    A few notable things I forgot to mention in the video:
    1) The t-tops love to leak
    2) The front sway bar mounting points are known for ripping out of the chassis(especially on the 91-92 MR2's) so get sway bar reinforcement plates if you run a aftermarket sway bar.
    3) The wheel arches are a common place for rust.
    4) The seats tend to rip on the side bolstering.
    Thanks for watching!

    Super helpful video!! I'll look like a pro when I'm shopping now :) If you are still making MR2 content - could you discuss pricing on these? It seems to be a very wide range from $3k - $15k (shopping for an NA model in the southeast USA). Thank you!

    • @saladbar21
      @saladbar21  Год назад

      Prices on all cars have gone way up since I made this video. I see clean rolling chassis' selling for 1-2K all day now. 3-5k gets you a NA MR2 in rough shape. If you are looking for a turbo model, you will need to spend at least 10k, realistically more if you want a clean example. Of course, your local market plays a big part as well. Good luck on your search!

    A great selling point - toyota reliability. Inclose to 8 years I have not had to replace anything because it was worn or broken. I have been upgrading parts over time so that may help. It doesn't get an easy life and I know that you can fit two bales of hay in a sw20. My daily driver and I own horses =)
    Which year do you prefer handling wise? I like the feel of the pre 93 models myself - mine is one so I am biased. But I think the post 93 feel a little tamer, they lost some of the edge.

    • @saladbar21
      @saladbar21  4 года назад

      I am with you and prefer the 91-92 MR2’s because they are a lot more lively. I feel it does make it harder to drive at the limit, but it’s more engaging and enjoyable to me. Thanks for the view and support!

    Hey man, are 1991 cars bad by any means? Going to take a look at one, but it's modified with good suspension work, brakes, chassis bars, etc. Second owner since new. It's modified though lol. I can't seem to find any 95+ here, and I'm thinking to pull the trigger on this.

    • @saladbar21
      @saladbar21  3 года назад +2

      The 1991 cars are fine. I think people get scared because of the whole snap over steer stuff. 91/92 cars toe out on the rear suspension during rebound which makes the car super twitchy when combined with the rear weight bias and short wheel base of the car. Just take your time getting used to the car, so you understand the handling characteristics. Other than that, I would suggest asking or looking to see if sway bar reinforcement plates have been added. They are cheap. You mentioned suspension upgrades, so if the car has aftermarket sway bars, the sway bar mounting brackets have been known to rip with aftermarket bars. I would also recommend looking to see if the coolant lines above the gas tank are leaking, very common thing. If they are, you’ll see coolant coming down the sides of the gas tank towards the rear of the car closer to the engine bay. If you have any other questions, I’m happy to help!

    • @cw4933
      @cw4933 4 года назад

      salad-bar21 that’s awesome I really dig that white! Any idea what they’re going for now ppl seam to expect like 10k for them but everyone keeps talking about how they’re cheap?! I don’t need mint condition, I want it as a project to have fun with but doesn’t look feasible🤷🏼‍♀️

    • @saladbar21
      @saladbar21  4 года назад

      Pricing any car is a hard thing because there is many variables. I can definitely say MR2’s were cheaper a few years and have been appreciating in value lately. If you’re looking for a clean NA mr2, it’s fair to say you could expect to pay around 3-5k. I’ve seen clapped out turbo mr2’s for 3k, and the really clean examples go for 15k. I would recommend looking around in your area and talking with locals to get a definite answer.

    • @frankhernandez6524
      @frankhernandez6524 4 года назад

      Let me get this straight.
      US Vin for an NA is sw21?
      US vin for a turbo is sw22?
      The world vin for Mr2 is sw20?

    • @saladbar21
      @saladbar21  4 года назад +2

      That’s close.
      SW20 is the world wide(minus America) designation for all second gen mr2’s with the 3S series engine in it which includes the 3sgte and the 3sge.
      SW21 is the designation for the NA mr2 in America. This car had the 5sfe in it.
      SW22 is the designation for the turbo mr2 in American which had the 3sgte.
      I don’t know why Toyota had to make it so confusing to be honest. Everyone calls turbo MR2’s SW20 anyways.
