    I have made coffee with the reusable pods for 4 years. I grind coffee in grinding container. I use unbleached filters. Mine have lasted a long time. I put up 8 pods at a time. I run them through dishwasher. Works for me. Big money savings. I went to a thrift store and purchased a very old version for $2. It works. I use the grinds, as well as all organic waste, as fertilizer for my veggies.

    Leave the pod sit in the sink for a few minutes, the grounds dump right out. Cleaning them is easy. Dump grounds( I save used grounds to fertilize azaleas) rinse the pod with cool water, a toothbrush works well to lean small spaces. Use the empty pod when doing the descaling.

      My wife and I just take turns with them. The hot one gets left, the cold one from a use before gets dumped into the garbage or compost, and rinsed out and then used. It’s so easy.

    I use the reusable pods and have found using a paper filter makes cleaning easier. On the other hand, using the paper filters does cause water leaking at times. I don’t find the 5 seconds of time filling the pod inconvenient and they really do save $ and help the environment.

    I drink Deathwish coffee and I noticed that you buy for 17 to 19 bucks you buy the 18 pack pods equivalent to 250 grams of coffee.
    For the same price I can buy the ground 1 pound bag of deathwish coffee and I get 450 grams of ground coffee.
    I stay with a reusable Kpod filter.

    Good video but seriously the water is being stored in a plastic bin. It then travels through plastic lines and is heated up. The part of the coffee maker that holds the K cup is plastic and the brewed coffee touches it before going into your cup. You got just a little carried away there but otherwise you brought out several good points for or against the reusable cups. Thanks

    Nice video. The reusable pods are BPA free, so no worries about the plastic leaching chemicals in to the coffee and there are stainless-steel pod alternatives too.

    I use a paper filter. It is a Melita filter and I have to fit it into the k-cup but I got a package of them for about $3.00 at the grocery store, so now it is easy to dump the grounds out and then I can rinse the pod. Works just fine. Love my Keurig!

    • @savepod9401

      Hi Anita! yes those filters make clean up way easier. The only downside in my opinion, is that when you use it with these plastic/metal filter reusable pods, the coffee gets filtered twice, leading to a weaker cup. Also the metal mesh collects bacteria over time. Don't get me wrong, way better than single-use plastic pods, but not optimal. At savepod, we set out to solve that problem by using open rings instead of closed basket reusable k-cups with a built in filter. Our rings have no built in filter so your coffee only passes by one filter, and there is no metal filter to go though or collect bacteria, plus less cleanup. We love our Keurig too, just want to make it as good as possible, and savepod does that :)

    I always do the coffee in the 10 oz. It taste good to me. Keurig considers an 8-ounce cup of coffee to be a fully satisfying cup - it's not too small, and it's not too big.

  • @reeb9016

    You could be reading the sales statistic of K cups going up wrong. It may just be saying that more people are using the Keurig machines than before, not necessarily that people aren't using the reusable pods.

    I use the reusable K cups and agree they are hard to clean and I dred having too but I don't want to pollute the seas or land. The mesh on the cups is turning dark and I was wondering why and is the cause the coffee being bitter. Also would soaking the cups in bleach water clean the screens in the cups or is that dangerous for my health. I also use a paper unbleached filter as well.

    I take out the pod after brewing and leave it until next day. The grounds dry out and fall right out into trash.
    I only do this because I am on a septic system and coffee grounds and septic systems are not friends.

    Warning: I bought a reusable cup with a single hole on top for an original coffee machine, but when I changed machine, I discovered the new one has a multi stream system, that is with four prongs, so I need to buy a corresponding four hole cup, otherwise the old one will break.

    I use the reusable pods exclusively to save money. I just started using the little filters in them as well. There only problem I have is after purchasing a replacement Keiriug machine it leaks out of
    the top of the container that holds the pods as if the pod is overflowing whether I use the paper filter or not.

    I like the reusable pods cause I can buy whatever coffee that is ground and make it. I actually been wanting to try out using K cups versus the reusable pod and see which ones gives better coffee. I always used the k cups but could save $10 rather then paying $8, $9, $10 etc for 12, 24, 48 k cups of coffee.

    I tried them and I ended up with grit in my coffee cup. I tried placing a cut down coffee filter in it and that didn't work to well either. If a person goes that far I say just empty out the cup and fill it with your coffee then place/press foil over the top ...That was just a thought because that is also inconvenient too. saw where they sell the filters to put in the pods. Just another cost.

    I bought a couple, so I could use my own fresh ground coffee. Also, my thought is it will allow me to make a perfectly fresh cup each time, as leaving a whole pot on the drip maker for a few hours tends to slowly burn and bitter the coffee. So, I'll give it a shot.

    Using this with also finding a carafe tempered glass, via overall it was my first time where I realized
    You can make literal Expresso without a keurig machine like omgoodness
    I'm super hype I was able to get this down right before 2023 hopefully either when you see this

    5:29 -- your theory is not necessarily correct. If sales of single use has gone up then sales of the devices may have gone up orrrrr if the sales of the machines are stagnant/stable then people could be using the machines more. Sometimes you have to work a new appliance into your routine.

    • @savepod9401
      @savepod9401  Год назад +2

      grind your beans finer and pack them in pretty tight. that's the strongest you'll get :)

    • @roberts1924
      @roberts1924 Год назад

      Do NOT grind it finer or pack it in, as savepod suggested. That will cause problems and mess up your machine. It shouldn't be ground any more than the typical coffee comes ground and shouldn't be packed. But you can buy Keurigs that have a Strong button where the water sits longer in the grounds, making the coffee strong. The higher level machines, like the K-Elite and K-Supreme have it.

    The number one reason for using a reusable pod is not only the quality of the coffee but also that you can make fresh ground coffee from whole beans. If you've ever been to a upscale restaurant, every cup of coffee is brewed with fresh ground coffee beans and the difference is night and day with aroma and flavor.
    Another advantage is a pod only holds about 7 grams of coffee, which is about a 7 ounce cup "max", more like for a five ounce cup. It's pretty much gram of coffee per an ounce of water. You can get about 15 grams of coffee in a reusable pod and you can also adjust the grind to get more intense flavor (and a better caffeine buzz). If you're like me, I fill up a 16 ounce Yeti style cup from my Keurig and I actually get a real cup in my "thermos" style Yeti type cup that keeps it nice and hot for hours for about a nickle versus .50 to .75 cents each for a K-pod.

    • @savepod9401
      @savepod9401  Год назад

      I agree that there is no comparison between freshly ground and pre-ground, I always opt for freshly ground. I use the capresso grinder and love it! You can deff get a stronger cup as well. I love the Yeti as well, use it every day :)

    • @EricChanning7
      @EricChanning7 Год назад

      @@savepod9401 Another chemical benefit that exist with some Keurigs and certainly not all is the ability to adjust the temperature of the water used during the brewing process. I just updated to a Keurig K-Cafe from a V600. Both sell from $200. My coffee snob friends only brew with a French press at 210 degrees F, 32 grams to 32 ounces, allowed to soak before dispensing for at least three minutes.
      A drip style coffee maker, while convenient, can't touch a fresh ground French pressed coffee. My V600 had the option to a 198 F. Unfortunately, the pump/heater went out. Oh well. My gf likes her Keurig pods, which BTW, works out to be about $40 - $50 a pound yet squirm to pay $10 - $15 a pound for whole bean. I personally use a burr coffee grinder.
