    As a 62 year old. I saw racism and even as a young man , I never understood it. How can Love be a bad thing. Love is in short supply to these days. ... Love you all.

    Having been there in 1973, and having also been in a family with some interracial relationships, I can tell you it was different. Having said that, ultimately those people were accepted as a part of the family, at least where I come from. This song still sounds good.

    It is a great groove I love to this day…..this was a very POWERFUL message…. And I agree with your assessment….Love is Love no matter who it is! And every one should date who they want..the Media is NOT your Judge or your friend!!! Love is Color Blind 💯❤️🙏🏻🙏🏿❤️

    I remember as a teenager when this song came out. I was groovin' to the tune and lovin' it. The lyrics told a story unlike most songs out there. And it made people think about racism and prejudice. It had a lot of soulful thinking in it. The song was so popular (It went to #1).

    I was 18 in '73...loved this song and the sound production of it. It made me think of "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" and Spencer Tracy's speech pointing out the importance of following your heart where love's concerned and not bending to the prejudices of others.

    I was 12 years old when this was released and I absolutely loved it. As an old guy I used to watch the Midnight Special back in the day as well. There is a live version of this track from the Midnight Special that is really good as well. This version somebody dubbed the album version over the live version which I never understand why they do that. Anyway thank you for your wonderful review.

    You have to consider it was 1973. People were singing about this to raise awareness about the fact that it should never be an issue. If you love someone, that should be the only thing that matters. The same God that created me also created people who look nothing like me. He didn't make any mistakes.

    This song came out in the early 70's. Times were different then. I married a woman of color in 1984. We still had to struggle with Idiots that everytime they opened their mouths, they showed their Ignorance! We have now been married 39 years, have 3 adult children, and 4 Grandkids. Our children are whiter than me! We taught them to like all Races, and not to diss their Mom which They never did. When they were little, and even now, Leticia got so wild looks when these white children would hug and kiss her, cause her mocha color didn't fit into their thought process! Don't care, I Love her with my life! She's my Nubian Queen, my family welcomed her with open arms! Here's to another 39 years!♥️✌️

    Angela, I feel your pain. This lyrics of this song addresses the issue of interracial relationships with blunt force trauma; almost continuing the problem by making it such a big deal. Thank you for interpreting the song in a way that shows we have come a long way since 1973. Not just in regard to race but also regarding orientation and gender. Yes we have more improvement to make but in 1973 the idea of gay marriage was a distant dream and now we have achieved it. The growing acceptance of gender as non-binary is also wonderful to see.

    Heard this song a in 1973. I was in high school. I remember thinking well duh, of course, glad we are past the racist bs, and I discounted this song as being “obvious”. Boy was I in a bubble.
    On the whole I think much progress has been made, but progress typically is uneven, and now via social media outrageous and divisive stuff gets amplified.

My best friend in High School was black and we both experienced the racism going from his side of the town to mine. People still can't let it go today and it saddens me so much. Not the future I envisioned.

    The way people react is more a reflection of them and not coming to terms with subjects that make them uncomfortable, so instead of grappling with it, they do the easier thing of "othering" and falsely elevating themselves as morally superior.

    Yes there are still issues with interacial relationships but we should really celebrate the progress that has been made and allow the progression to keep going naturally. I think when people get too up in arms over those that still haven't come around, we end up unintentionally slowing down the process. As MLK said, “Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

    • @gabrielmcdonnell8699
      @gabrielmcdonnell8699 10 месяцев назад +1

      Yup but “those that still haven’t come around” _STILL WIELD A LOT OF POWER IN 2023_ They pass the hate on to their kids, they elect ppl who hate marginalized communities...

    • @sharkmedia5969
      @sharkmedia5969 10 месяцев назад

      No buts! Any power they have only comes when you put things in their hands instead of taking personal responsibility. If you are fortunate enough to understand that those of other races are your brothers and sisters and not your enemy, then you have a responsibility to spread that love to those who haven't come around. The government can't make someone love and respect other people. We love because God loved us first. Those who hate will never love unless we show them love first.
