Promo video for "Coast" from the album "KI" by the Devin Townsend Project. Video directed by Konrad Palkiewicz. Visit Dev's new website at: www.hevydevy.com
I love the restraint in this song. There's so much tension that just gradually builds up throughout the song but doesn't quite overflow. It's brilliant!
Ki remains my favourite Devin Townsend album, which shows how fucking great it is given that I'm a metalhead and Synchestra or ZTO should be a more obvious choice.
Dreamscapes. Flashing imagry. An Devs god dam immaculate song writing. It upsets me visually and sonically. Its so grainy and abstract, just like a dream sequence, yet its filled with relevent infomation to be interpreted. Run away .....
I met Devin today, he came into my restaurant today. Had a one on one convo with him, what a cool fucking guy! I cant till his acoustic show in Seattle!
Devin writes complex albums and has done for years, what were you expecting, some kind of throwaway auto-tuned chart-friendly R&B single? I love his diversity, i think it's a strength.
Seriously love your work Mr Townsend, keep keeping it real - hope your tour ends up near this side of the world... there are plenty of folks who really appreciate your work well south of the tropic of capricorn and had thought the chance to see you perform your work live was completely lost!
Great video, Devin. i really enjoyed it. Conrad is a great fellow and he seems to bring something different to the table when it comes to music videos. great work, guys!
fuckin brilliant. i just love devin townsend. the most unknown treasures of music history. its a shame that everybody doesnt listen to his music. they dont know wat there is to be missed in music
This is not another fake story about meeting Devin. Last week, went with my girlfriend to a have a dinner in a sophisticated restaurant (if not the most) in my town. Background music: "coast" from The Devin Townsend Project. True Story. Man, you're so versatile.
well, that second statement is really more a matter of taste and opinion, but it's great when one artist can lead you to others, no matter if you dig them or not!
asking a question on alternative tunings is also a way to learn, tune to it then learn. there are petals that detune and can masque the tone. also I can play this opening on my bass so its knowledge i seek . ANYWAY THANKS DEV YOUR MY X-FILES OF MUSIC!
When I lived in New Hampshire they had a commercial about visitors that were hiding from people and if we spotted them we should call their hotline. I'm sure it was my baby brain hallucinating but my mom and bro also recall that day that "weird commercial came on"
The vid is mesmerizing.Gives you the impression that they know something I don't.haha!Awesome clean guitar riff.Right at the end the guitar plays a scale like in devin;s buddah2 vid. When I watched that one i had to learn to play it cause it just sounds soo atmospheric.the content of coast remains a mistory.
@pcrvg0808 I think this may be a reference to Coast To Coast, a radio show that plays from midnight to like six AM. It deals with Aliens, Angels and other supernatural things. As well as tangible items.
Hey devin, i just got the album for my sixteenth birthday and i love it its insanely awesome and i cant wait for the last three records. But i have one problem with my copy, it skips around way to much (its brand new in fact i struggled for 15 minutes to get the plastic wrapping off of it.) I guess i will have to live with it.
@metallicat67 Remember he started his professional recording career working with Steve Vai and turned that gig down because that wasn't what he was looking for... He does well financially; he's made a lot of good business decisions in terms of how to produce, record and distribute his albums, so it isn't like he's worried about his retirement or anything, which is amazing for a musican. I'm not saying I don't think he deserves more recognition, just that you needn't worry about his finances.
i followed your directions dev about full screen in the dark. at 3:25 i started panting like i was fucking in the video, being persued by fucking aliens. trippy shit.
If had the ability to punch someone in the face through my computer scream because someone merely stated their negative opinion. Believe me sir, i would.
when i grow-up i want to be Devin Townsend.
Id let him grab my
Urm... Ehm
Yeh me too!!
I could totally hear this song in the end credits of a horror movie or videogame. It’s surreal. I love it.
I love the restraint in this song. There's so much tension that just gradually builds up throughout the song but doesn't quite overflow. It's brilliant!
