Creator of TASS here. we’ve been hard at work and we appericate the patience for all of you platform fighters fans out there. We have big plans for this and we hope you will all stick around and watch us make something epic
Thank you for including Spiritfall in the video and for the kind words! We're a small team, so releasing monthly updates is not easy 😅 It feels great to have our hard work appreciated ❤
To start off I've never played spirit fall but it seems really great for the sole fact that the developers commented on a video. It's really cool to be whenever a team does that and it really shows the respect they have for the public. You guys are great and i hope to be able to support your project by buying it
2021: This year will be the year of platform fighter 2022: No wait this year will be 2023: No wait I wasn't ready actually this year will 2024: Shit uhh this year will be the year guys!! Promise!!
I'm so ready for this year. Roa2, Fraymakers, Multiversus and Combo Devils are looking to be awesome. Let's just hope we don't get platform fight cursed again.
Thank you so much for this video! I made an era of platform fighters video last year, and I’m so glad to see others give love to the genre that’ll always have my heart!
@@theclaudfather6436please shut up Nintendo dick rider, opinions exist and I think rivals of aether is way more fun than ult, the world doesn't revolve around you
Very good platform fighters you mentioned! I will also make my own platform fighter called "Animated Battle Superstars" as soon as I have enough money for paying royalties and hiring people for programming, coding and more. Great video and keep up the good work!
This is the year to throw hands I play platform fighters for living and some other games here and there I’m not a pro player or anything. I’m averaging video games and I have love for them. Great video fantastic hopefully we can meet on the battlefield on any of these platform fighters.
First of all, love the Sentinels inc mention!! Very excited to see that game hit markets whenever it does Another platform fighter I saw that I think is gonna be cool (planned release date is 2025 tho) is that touhou platform fighter "Fractured Transience" that was announced on twitter a bit ago Also (idk how much it counts) but another rougelite I've seen is Blazblue Entropy Effect which is getting a full release Jan 31st. Kinda has the platform fighter feel but idk if people would say its toeing the line or not Idk how flash parties development is going but I wouldnt be surprised if a new update or something big came out for that game a bit later
greetings from September 2024, there's a plat-fighter with a side of 40-player-Battle-Royale in development as of now called "Byte Breakers", I've played a round once in the ongoing playtests and it looks awesome
I'm all in on Multiversus, and hope it does extremely well. Its a game that'll eventually be able to add anyone from anything as the devs said, and that's just way too awesome to pass up. Platfighters are awesome and the more the merrier. I just wanna play one that isn't Smash or Brawlhalla, as I'm low-key getting bored with Smash just in general. And Brawlhalla is fun, just not for me.
I have heard of sentinels inc. And i am really surprised that it has a tag-team mode unlike the other platform fighting games. I have always been thinking since traditional fighting games can tag-team so can platform fighting games, and this makes it came true and i hope it comes out well someday.
@@Cowabunger Okay so I looked into it and I have to say it's really well done. The details, gameplays, mechanics, animations, and tag teams. It reminded me of fraymakers, rush down revolt, and combo devils. Hope this game gets some notice. And other platform fighting games.
This year does seem full of promising releases, I need to check my list again but I think you got most of the highlights. I don't actually mind if there is a small player base if the game feels fun even if it's solo or with just one other person, so the single player roguelites - Recursor and Spiritfall - (though I hesitate to count them generally) may be a good match besides Rivals 2 and Combo Devils. I hope the people who liked Multiversus are happy with the full release but I don't think I'll be there for it. Even if the systems improve, it is a F2P game which is almost obligated to be both ethereal with constant updates and likely to be taken away but even worse, guaranteed to not prioritise content variety like what every Smash title has.
definitely a lot of platform fighters this year. And last year had basically the biggest 2D fighters and biggest fighting games in general if u include tekken (yes it came out this year, but basically last year lol). fighting games are definitely in some sort of renaissance right now
