Not enough love for Ché Aimee Dorval in the comments here! Her voice blows me away, every time I hear her sing! The two of them together is why music is the real magic. Two special people here!!
She is both Uber talented and ridiculously gorgeous. For the life of me I don't understand why she isn't topping the charts consistently.
Well said, completely agree on every level...this is magical. 🙏
i'm coming back every other year only to realize again that this is one of the best things ever on youtube.
Same here...
Yup. This is so good. Don't even know how many times I've listened through it
Yep
I come back all the time, showing it to new people 🥲 yes it is definitely one of the best things on here ❤️
She is both Uber talented and ridiculously gorgeous. For the life of me I don't understand why she isn't topping the charts consistently.
Devin Townsend Logic: "So while I was writing an inhumanly complicated album called Deconstruction I would be so mentally exhausted by the time I got home, that I'd spend the evenings writing one of the most ridiculously beautiful (double)Albums any human ever has or ever will.."
so is Ché
Haha, but it comes natural to him, he can handle family life, being on the road, writing, rehearsing, still able to joke, laught, being on camera and NOT being arrogant/cocky. The worst thing would be if he was that good, but has severe autism and couldnt collab with people or tour, but he´s a FAIRLY, normal bloke, who happens to have the talent and creativity of an autistic savant genius.
Yeah....and invent a new genre of music (ghost space alt country). Incredible talent.
Not inaccurate
True story! Everything Devin does is brilliant. This whole session is unique and chill.
I'm just falling down the devy rabbit hole now. God I love his comments section, so much positivity. The Internet is rarely a repository for happiness, but I always find it here ❤️
Twenty minutes ago I was watching a Bill Bailey comedy sketch and in the comments I saw a mention of the name Devin Townsend, my life will never be the same.
Welcome in brother!
What’s the relation? I’m curious
@@niko8412 Skullet hair
I never realized they wrote and recorded the album seperately. That explains so much, I mean that feeling of lonliess and distance IS the album. That's beautiful, and one of those things about music that's just pure magic.
Mind completely blown - thank you Steve Vai for giving this man a chance to take over the music world.
Cool 🎶🤘
That moment when a Prog Metal guy writes a better Country album than anything that's come out of Nashville in over 50 years.
I haven't listened to much country yet, but everything seems to turn gold when touched by Devin. Even the deliberate false tones in some songs in live performances..
Sturgill Simpson has put out 2 incredible country albums, a rock album, an Americana album, and recently a flawless bluegrass album all in Nashville.
💯🎯🎯🎯👍🏼
Love Devin and really should be playing huge stadiums the man has a talent for writing amazing music and performing with some fantastic artists
I wouldn't be so quick to just label it country. More like "I can't believe it's not country". Or, to parallel the plant-based meat industry: "Beyond Country". Americana is probably the best loose description in all honesty though.
This version of "Bones" is the most devastatingly beautiful thing I think I've ever heard
JUST DISCOVERING THIS FOR THE FIRST TIME AFTER SEEING SOME OF HER STUFF ON HER CHANNEL OR OTHER. MAY I SAY, THIS GIRL IS OFF THE CHAIN MAN. SHE PARTNERED UP WITH THE RIGHT DUDE, AND THIS MUSIC IS SO SUPERB. THANKS FOR MAKING THIS MUSIC AND CREATING THIS VIBE. I FEEL IT IN MY HEART AND SOUL. FROM NYC BROOKLYN, THANKS FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY OLD HEART.
It's repulsive that this has a little under 200,000 views.
Devin and Che are an immaculate force to be reckoned with.
My first time here; I saw a comment made on another video just a minute ago (Grimes - Delete Forever.) Word of mouth just has to spread like that.
How am I only finding out about this now?!? WHY ISN'T THIS MORE POPULAR???
Listening to stuff like this makes me realize how much I love music.
Listening to music like this makes me realize how much I love life. Cheers!
He brought joy back to my relationship with music, too after hating everything to do with music industry for over a decade.
Cross between Daniel Lanois and Robbie Robertson styles. Awesome blended vocals and guitar effects
"Bones" made my brain explode. Ché looks ridiculously beautiful.
She is.
No argument here...what a voice
So does Devin :)
Bones gave me the bone
God she is amazing
How can you NOT nod your head to this music? Che's voice is just mesmerizing, and Devin in backing harmony... this is like aural sex.
So Devin's goal is to be the absolute best in EVERY genre of music now? I for one, will be with him every step of the way! Over used, but he really is a musical genius.
