- In this video I upgrade the Axial UTB18 Capra 1/18 to four wheel steering, elevating the mini Capra's performance capabilities to new heights! The 4WS setup is powered by two upgraded servos: Reefs RAW500's at each end! The speed and power of this steering system is outrageous. Watch on to see them in action!

That is one stunning piece of kit. 🤤 I am learning so much from your channel.
Awesome! Thank you!
I was considering a Capra18 but when they announced the 24 4WS that one makes more sense for my indoor course
Totally agree. The UTB18 is useless on my indoor course. It's just too big. I am very excited for the new AX24!
I am just like you (OCD) and I totally see where you are coming from. Great build!
Haha thank you!
I just ordered the front axel and another Raw400LP for my rig ! You talked me into it. Im like you ,love tinkering . Keep up the good Work
Thanks for watching!
Dude!! That's B.A. !! I just got a UTB18 today, and already got a 400lp in the mail..I so want the 4ws as well!! Can't wait!! Great video and Cool Rig 👌💯💯
Finally located that creaking noice. A 10 sec. fix. I just put some WD-40 on the front and rear driveshafts moving parts. Aaah, that cured my OCD. Runs smooth an quiet now. Thanks for your great videos.
Ahh I must try this!! Thanks for the tip!
Great video as always. Yeah, it’s hard to argue or justify price points on big vs small. I have both and honestly I think I enjoy the smaller scale more. It just expands the terrain your exploring, you can play in all those cracks and crevices a 1/10 would pass over without effort. Thanks for all the content. Your videos are a go-to when I consider my next micro Rc purchase.
Thank you! Very good point about the terrain expansion. I can imagine a 1/10 capra being so capable it would take quite the location to really challenge it. You can get away with less terrain and have more fun with the smaller scales.
awesome video as usual Adam, i just just love the way you got so excited over those dual reefs 💪💪💪
LOL my enthusiasm is hard to hide!
Thanks for the video. Tinkering is the best and additive.
Thanks for watching! Tinkering is my therapy
Oohh!! 😯 I like the new intro!
I looked on IcebergRC's site & looked at different bodies for the Axial 24 Gladiator, & man...they got a couple on there that look pretty good. Lol
Thank you for this comment I've been trying to find some cool new bodies for my 24 I love the magnetic mounts that they make two
@@VS666 not a problem at all.
Thanks! I will check out those bodies!
@@CapeCrawlers yup.
Four Wheel Steering is always one of my favorites! Nice!
Such a cool mod!
INTRO 👍
A keeper?
new intro kicks ass by the way!
Thanks! Trying something new.
This is my next build! Awesome video. Love it. 🤘
Thanks for watching! I love this thing, so much fun.
@@CapeCrawlers … man … this UTB18 is killin me. lol. I want one bad. 😂
This vid just keeps pulling me back … like you the minute I saw it I saw FWS. This feels so much like a great grab and go “travel” rig for indoor AND outdoor but so much easier to roll with than my 1/10ths.
well, that escalated quickly 😅
Sure did!
I'm with you dude I'm the same way.
I was just about ready to pull the trigger on a 4WS SCX24 Deadbolt build...and you make this video. Now I can't decide!!
They’re both fun. The UTB18 is massively more capable though just due to its size
@@CapeCrawlers I have an original 1/10 Capra that I have been thinking about adding 4WS to as well.
Awesome job on the modification, you will have alot of fun on the rocks now. The flysky radio is great isn't it ? I love mine . As always , great video Adam
Thanks! I am really loving the flysky. What huge bang for the buck in that transmitter combo!
Love that new intro!
Thanks! Figured I would try something different.
Impressive
Great job Adam. I'd have to level out that rear axle, it may also help with getting hung up. But great looking truck. I did the 4ws mod to my 10th scale capra and I love it. John
Thanks! I need to do some tweaking to the rear to regain some capabilities, but overall I am really happy with it.
would you need to have adjustable links?
Awesome new intro
Glad you like it
Yeah awesome, just home from work watching now, I’ve been out putting windows in house all day now I’m just trying to thaw out, hi only have one rig with rear steering, that is my LMT gravedigger I have a rear steering, monster truck Hass to have rear steering
That's an awesome truck!
That aluminum in the front will help with front bias. That extra weight in the rear needs an offset of weight.
Thinking I should remove my brass portal covers in the rear, maybe brass hexes too. What do you think?
@@CapeCrawlers Absolutely, without a doubt.
I want to 4WS on mine but just haven’t done it yet. I will probably end up using my RadioLink RG6 as it has a knob behind the steering wheel that would work great. I like the idea of controlling the fron & rear separately. You could have gotten another aluminum front axle the would have solved you OC issue. 😅 With the stock 56/44 weight bias, the servo & steering will add weight to the rear so why add portal weights.
