hate to see another clairen lose but the character doesn't seem to be as gimped as people say
As someone who has played this version of the game, she's definitely not gimped. The issue is, pretty much everything she HAD in Rivals 1 is gone, but her new tools are far-better suited to the new mechanics of this game
Main changes I've found, as a Clairen main:
1: No command grab, replaced instead by a charged attack that helps with recovery, tech coverage, and ledge pressure
2. No floorbounce on DAir- You can no longer loop tipper DAir into tipper DAir on missed tech anymore. I didn't realize how big of a change this was, at first, but it's a pretty big difference from on-stage combos in Rivals 1. Instead, Tipper DAir leads directly into grab, which can then lead into chain grabs or special pummel setups- Very powerful, but will take time to practice.
3. Tipper feels more precise. There's no practice mode in the game, yet, and no way to look at hitboxes, but it definitely feels like the tipper is harder to hit, and the stun doesn't feel as long. More testing required.
4. Her USpecial doesn't go as high, but was given a lot more forward momentum- I can't confirm this for certain, because recovery feels just like normal, but I noticed I struggle way more to land a killing blow off the top when using USpecial. Once again, more testing required.

Her specials are pretty situational so it's hard to know when to use them especially against a brand new character in a new engine. Her neutral special seems more widely applicable but it's brand new. Usually you stick to what you know when you're in a pressure situation like a tournament.
Her normals are already so good at screen control, and the stun so threatening, that her having weaker specials makes sense from a balance perspective. But im just speculating.

Counter is the only one that he should've been using more IMO. Not tons, just more. Neutral was replaced and idk how it is now. Shield break that seems meh. Side B also is usable, but you kinda need to ledge cancel it to really take advantage due to shields being in the game now.

It would not have worked, lox had double jump, down B, up B, and airdodge still available
@@Chr1sT0fu nah it def would've connected because lox was still in hitstun when clairen was in the right position for the second dair. It probably wouldn't have killed outright but it would for sure would be too low to recover for lox, clairen gets back to ledge faster so she just ledgehogs. And no walls because of air armada removes any recovery mix ups with wall jump and forces lox to recover linearly to ledge.

As a smasher, rivals 2 look very cool. I was not a big fan of roa but the change in the mecanich make it look like the game is clooser to what i like in smash.

What’s Loxodont’s gimmick?
Most of Loxodont's Specials + Down Tilt place lava on the ground. Once it flares up, he can stand on it to gain up to 3 stacks of a buff. 1 stack of the buff can be spent to make Loxo's Smash Attacks hit multiple times and last longer, or all your current stacks can be spent at once to create an explosion with his Get-Up Special or Down Special that increases in power (and travel distance for the latter) the more stacks you have.
i have a feeling i know the answer, but how are people playing rivals 2 right now? kickstarter exclusive i assume?
I just discovered this game and im no pro, but Lox's move where he slides forward looking for a command grab just looks awful, almost never hits, and when it does, the enemies tech out of the follow up every time

No the game isnt out, this was a special event at Genesis X, where people got to compete in an early build of the game.
Someone did manage to get ahold of this pre-alpha release though. XD

What even is Clairen's new neutral special? Just a fancier grab?
From what I've seen in former trailer, her new neutral special is a chargeable slash, that at full charge (like you'll ever land that outside of niche edgeguard scenarios) looks to go across the whole stage and stuns! Think Roy's neutral b, but it gets huge, and tippers! So she basically got a new tool in exchange for no more air-grab shenanigans

I’m pretty much a nub at this game but don’t clairen’s attacks seem stubby? Like it feels like loxodont had just as much range as she did during this match.

This game is looking amazing though, love the celshading, and the shield, specially, looks much better than Smash (how didn't they update the visuals since the N64? FFS Nintendo). If this game plays as good as it looks, and without the busted DLCs of Ultimate, it could be a real Smash killer imao

Rivals 2 (Rivals of aether 2), it's currently in development, but set to release later this year.
I generally like pixel art, but the old game looked... kinda bad, for me. Like I played Tibia, and that managed to look better than Rivals 1, like it just looked weird. Maybe platform fighters just don't work that well with pixel art (Brawhalla also looks off to me, though not as bad as Rivals 1)
Nah pixel art was great the character sprites were just dated lol

@raven-a When Rivals was first released, it was still made by a small group of people, unlike how it is now. It was fine for the time, but there has been a clear increase in quality since then. Eliana and Sylvanos are clear examples comparing their sprites to characters like Wrastor or Maypul. It's clear that the Aether team wants to increase the quality of the art, but you can't really do that with character sprites, as that could lead to disrupting the balance of the game. Needing to adjust hitboxes and all that to accommodate those new sprites. Pretty sure thats why they updated of lot of the visuals in the first game overtime, except for the character sprites themselves. They seem to REALLY be embracing this transition to 3d cause holy hell, have these characters never looked better. I'm excited to see who else they are bringing back and who the workshop winner will be (praying for my boy, Helios 🙏)
hard disagree. rivals sprites are simplistic by design but they're very well animated and distinct from one another, it makes the game very readable since you can take a quick glance at a character and immediately know what move they're doing
as for quality... well it's subjective, but for me i think the quality of sprites in rivals is really good. not consistent, since older characters like absa and maypul are pretty off-model and have slightly blander colors, but for the most part i'd say it's far from bad. the backgrounds and stages in particular look awesome

workshop for rivals is the only reson i played it so much. dont think ima buy this game with it not having worshop. Games gonna get stale for me super fast. Workshop alowed me to play as some of my favorite characters from other games. Such a shame

Kinda really don't like these commentators ngl. feels very unnatural and like they're too focused on trying to cram wordplay into a fast paced game instead of speaking their thoughts about the match up, use of techniques, etc.
Agreed. I was literally coming down here to comment how grating it was listening to the commentators. 90 percent was just make a dumb joke about the stage or overreacting to mundane things. If anti started one more sentence with Yeah, I mean... I was just going to mute the video lol