Music shouldn't be about genre. Others will evaluate your music and put you in a place that you can't step out off. That's not freedom, and music should be about an expresion of yourself, no matter where the music takes you. He is a genius
@@WaLTeRDeFiNiS This is probably one of the most intelligent comments about music that I have read on a social media platform!
I think at this point he could only REALLY surprise us if he drops a rap album.
But let's be honest... it'd probably be the best rap album of all time.
100%
I love Devin, I adore Devin, but Ché is the dark star in Bones. I need her to sing forever to the wondrous harmonies in Bones. I could listen to those notes, those transitions and her voice in that fabric of music until the gloam of our universe winks out...
Even better than the studio versions...
Agree 👍
Should have left the intro in there , kind of sets the tone. Plus whatever filter that was put on Cha voice in the studio kills it.
This is a remarkable video, giving us a peek into how people like these create their magic, AND so effortlessly. I've listened to & viewed this countless times over the years - just amazing, soulful, haunting... AND then we've Ché... I swear; She's like the RUM in a Hot Buttered Rum... so smooth, so flavorful, and certainly the vocal elixir that glues these tunes together. Devin is simply a freak of nature that is a musical river of abundance to his listeners, and together with the bewitching Ché Aimee Dorval.... pure auditory OM for the mind and joy to the soul. ~Peace
This is as close to a spiritual experience as one can get!!
Ché is wonderful in every way, and Devin keeps being a genius at every level!!
This is aural bliss.
The diversity of Devin's music is just mind blowing. Alien, The Hummer, Epicloud, Ki, Devlab, Deconstruction, Synchestra or Casualties Of Cool, no matter what style he's playing; I love it all. Pure genius.
Punky Brewster!
@@cowboycatranch omg. I saw the comment and thought the same thing then hit show replies. There you are.
it's five years later, and it's just getting better and better
This is what heaven must sound like. Such great meditative relaxing music, I'm at a loss for words.
Ché Aimee Dorval is just beautiful and her voice is incredible! and Devy well the guys a god
Best 20 minutes I spent on RUclips...
I spent my Covid19 stimulus check on a Tele because of this man. Best decision of 2020 for me.
20:00 This is where I break completely. Simply staggeringly beautiful.
Reminds me of Daniel Lanois.
Michael Brook Vibe.
Black Dub. Anything Devin Townsend touches like Steven Wilson it's just Fantastic.
When I was listening to him back in 1647 (before he even listened to himself) he wrote some damn fine pirate ditties
This deserves so many more upvotes lmao
"Why you gotta put echo on everything?!" - Devins dad. Cant believe I am only now discovering this album. nice to see them still promoting it.
Devin can do no wrong, the most diverse musician in the business today.
Have you heard all of his stuff? He has released everything from folky, to heavy, thrash, power, ambient, pop, glam, progressive ...name another artist who has explored all those genre's of music
Mike Patton doesn't come close to this...he stays on a pretty standard theme with all of his projects. Good, but not close to what Devin does.
Mike Patton? Ok lol. When he releases an ambient cd and something like Strapping Young Lad then we will talk
Are you sure you are not in love with Mike Patton?. And being diverse musically doesn't mean how much fucking music you recorded, it means how many different genre's of music you have recorded. Go troll somewhere else!
Daves music....maybe i should have rephrased my post to "ONE of the most diverse" then maybe this 4 week pissing match could have been avoided.
I totally am stealing that quote in the second interview about the void, flashes of light and music. Devin's my favorite philosopher, besides the musical genius.
This sounds much better than the record. Why? I don't know, but they've should release this or record all of the songs like they did here
Wow. There's really nothing more to say. Absolutely unbelievable.
Why does this music make me cry?!?! It's just so beautiful!!
These two together is really something else
Gorgeous woman with a voice of gold! together with Devin's bad ass chops and great harmonies! been a fan of Devin ever since he played with Vai! Cheers! That is all!
I'm tellin' you . . .
If some DJ on a Country/Western station played "Mountain Top", that song would just EXPLODE and tons of bands would follow suit and create a new subgenre :). And with a huge grin on my face, knowing that the creator of Strapping Young Lad and Devin Townsend Project started it, and many of those country fans would become Metalheads . . . world domination insues \m/.
But this was 2016 . . . they and the world missed out, except for Hevy Devy's loyal fans.
Sounds more rockabilly than country..kinda johnny cash like
@@blixx8931 Closer to country than most of the trash that's currently played on country stations
Nice dream, but I don't know about that. I think it might be too psychedelia for most country fans even despite the fact that modern country is basically rock. They don't like psychedelic music; it takes the Earth away from beneath them, & that scares them.
