really quality literature :) A book I LOVE that she recommended was “The Awakening of Miss Prim”. It’s a really easy read but a cute and fun storyline! I also loved “Piranesi” A bit different to the romance-y books, but having some variety really enriched my reading life! (Autumn also has great resources on planning your “literary life”). I like the advice of always having a non-fiction, a “harder” fiction (like a classic), a fun fiction (eg romance) and a theological book going at the same time :)
Love The selection series! As a fellow Aussie I recommend Lynette Noni books if you haven’t read! They’re more YA but so easy to read and the author is from the sunny coast
Hi Jess fellow book lover here! In terms of fantasy books, I read this series when I was in high school (I’m 29 now) but I remember loving it, it’s the Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare
I highly recommended Caraval by Stephanie Garber. Its whimsical fantasy with a touch of romance with little to no spice. The vibes of the series are amazing
For fantasy I recommend Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross! Her writing is incredible! Or The Kiss of Deception by Mary E Pearson would be another great next step after The Selection!
I also LOVED the selection series. I listened to the whole follow up series “The Heir” through my library and enjoyed it too! I cannot recommend picking up Throne of Glass enough!!! It is an incredible fantasy series, I just finished the first two books and am HOOKED!
We have similar taste! Yes to Fourth Wing!! As a beginner fantasy reader, I also suggest Divine Rivals Duology. Beautiful writing and clean. Cold hearted by Leia Stone is a fun, easy read that reminded me of Ella Enchanted vibes. A Curse so dark and lonely is a Beauty and the beast retelling. I wouldn’t rec Six of crows for beginner. I felt it was really hard to understand. If you loved The Seven Year skip you should read The Unmaking of June farrow! It’s a mystery w magical realism.
Hi Jess, if you you like to dive more into the fantasy books. There's a series that got me hooked onto Fantasy books. It's called 'A Court of Thorns and Roses' there's 5 books in the series. You can start on the first book and see if you like it. I quite enjoyed it was kind of like beauty and the beast. I am currently reading and almost finished Iron Flame which is the second book of 'Fourth Wings' series.
Correct me if I’m wrong but did she stop posting on her other channel cuz usually the book stuff goes on there right ?! It doesn’t matter to me , I was just curious
I had been waiting for this video!! Will for sure give a try to your recommendations. For myself, 2024 was the year of fantasy/romance/magic books, I started with Fourth Wing but the series is not done yet, it does have some spice btw. I LOVED the ACOTAR series, it genuinely changed my live (it has some spice, specially the last book), now I'm reading the Throne of Glass series and OMG this might be the best series I've ever read. I'm in the 4th book and no spice yet but the story is exquisite. The Caraval series is also good, it has some mistery and so far no spice. Can't wait for your next book recs!! 💛
I was about to recommend the Paris apartment when you were doing your the guest list review and then it popped up lol! I had read the guest list first and I felt very similar to how you felt about it, I liked the Paris apartment a lot more! Love book videos so much!
Love these videos, Jess!! I definitely recommend Spark of the Everflame (the Kindred’s Curse Saga) - the perfect Romantasy with heaps of mystery, enemies to lovers, a feisty fmc and a goood slow burn!! 🔥
If I have to recommend some of my fav books 🧡 For Romance : 1) Flipped 2) 10 Blind dates 3) The mechanical Romance (Nerd romance) 4) Two can play by Ali Hazelwood (Audiobook version) For Mystery / Thriller : 1) Tell me your dreams by Sidney Sheldon 2) The graveyard book (specifically in audiobook version) For Horror : 1) The Amityville Horror 2) The City of Ghosts Series by V.E Schwab For Dystopia : 1) Fahrenheit 451 2) 1984 by George Orwell For Sci-fi / dystopia : 1) The Last Astronaut (really different than other hyped up sci-fi books) 2) Foundation Series by Isaac Asimov (Have to read yet but I already know will be really good)
