I'm in Tokyo, and I see pretty women in general. This female who works at the front desk lobby in a hotel I'm staying in. At first, when I arrived on the first didn't really notice because she was wearing a mask and after a while of looking into her eyes, I feel somewhat smitten.

Interesting. I have a Japanese girlfriend in Tokyo and we are looking at getting married next year. I'm older than you, but I'm trying to get her to move here in the United States. The problem for me is that living in Japan would be a major drop in my living standard. I just bought a new house 5 bedroom/3 bath at 2700 sq ft and getting something similar in Japan would be very difficult and expensive to achieve. I also have two vehicles including a Toyota truck and Lexus sedan. Again, getting a large home with garage is a problem in Japan and I'd have to replace my vehicles. She just doesn't understand the major difference in living standards between us. I make 20 times what she does each year and have an extremely comfortable lifestyle. Though my income wouldn't be impacted by moving to Japan, the expense of it is not something I really want to go through. It would be so much easier if she'd agree to move here at least for the next 5 years. We'd like to have some kids and it just would work much better for us if she'd agree.

Thank you for your comment! While I may not be the best person to offer advice on your specific situation, I can share a bit of insight from my own experience regarding the cost of living in japan. In areas outside the city, about a 30 to 45-minute drive, you might be surprised by the size of the house and land you can get compared to more urban locations. In any case, good luck with your decision- I know it's a big one❤

Cant you just rent a decent apartment in Japan and live that way anyways? Plus, there are plenty of cheap high quality cars there.

Yeah, there's nothing you can really do if you prefer an American lifestyle. If you can't live there and she never showed any real motivation or effort to living overseas then she's not going to. Japanese usually aren't independent minded and are very conformist... to their society. Odds are great she'll end up wanting to move back to Japan soon enough if moved overseas.
And please reconsider having kids with a Japanese woman. You don't really seem to be the type that would "go along with the program" and more the your that would insist on getting what you consider a fair compromise. So I suspect at some point she would bolt. I've seen over a dozen relationships like yours over the years.
In that event you would have no recourse. Laws in Japan regarding custody are not in your favor. If she decides to cut you off, the government can and will protect her. Including against charges of child abduction by the US government.

@@ZaWyvern Thanks. I really don't mind moving to Japan eventually. Just right now at the start of the marriage is inconvenient for me and would cause me a lot of problems. That is why I said I'd like to live here for at least the next 5 years. Also, regarding children. I hate to say this, but I'm not enamored with the idea of actually raising children. I wouldn't make a very good dad because I don't think I'd be attached to them. For me at least, the only point of children is to pass on my genes and of course, it is beneficial for the human species. After all, if you don't have children you have no future. So if she left me and took the kids, I don't think I'd be troubled by that in the least. I'll have a pre-nup in place so she won't get anything if she does do that. The only caveat obviously being that I will support my children in helping pay for them in part as far as the costs of raising them and might leave them an inheritance provided they make contact and get to know me.

@@caralho5237 Of course I can get an apartment. The only reason I own such a large house in the US right now is for raising children in. I think a house is a better environment than an apartment for that and that is part of the reason I bought the house I did in anticipation of that. The problem I have is she is from Tokyo and wants to live near her parents. Building a home in Tokyo is both expensive and I question the quality of what can be built. I know there are severe difficulties getting proper insulation. modern thermal double pane windows installed in a house in Japan, and other conveniences like a good central HVAC system that are pretty standard in newly built modern American homes now.. Also, getting enough land to put in a garage and other features would be difficult in Tokyo. And as far as I understand it, there aren't any new developments where they build new homes in the countryside like they do in modern American suburbs where I'm living now.
