    Hey cowboy, you need to take a chill pill. I live in Philly. As you know, I95 and 76 are the 2 major arteries around here. Over the last year or so, we've encountered some problems that has snarled traffic. The first incident was caused by a tanker driver driving way too fast and crashing under an overpass. This shut down traffic in both directions for a while and greatly interrupted traffic flow on all other roads for a long time until the reconstruction of a new overpass was complete. Then, we had a trucker who drove a 15ft load under a 14ft bridge. Do the math. He didn't make it and once again traffic snarled all over the place for about a week until the overpass could be rebuilt. Then a high-speed trucker hit a guard rail on I95 while traveling in the left lane and caught fire after coming to rest across I95. This screwed things up again for a couple of days. Stop dumping on the city of Philadelphia and the "damn cop" who was blocking traffic. You act like the cop was sitting there eating his lunch. He was doing his job. The way you acted in this video, between worrying about your clock and taking a shower, you should get out from behind that big wheel and start driving for Uber.

    You’re way off on the 76w to 81 if you wanted Elkton Md. GPS was correct, 76E to 291 to Platt Bridge to 95s .

      Elkton was my plan A, which included going down 95s. 76w was plan B I came up with on the fly when I discovered 95S was blocked. I didn't have a plan C. I was just boned at that point.

    Actually your GPS was accurate when it told you to turn around. The fastest and truck route was 95s not 81. That would have taking you out and around. If you had turned around you would have hit Maryland in 40 pushing it a little. Sorry for your melt down. But get it together driver!

    I’m sorry but why in god’s name would you drive west 126mi in the wrong direction to get to Interstate 81, when Elkton is 51mi south on Interstate 95??? Please get a Atlas so you have a clue. If the 95 entrance was blocked you should’ve just punched in reroute for the next 95S entrance.

      Most of those Ports do not allow your overnight parking, Unless you could find somewhere on front street, philly is difficult to find Overnight parking.

      Unfortunately the cops had access to 95 blocked off and neither GPS had figured that out. So I doubt I could have gotten there either. When I left the shipper I had no reason to believe I couldn't make it to Elkton, MD.

    Just found your channel... I love that you kept your frustration in the video, it's real!
    I cut my teeth driving in the Northeast as a new CDL holder some time ago. Best advice I can give as much as possible, drive through the area at night. Have a commercial vehicle Atlas, sadly 76 in and around Philly is a nightmare - especially that time of day. If you were where I think you were could've shot up notth 95 to the Betsy Ross Br. Get into Jersey and take 295 down. Sounds like your company does a ton of Northeast freight, I'd highly recommend the Atlas.
    Stay safe and I enjoy the videos.

    • @TouchingGrassOTR
      @TouchingGrassOTR  2 месяца назад

      I have an Atlas, although I don't think it would have solved the problem this day, because a paper map can't show traffic flareups or temporary road closures, which I think caused the bulk of my problems. And although it will show which roads are legal for trucks, it (like TP) doesn't really show which roads are actually useful to trucks. I have learned to mostly navigate at night in the NE, but this was unfortunately a pickup my dispatcher gave me that necessitated going into the city during the middle of the day. If it hadn't been for the closure of I-95, I'd have had plenty of time to get out. But I got stuck trying unsuccessfully to find an alternative.

    • @thets2402
      @thets2402 2 месяца назад

      @@TouchingGrassOTR you're obviously a pretty smart guy, so I'm not going to tell you how using the atlas and having a route the gps won't put you on would be a benefit. But ironically enough, it was that same city and a road closure that caused me to come up with a plan B exit strategy.
      Our clocks allow for very little margins for error.

    Schuylkill Expressway is usually always jammed. If you can, sometimes you're better off taking the Blue Route ( I-476 section between 95 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike)

  • @user-wx2sn6fv1d
    @user-wx2sn6fv1d 2 месяца назад +9

    Do you carry a Road Atlas? You could have easily parked by the terminals. As long as your with your truck they won’t bother you. You can park near stadiums & old produce center also. I live in that area and I park my truck in that area when I come home. Get yourself a Garmin GPS.

    • @TouchingGrassOTR
      @TouchingGrassOTR  2 месяца назад +1

      I do have an Atlas, but I don't think it would've helped in this situation, since it can't show road closures and traffic flareups, which were the bulk of my troubles. Also, like truckerpath, it can show which roads are legal, but not which roads are actually big enough to go down. And unfortunately, when I was in the thick of it, there really wasn't any place I could pull off to the side to look at it.
      As for parking in the city, yeah, I unfortunately don't know Philly well enough to know where the safe places are that I could park for the night.
      I had a Rand McNally GPS for a long time. It finally died late last year and I just haven't replaced it since 99% of the time, TruckerPath works just as good (even better sometimes). I might try a Garmin once I get back from vacation.

      Simply looking at your google maps would show you that I-76 the schuylkill expressway doesn’t connect with 81 it ends at the turnpike. This meltdown could have been avoided if you just looked at your maps plain and simple.

      Well, in my experience, the big training companies will generally avoid these areas. I never had to come into the middle of the city when I was at Covenant, Crete, or Roehl. They want you to get good before they send you to the toughest spots.
      As for balancing your clock, the best advice I can offer you is this: Don't try to use up every last minute of your available hours. I see way too many trucks just sitting on the side of the highway because the drivers ran themselves out of time. Plan your final stop for the day to leave about an hour on your clock, that way you have time to look for alternatives.