Jess if you liked the Selection series, you should look into it because there are many more books in it! (if i remember correctly the main couple changes but it's the same people and world and characters)
I love the selection series. I'm currently reading the cursed kingdom chronicles. Its like a distopian but in a more fairy tale kind of way. I think you might like this too
I just finished The Only One Left by Riley sager and it was so good! I also am big fan of Lisa jewell and I think you’d also really enjoy this book. They share similar vibes
It’s so funny how we all have different tastes in books! The bodyguard was one of my least favourite books of the year. I love hearing about others faves though!
If anyone is looking for a book series recommendation, I highly recommend the "Throne of Glass" series. There are 8 books in total, and it is amazing! Super engaging, and it’s hard to put it down!
I also LOVED the Part of Your World trilogy! I also recommend Abby’s The Friend Zone series and the War of Lost Hearts trilogy by Carissa Broadbent. The romance in that trilogy is so sweet and genuine, but the fantasy and plot is top tier!
I would highly recommend the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer for another dystopian fantasy romance series! I read it around the same time that I read The Selection series and I love them both so much. The Lunar Chronicles has four books in the series, and additional books if you want to learn more about the side characters. The first book is called Cinder and follows the life of an orphan girl who lives with her step mother and step sisters… and is a cyborg! She is a dystopian version of the fairy tale Cinderella, and the first book introduces you to her and her story. Each book in the series highlights a different fairy tale princess translated into dystopian fiction, and their stores come together in a remarkable way. I couldn’t put them down! I could not recommend the Lunar Chronicles enough.
I LOVED the Selection series! Game changer - read it while listening to The Princess and the Matchmaker soundtrack by Kim Dongki. So good! These books gave me the nostalgic rom-com feels you’re after: - Better Than the Movies by Lynn Painter - When in Rome by Sarah Adams - The Match by Sarah Adams All were either 4.5 or 5 stars for me 🌟🫶🏼
I also loved The Selection series!! I'd recommend Dance of Thieves (the duology). It's a YA fantasy/romance and really good. Great balance of romance and world-building. I finished them so quickly!!
YYEEEEESSSSSSS! I love all of your content, but I get so excited for your book content! I’m so excited for this! 😁👏🏻
I loveeee the booktube content
My rating system! 🥰
5 - still think about it, highly recommend, a must-read for me
4 - a great read and would highly recommend, however it was just missing that 5 star feeling you get when reading a new favourite
3 - solid read, nothing crazy, would still recommend
2 - not for me. I can see why someone else would like it…I just didn’t.
1 - I can’t even see why someone else would like this 😭
Loving the book content, Jess! 🫶
You captured my system into words and I‘m so thankful!!
i agree with 1 star. Im like, did we read the same book ?
I love this!
Finally someone who understands DNFing Ice Breaker. I am so glad you found others you enjoyed. Here’s to another great reading year!
I actually bought the book, read the first couple pages, and realized it was NOT for me… reading reviews after made me feel good about not picking it up again!!
Jess, I've been a fan for several years, I hope you know, you bring comfort through kindness ❤
This is beautiful ❤
i feel like based off of the books you love, you would love divine rivals. it is a romantasy so it will help you dive into fantasy, without being too much! it’s great to dip your toes in. one of my fave reads of 2024! 🤍
Still feel guilty that I'm not reading my Bible instead-- struggling to even do that most days!
@@HowlinHillsLaKyra Hey girl you’re not alone!! God’s got you ❤️ Also I highly recommend the Bible in a Year podcast from Fr Mike Schmitz! :)
This is something I’m also struggling with, so you are not alone! ❤️ I like “The Heart Dive podcast” where they also go through the whole Bible in a year! I‘ve been taking it at my own pace though, quite slowly.