@@dylangilman Yeah, I'm guessing you're at least 40 because it's been like this for about 20 years, & younger listeners don't know the difference. It's basically bad rock at this point. Country's last hurrah was the 80's IMO. Perhaps Kenny Rogers is partly to blame for the music becoming more mainstream, but he sure did put out a few great albums in his time. When he started doing the crossover stuff with Lionel Riche; I think that's when country producers started watering down what country was... then the 90's saw artists moving the needle over further until the naughts, when it just became crap.
@@JeighNeither I'm 7 months late but no matter, I'll jump in! I think genres and labels get a lot of blame for what the consumer does. If people actually had good musical taste and respected the art form, then consumers would dictate what is profitable and then the labels would follow suit. Labels just realized that most people don't care about music so it's more profitable to pump out sub par music for the 99% of humans who have little to no real relationship with music. Everyone loves to claim that they are music fans and "can't live without it". And then they listen to Drake. Musicians need to take part of the blame too since FAAAR too many of them are after recognition and happily sacrifice artistic integrity to get there. I'm not famous and I never will be because my music isn't about being successful. It's about music.
Just when U thought true musical art was extinct. Here it Iz!!
This isn't long enough. More, more, more, more! Gimme more.

Done
Your comment makes me want to listen to "more" every time I see it, and then this again because
Would be really cool if Dunlop and Devin could make this audio available. Absolutely astounding.
haha this was the first thing i did
I love all Devs work, how have I never listened to Casualties before?!?!?! Fucking awesome shit!
2016?! I can't believe I'm only seeing this now.
Beautifully shot, beautiful music, beautiful Ché and beautiful Devin.
My gosh. The first and especially the last songs are pure masterpiece..
Sounds amazing at Dunlop sessions...
Che is the goddess ❤
When "Bones" started, I died. And it revived me before it was over. That song, and this rendition in particular, is out of this world.
Talented and inspired people meet sometimes !
Watching their feet keeping time is fun, shes on the 1s and 3s and hes on the 2s and 4s, so interesting how people internalize rhythms differently
What a fantastic duo. Absolutely delightful music.
I literally JUST found out about this guy through a RUclips video for the "Mooer Ocean Machine" FX pedal. Never knew what I was missing. Fantastic stuff!! THIS (and How-To instructional videos) is the stuff that makes RUclips worthwhile.
Kidfixer watch his videos!!"deadhead" at royal Albert hall
Forgive Me sounds really amazing in this version.
Why am I only just hearing this now? Sublime ☺️🤘
a transforming experience thank you
Dev in bare feet, gotta love it!
WOW, I had not heard this 🖤 love it.
My jam for tonight!!
David Maxim Micic ...your music is MY jam many nights...Devin is my favorite individual musician of the last 25 years...but you are fast becoming one of my new favorites. Potatoes potate : -)
David Maxim Micic Following Dev pays off yet again. I just checked your channel David and dig your tunes! Great stuff man. You just gained another follower!
PLEASE COLLABORATE WITH HIM
you like the Dev?! fuck yeahhhh
David! You are an inspiration to me just the same as Devin Townsend. If you could message me about who mastered your album, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for creating equally as beautiful work as Mr. Townsend.
Bloody hell... why have i only just now discovered this? This is amazing!!
only recently got to know about Devin, getting at more and more music from him... and damn, I hope he never stops!!!
One of very few musicians that I enjoy listening to him talk as much as his music.
Is... Devin wearing a suit jacket and sweat pants? I love that man.
Poltergeist he can get away with literally anyghing
Also NO Socks NOR SHOES!
Devin is crafting a legendary career, truly creating his mark on music and doing it with class, humor and unrelenting passion.
To be warm and chilling at the same time...
To be haunting and soothing at the same time....
To be genius and humble at the same time.....
To be creative and free at the same time.......
Damn, this version of Mountaintop is magical. The "wooooooooo" chorus...it...it does things to me ;_;
Ash Green doth make it moist beneath the loin garters sire?
These people are genuinely two of the most beautiful people on this planet. I hang on to every word Devin says. He's like a spiritual guru with extreme godlike musical abilities.
Man, studying Devin Townsend´s way of thinking, listening to his podcast, listening to his music...etc. Changed my way of viewing things. Like a new religion I made for myself...so I guess he's very much a spiritual guru that preaches through sound!
This is still so fabulously beautiful. Thank you Ché and Devin.
This album got me through my mom’s passing. Thank you Devin and Ché Aimee
sounds like a movie soundtrack, very some interesting.
Something about this project, to me, screams "Lunar Country". That should be the new thing. This is an amazing project and there needs to be more stuff like this.