I'm excited in general, there's so much innovation going on, I hope some of these get the attention of sakurai when they come out, I remember reading an article of him acknowledging the hazards option in playstation all stars game, and saying he would never do that....years later he did, I wonder how many things he could do for a next entry, I just wish more companies tried to get into the genre and put rollback netcode there too! To force Nintendo to evolve in a few ways at least, rollback would be enough innovation for the next entry, although I think we should try mini games with the already inside mechanics, like brawlhalla does, or the melee mods do, let's see what happens this year, I think that project L Is gonna affect every fighting game moving forward
I’m still very excited to see Toon All Star Slam, and maybe even Combo Devils as well, and many more of them lol Also this barely feels like a platfighter news-ish video lol
Knowing Nickelodeon games from GameMill, early development has already started on NASB3 alongside the NASB2 DLC. And yeah, hopefully, some assets from 2 can be reused in 3 to make things go smoother because a lot of what we have now is good as is.
Looking forward to that Rivals 2 summer beta to get a real feel for it. Lots of Smash, Rivals 1 and other platformer fgc's have been saying it has legs and I hope for a strong casual scene as well
It's already garnered a lot of attention, with the additional mechanics and more 'Smash centric' Att. < Shield < Grab familiarity. Would be great to help Aether Studios with more sales and to having that boost in early online would be great to feel out.
In order to have a shot at carving a place in the genre, a new game has to be fun AND “fundamentally change the rules” of the existing space. From there you need to be able to “capture the whole friend group” to really build staying power around the novel play experience. “Doing Melee but better” will not cut it. The game ends up being “IP novelty” then it washes out. Through this lens, it’s not clear to me if any of these will last. Rivals 2 seems to have the most community interest, but unclear if it changes the Melee established rules enough. Combo Devils SEEMS to change the rules, but it’s unclear if it will do so in a fun way and if it has the marketing/community backing to “get the whole friend group”. Platform fighters with rogue like elements does seem different… another space to keep an eye on if a fun PvP play loop can be found.
Another thing to keep in mind is that nintendo is nearing the announcement of a new console, given the track record i dont think its far fetched that they will make a new smash bros or atleast make a port of ultimate
Melee and Rivals of Aether are the only platformers that have held my interest for a significant amount of time(Ultimate could have at the beginning if the online wasn't such trash) so I'm really looking forward to Rivals 2. I highly regret buying NASB 2 and will definitely not be spending $25 on 4 characters. I don't expect much from the others, but I wouldn't mind being pleasantly surprised.
oh i was wondering why this tab was still open, it seems that i did not submit the comment i typed out... uhh long story short, this is exactly what i was thinking lol
The only thing i want is a consistent rival to smash, i know there is no way that a indie plataform fighter sell more than smash, if it have a real player base, at least it make a competence for competitive smash, an alternative
I am just sick of smash fans making fun of amazing games like rivals of aether for being somewhat similar, you guys should actually give these games a shot instead of being deluded by smash bros and thinking its objectively better than the others
I don't have much faith in multiversus. They've done a lot of risky things like making an ambitious crossover fighter as their first game, refusing to give people refunds when they shut the game down for this year, and releasing their game right around when warner was in hot water surrounding the tax write-offs, the discovery buyout and numerous classic cartoons getting removed from max (that's still ongoing btw), and even the massive player count drop. True fans of this game better hope they make the final release different from the beta in some big ways
Really the only good thing is rivals 2 this year. Unfortunately Nasb2 was a mayor dissapointment, gameplay is awesome but the game just have way too many bugs that breick some characters so its hard to take it seriously.
Like these guys are happy these companies are taking their money the first time, then crowdfunding a 2nd game even though people already paid for the first unfinished one. Combo devils look cool though.

I feel like Rivals Workshop should get a shout out since there are a ton of great character designs happening there. Recursor looks so cool

I cannot wait for Combo Devils! Devs are super chill and the game looks incredible

It took 20 years but I'm so glad the kids who grew up on Smash Bros have been making games to rival their inspirations. Can't wait
None of these games come close to rivaling Smash. Don’t fool yourself.

Rivals 2 definitely looks the most promising. Can't wait for its release.

There's a platfighter called blindsight that also has tag mechanics and it is pretty fun. Look into it.

Another platform fighter which looks promising is touhou fractured transience, it's supposed to come out 2025, the sprite art is gorgeous

I do hope this is the case. NASB2 is great mechanically and visually, it just needs more characters