Jess!!! Francine rivers is the queen of the 90s best sellers. The mark of the lion series or redeeming love would be my favourite, no one writes like her, highly recommend!!
I love her books! The Lady's Mine and The Masterpiece are also great books by her!
@@blythe9yes! Those two are my favorite of hers
I read Redeeming Love in three days!!!! It was incredible 😭
@@blythe9 I’ve never read the lady’s mine !! I’ll have to put it on my tbr:)

OMG book content is what I didn't know I needed from Jess until now
If you want to give historical fiction another chance - my all time favorite is The Lady’s Mine by Francine Rivers! At this point I have read/listened to it at least 10 times (which is crazy), but it’s really immersive!
other honorable mention is Bridge to Haven set in the 1950s!
I think you’d love some Christian fiction too!!

3 - any of Roseanna White’s books
4 - Courtney Walsh’s My Phony Valentine was amaaaaazing!

Yeahh just make 3 into 2, and 3.5 into 3 😆

I read all of Katherine Center's books this year, and loved them all so much! Also loved Abby Jimenez! I just read a dystopian that you might love called The Grace Year, it's not a series though. It surprised me a lot with many twists, it was really good! Also I read both of those books by Ashley Poston, and another called Geekarella, but that one did not have a magical aspect, just so you know not all of her books do! Thank you for sharing, Jess 🥰
I’m so glad you’re back , Jess!! I missed you! happy new year!!! I hope you this year is amazing for you!!❤️🫶🏻
I was thinking about you today! Hoping you’re well ❤ & Thank you for the book content - i love everything Jess & books 📚🥰
ahhhh i love all the lisa jewel here!!! she's my favourite author at the moment 🤗I personally loved the family upstairs, and a few days ago actually finished the prequel called the family remains which was fantastic in tying up loose ends.
Really quality literature :)
A book I LOVE that she recommended was “The Awakening of Miss Prim”. It’s a really easy read but a cute and fun storyline!
I also loved “Piranesi”
A bit different to the romance-y books, but having some variety really enriched my reading life!
They’re more YA but so easy to read and the author is from the sunny coast
i just love your book recommendations and your book videos ❤❤
Happy New Year Jess... Never too late, we're only in the 1st month of the new year xD ✌🏻
Would you ever do a book club? Love this channel 😊
I would totally be in on that!
Jess, I’ve missed you! So good to see your face 🤏🏻🫶🏻
YAYYY Jess on booktok!! 📖🤍 love your vids so much
Hi Jess fellow book lover here! In terms of fantasy books, I read this series when I was in high school (I’m 29 now) but I remember loving it, it’s the Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare
She’s back with the book videos!!!!
I'm not sure, but I was wondering the same thing.
I LOVED Just for the summer! One of my top books of 2024 for sure ❤
I'm glad you also read the Paris apartment! I was gonna say I liked it better than the guest list!
If I have to recommend some of my fav books 🧡
For Romance : 1) Flipped
2) 10 Blind dates
3) The mechanical Romance (Nerd romance)
4) Two can play by Ali Hazelwood (Audiobook version)
For Mystery / Thriller : 1) Tell me your dreams by Sidney Sheldon
2) The graveyard book (specifically in audiobook version)
For Horror : 1) The Amityville Horror
2) The City of Ghosts Series by V.E Schwab
For Dystopia : 1) Fahrenheit 451
2) 1984 by George Orwell
For Sci-fi / dystopia : 1) The Last Astronaut (really different than other hyped up sci-fi books)
2) Foundation Series by Isaac Asimov (Have to read yet but I already know will be really good)
If you loved the Selection books you should try the Matched series! They sound like similar plots and the Matched series were so good!
Highly recommend the Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld! My favorite dystopian series.
I recommend the Dance of Thieves! It was so good! It's one of those books that you really picture it as a movie!
It’s so funny how we all have different tastes in books! The bodyguard was one of my least favourite books of the year. I love hearing about others faves though!
I think you will really love “Red Queen” for that dystopian feeling! Its kinda long but so worthy
This was awesome ! I’m getting back into reading and I added some to my list
So good!
These books gave me the nostalgic rom-com feels you’re after:
- Better Than the Movies by Lynn Painter
- When in Rome by Sarah Adams
- The Match by Sarah Adams
All were either 4.5 or 5 stars for me 🌟🫶🏼
I also loved The Selection series!! I'd recommend Dance of Thieves (the duology). It's a YA fantasy/romance and really good. Great balance of romance and world-building. I finished them so quickly!!