I'm going to take the portal covers and brass housings off right away, That big servo is plenty! I am going to order a new aluminum housing to cure my OCD :)
Wd-40 that sqeeky bugger.😮
❤❤❤
Love the new intro and this things a beast with 4WS great video how cool would it be to take the atlas 6x6 and making it 6WS? You would probably have to spread the rear axles apart but just saying
Thanks! 6WS.. mind blown!
I bet this thing is ready for 10th scale competition
I'm dying to get it on the 10th scale course at our local shop. It should be able to shred some lines now!
@@CapeCrawlers can't wait to see that video
Using a front axle on the rear like that did you have to reverse gears or did it just bolt up a turn like it should?
Should have used the aluminum for the back and the plastic in the front with all the brass up front. That's what i would have done. Cool either way, though, Adam.
Thanks! I learned a lot from this video. I’ve since shifted all of my heavy parts up front and used plastic and aluminum in the back
Those plastic driveshaft squeaking drove me nuts i had to upgrade those sooner than i had planned. No amount of oil/lube or grease would shut them up. Love your build. Do the upper links it the full sized servo?
It creaks like an old rocking chair! I do not notice any collision with the links on the big servos
That is sweet! Let me ask you, after I installed the Furitek system, reefs Raw 400lp servo and 10mm extender wheel hexes I am braking CVD axles like crazy. Are you having issues with excessively breaking front axles?
I have only broken one CVD thus far (knock on wood). I am anxiously awaiting aftermarket support and stronger axles!
How do you fasten the hood? Mine has a screw in the front.
How long does your battery last with them? I'm worries that my one nsdrc500b that's direct power is going to make my stock battery die too fast
Amazing build as always. What do you do after you build them? Do you just add them to your collection?
Nah, I rotate them in and out of use. Between my son and I they all get used fairly frequently!
@@CapeCrawlers i hope one of these days you'll decide to send one of these builds away to someone like me who will pay for it. 🔥🔥
You do some very cool tricks and builds. Have watched a ton of videos.
Have been in this hobby a long time there is no way you can run 2 raw 500 off a esc. You have to use a bec.
Please use your following to educate them on bec and why they are still needex
I feel like I still need to educate myself on that, so we'll learn together!
@@CapeCrawlers you have any questions shoot me a message. I can help out.
Either dp servos. Or bec
Do you know if you can bind that transmitter to a stock 24 and Traxxas
I don't believe you can. I haven't heard of anyone successfully binding another tx to the traxxas esc., and I am fairly certain it wont work with the scx24.
Great video ! Do I need to replace the stock receiver to control the extra rear steering servo ?
Thanks! Yes, I believe so. Certainly if you want the proportional rear steering. But I don't think the stock transmitter has a switch/button available to operate the rear steer.
@@CapeCrawlers I’ll be using my dx5c.
This setup can with fs gt3c?
Jeez lube those driveshafts 🥴
Just so I understand correctly, it needs the front axle housing in the rear in order for the servo to actually have something to turn?
Yes, exactly.
@@CapeCrawlers wow you wherent kidding when you said it’s super easy, do I have to use the esc that comes w the flysky receiver?
Kool ..im not a rear steer guy makes it a complicated drive going over rocks ..I have a 1/10 capra kit no rear steer but you would lov to build the kit
I've been eyeing the builders kit. Looks super fun!
@@CapeCrawlers ya its incredible you won't be disappointed
What brand/type of transmitter and receiver are you using for this crawler?
It's a FlySky GT5 and FS-BS6 rx. I love it!
Thank you for replying. I do appreciate it. I am wanting to put 4ws on my cen racing hl150 monster truck and needed a radio and receiver to use.
What voltage are you running the servos?
6.5v on the servos. That's the max the Lizard will allow.
@@CapeCrawlers I think if you turn the voltage down it would stop cutting out , just a thought.
Does that flysky work on scx24 , I'm kind of new to this , cars turn into money pits quick !
Yes it does. It comes with the receiver, but not the esc, so you'll need an esc to go with it. You are absolutely right about the money pit!
So are you using the stock reciver?
No, I'm using the FlySky FS BS86 receiver
Love it. But those servos are a little pricey
Very pricey. And they draw huge power. Definitely need a BEC for this setup on the UTB18.
You just sold me on a capra
With that servo work with the stock ESC?
It would function but would be heavily under powered.
@@CapeCrawlers well I guess I’m going to have to buy more parts. Down the rabbit hole I go. 🍻
really enjoy your channel my UTB18 is being shipped to me as I write this ,now thanks to your channel, between the rear wheel steer and the vid with the Titanium frame my wallet is crying , and it's all your fault HAHAHA ,I'm a subscribe to your channel
Thanks for watching!
Why didn’t he buy another aluminum back?
I did eventually. It's all aluminum now.
A personal tip: if I see it fall over I immediately close the video.
Good to know! I always wonder if I should include the fails or edit them out.