Very well said. Lunar country, nice
Devin is such a gem. I can't believe we get such honest, subtle music like this and the madness that is Ziltoid.
Devin Townsend has enough talent to last at least several more lifetimes it seems. This is gorgeous with Che. Always expect the unexpected from him.
Che has a quite unique way of singing, I really like it.
2 beautiful talented souls collided
Mind blowing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had never heard of Che before, but damn, she's gorgeous.
Indeed, and it's natural. She doesn't need a stitch of makeup.
...and she's a friggin phenomenal vocalist on a bunch of levels... cmon dudes haha..
This always rubs me the wrong way. She's clearly a very talented musician. That took a lot of effort and time. That's what you should compliment, not her looks. You never see this with male musicians, and that's with good reason. Imagine someone playing a tough as nails solo, and all you read is ''What a handsome guy''. I know it's not meant to be offensive, but it is.
How about we compliment whatever the fuck we want? No one appointed you comment police. Your being offended entitles you to nothing.
I'm glad I don't know anyone as agressive as you in real life.
Che is so beautiful. Oh my. ❤️
the breakers of Cool have always been the most astounding artists, musicians, writers. Always. Cool is ultimately uncool because everyone is. Or was.
This is one of the best things ive ever experienced. Imagine this live in a setting like this.
I could have gone my whole life having not seen Devin's feet... yet here I am.
Devin is a super human.... and Ché has such a beautiful voice. How can it possibly go wrong. I love Devins "metal" face expressions while playing quite tunes. =)
Shivers and Tears...
I want that framus. Wood grain to die for!
She has, quite possibly, the most perfectly ideal voice for this style...whatever you want to call it. Ambient, southern gothic Americana. It’s actually too good to pin a name on it, yet here I am trying. It’s almost criminal. Che and Devin together have created a sound I’ve wanted to hear in my head for a very long time. You know how you just KNOW something is missing, but you can’t put a finger on it? Is it material? A person or a place? In this case, it turned out to be a sound. And it is perfect. Every measure is perfect.
I used to be a huge fan of one of the first albums from chris isaak (dangerous games) and the sound of ambiant guitar and overall tone of the album.
No song ever came close to that ever since my childhood before I finally stumbled upon this.
Just like you, i've been itching for a sound like this, I know for a fact that this is going to be stuck in my head for weeks to come.
Gardukk THANK YOU! I’ve been telling people this album has a HUGE Chris Isaak vibe! I love Heart Shaped World (really everything he’s ever done). He has a very unique feel that is very difficult to explain, but Casualties totally captures it.
As a long time fan of Devin, Im ashamed Ive never heard of this before. Utterly breahtaking, amazing, astounding sounding. Love at first listen. If they ever do a proper The dark tower movie, I hope this is the soundtrack.
You gotta love the purity of this music...No flash, just pure style...
Devin and Ian Thornley are the most brilliant singer/songwriter/guitarists, who are under appreciated. Just genius!
New dimension of harmonies and music, just wow.
'Bones' made me cry. I love Casualties.
Yup. His music does that to me. Sometimes even Mastodon too. But mostly Dev.
Utterly mesmerising. I was lucky enough to see casualties Of Cool when they played live at The Union Chapel, Islington, London a couple of years ago. It was an amazing show. Ché has a fantastic voice.
hrothgar64 I just watched that performance, what an amazing show, wish I coulda been there...
that gig was life changing.
Two years after i will say this. Che and Dev is one of the most Beautiful durable duo ever
Glad I been listening to DT since SYL, the guy is a real musician.
This is the most beautiful thing & I still watch it repeatedly all these years later.
This is awesome. Dev just being Dev and Chè....good gracious. This is one of the are times I have thoroughly enjoyed a female vocal in a long time.
This is absolute GOLD.
Audio guys killed it.
Che is such a beautiful woman. It's amazing how Devin can get in touch with such talented artists.
Talent attracts talent I guess
There’s nothing that man can’t do he is easily becoming my favorite artist hands down
The music and the makers are beautiful.
Bones feels like raw, unfiltered sorrow.
No lies, the song makes me feel beautiful sadness.
Devin Townsend is for any guitar based music that is metal/rock/ambient/folk/bluegrass the undisputed king, he sorta mixet all of that in a proggy atmospheric way that is his own style, and there´s a difference between being experimental, and unaccesable or boring, or experimental, but actually pleasant and nice to listen to, Dev is that.
THIS!
Devin Townsend never ceases to amaze me
I love the percussive feel of the guitar. The melodies and the interpolating harmony of these two is what really sells it though. Great stuff yet again from a wickedly talented artist. I hope he comes back to this again. Psyched for empath.