I was into Devin way back in the day and my friend played me Ki while we were shrooming and I've never felt the same since.
I doubt you'll get a notification for this, but fuck yeah man. This was a life altering album for me.
Ki remains my favourite Devin Townsend album, which shows how fucking great it is given that I'm a metalhead and Synchestra or ZTO should be a more obvious choice.
One of the most underrated videos and songs by Dev. Love this tune
3:29 on blows my mind every time
Came here after the brilliant version of Coast on Order of Magnitude: Empath Live Volume 1. Devin Townsend, a little strange, but vèry tasty!
This Song is GREAT! I can totally hear hints of Casualties of Cool. Not to mention how trippy it is. GENIUS!
This is my 2020 song, being on the California coast, in quarantine... Where people were so bored that mysterious monoliths were all over the news.😂
underappreciated
dude this album was not a letdown maybe for u but for some of us it was a very great album.i listen to it almost everyday

Because he is way to amazing for most people to comprehend. Phallus, fuck yeah.
When I lived in New Hampshire they had a commercial about visitors that were hiding from people and if we spotted them we should call their hotline. I'm sure it was my baby brain hallucinating but my mom and bro also recall that day that "weird commercial came on"
Devin's instructions for watching the video:
Sit in a dark room.
Put it in HD and full screen
Sit about 60" away from the screen
Watch it 6 times
The vid is mesmerizing.Gives you the impression that they know something I don't.haha!Awesome clean guitar riff.Right at the end the guitar plays a scale like in devin;s buddah2 vid. When I watched that one i had to learn to play it cause it just sounds soo atmospheric.the content of coast remains a mistory.
I like that Devin actually comes up with artistic music videos as opposed to your standard "band in a warehouse"...
Nice! DTP rocks!
i dont even care if this isnt his heaviest, its still pretty fucking awesome
@metallicat67 Greatness can't be justified by wealth. I'm just proud of what Devin have accomplished and expect a lot of great things still to come.
Best head down to Bloodstock Open Air 2010 then. He's confirmerd for a UK exclusive gig there
i want to hug devin townsend
@pcrvg0808 I think this may be a reference to Coast To Coast, a radio show that plays from midnight to like six AM. It deals with Aliens, Angels and other supernatural things. As well as tangible items.
dat music
I'm not sure about the video, but the song is really nice.
FUCK! I LOVE THIS
"Monolith found in 2001." That's quite a heavy reference there.
Fuck man i think i need to go and buy this album right now!
Yay, waiting for Addiced. And don't stop doing that weard thing called music. :)
Hey devin, i just got the album for my sixteenth birthday and i love it its insanely awesome and i cant wait for the last three records. Toronto frozen over... is that like when hell freezes over?!
you can see the resemblance in the hands. dev has alien fingers as he described it himself. lol.
@Wabaanimkii you just didn't hear of it before and i bet you've ordered it right after your comment ;)
\o/
A reference to 2001: A Space Odyssey with the "Monoliths"? So-called UFOlogy in the form of Greys and lights in the forest?
@seektheself
Whatever you want it to be ;)
He is musically rich, and that's what counts bro.
Very inspiring. :)
i followed your directions dev about full screen in the dark.
at 3:25 i started panting like i was fucking in the video, being persued by fucking aliens.
trippy shit.
I like the refference to 2001 A Space Odyssey
@pcrvg0808 Of course, I saw the first response and thought it rather callous. Always willing to help out, friend.
looks like this is for 3D glasses too
If had the ability to punch someone in the face through my computer scream because someone merely stated their negative opinion. Believe me sir, i would.
@murtazax Yo dude a friend showed me hyperdrive & canada while we were shrooming, I'd never heard anything by him before. Holy shit...hooooly shit.
I had no idea this song was about aliens.
I knew it! Ziltoid the Omnicsient and his massive alien army is going to invade the Earth! And Devin Townsend is one of them!
