Great video. Super helpful
I love how easy these cars are to work on. Especially the interior -- the whole back seat is like 6 bolts and then it just comes out. The whole interior can't be held together with more than like 30 bolts lol Doing a fuel pump in my 04 and wanted to do a sanity check to make sure I'm doing it right. Thanks for the very well presented and helpful vid!
I feel getting the break light switch will be a 3 hour job…. Ooof.
Jerry Park
If anyone was curious, my fastest time was good enough for 8 out of 87(raw time), and there’s definitely more time left in the car! www.wmclub.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/fall-frenzy-100624_raw.htm
It would be cool to see a 2GR in the blue mr2. But the J series can be cool. My buddy has an Acura TL with a J series, he autocrosses it and it’s pretty fast. He originally had a j32 that made 260whp, then he swapped to a j37 that he never dynoed but was probably in the 330whp range, and now he has a supercharger on the j37. But his has a water to air intercooler. Makes about 450whp and breaks transmissions lol.
Damn, I could only imagine how scary 450 whp would be in a MR2 😳
@@saladbar21 Sounds like fun to me!
my dream car is a 6 cylinder mr2. im glad you have lived my dream
Stick around for more v6 mr2 stuff, I should be posting updates on the 2GR swap soon. I’m picking up the engine this weekend hopefully!
@@saladbar21 thats awesome dude. if i may ask, what is your main source of income and what level of education did u attain for it? im planning to get a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering and then working at an automotive company. how can I attain hands-on experience like this?
My main source of income is my day job. I planned on going to school to obtain my doctorate, but decided against that after I realized how much debt school would put me into. Instead, I went straight to work after getting my bachelor’s. I currently work in the counseling field in the public sector. I got good pay, benefits, and work/life balance. I also got plenty of continuing education through my work. You’ll have lots of options in the mechanical engineering field. Easiest way to get experience while in school is to connect with clubs that aligns with your vocational interest, do an internship, and network as much as possible. Knowing the right person can go a long way in getting opportunities.
It's looking amazing man. Are you leaving the engine cover off for maximum cooling or does it not fit now with the V6?
It doesn’t fit because of the supercharger. I plan on addressing that in the future, so I’ll be able to use a engine cover again.
@@saladbar21 Nice, did you have something in mind already, like F40 style rear hatches or a custom job?
@intrusivethoughts2045 yeah, my plan was to go with a f40 lid, but those are hard to find.
Mechanics dont buy these, this worries me
Do you still use strut mount and bearings when you use top hats?
Good video bro. I'm considering buying these top hats. How much did you lower the car?
For an ek civic I heard it’s 47ftlbs for 17mm bolt and 14mm was 33ftlbs
boutta do this to my miata with the same roll bar definitely will use this video as a reference thanks
how'd it go?
How do you take off the side step? Looks like it needs to be ground off.
1991 car manufacturers cared about blind spots. You could see everything
Mine is coming in soon and I'm a little bit worried about coolant temps. I still have the original rad, did you notice any higher temps after installation?
No, I didn’t notice any higher temps, but I’m also not driving the car hard.
@@saladbar21 Thanks, I appreciate it. I saw some forum post saying in traffic his temps were rising quite a bit more than normal.
Everyone of mine snapped. I replaced with titanium.10.mm
I have an accord v6 with the 3.0 I’m thinking on running the oil catch can
Very helpful
nullll👎👎😵💫😵💫
I love ORP. I agree that driving different types of cars will help you become a better overall driver. Now you need to find an AWD car to practice with. Time for a new project car.
I’ve already started looking for the next project car. I got plenty room of to have a junkyard in my backyard 😂
Hey all, I apologize for the wind noise during the runs. I was required to have my windows down when on the track. I’ll make sure to have an external mic with a cover to help minimize wind noise for next time. Thanks for watching!
Nice info! What motor you putting in?. Might do this too. Please make a very detailed video like if i was 5 yrs old. as I'll probably use this for information lol. Nice work btw!
Did you ever install the rear Wilhelm top hats? If so, did you end up having to bash in frame rail? I’m in the middle of said installation and it looks like there’s no good way around it
Nice thanks , how do you check the fluid level, is there a way ?
I'm excited about all the progress you have made on the MR2. I look forward to you continuing to dial in this car.
I have a friend who hooked up a Porsche cup car power steering pump in his SW20 and it’s relatively cheap/simple. Comes with a brackets and mounts in the frunk. Just needs power and ground and it controls itself via a built-in computer. All you gotta do is get some custom hydraulic lines that bolt onto the factory rack and it works perfectly. I can give you his info if you’re interested in what he did.
Just a heads up, the wing probably isn’t doing much with the t tops off.
It might be less efficient, but the air foil is above the roof height so it should be seeing clean air. Also the air tapers down slightly after the apex of the roof line so that lowers the minimum wing height slightly.
That 10 mm bolt at the bottom of the door, was there a spacer type thing under it?
I just wish there were more transmission options for this engine So much potential
Yep went out to the garage cause I haven’t driven the car in a little while and noticed the battery was completely dead when I started checking things and jumped it. I noticed the rear lights on and started looking around underneath and saw a few pieces of plastic. Suspected there was a piece in between, but couldn’t see much because it was all broken and into pieces check your video and thought ha ha That’s it. Thanks
How is the wheel fitment on this? Looking at picking up some 17x8/17x9 wheels and trying to see if i will get them to clear the coilovers.
Yeah, I’m able to run the wheel sizes you mentioned without spacers. Even at the most positive setting, you may have too much camber on the front. I did, so I swapped to smaller crash bolts in the front. I bought mine from Two R Us.
Mine should be coning off jack stands this weekend. Can't wait. Also, seeing this course makes me appreciate that my local autox is in a big spot on an airfield.
Yeah, bigger venues are definitely preferred, but we take what we can get. It’s hard to get venues because people tend to complain.
100 miles round trip in an MR2 is a road trip....lol.
You’re definitely right😂 I’m just used to longer trips is all.
i really wish these type of honda engines were more accessible here in the UK, these motors look absolutely amazing ive got a gen 3 3SGE but ive read up that you cant do much with them (unless anyone else knows otherwise)
I’m not familiar with the 3sge since we never got them in the states. Are they like the 5sfe where it is not worth throwing money into mods?
@@saladbar21 i believe so yes, the only noticeable mod you can actually make to them head porting the 5sfe to a 3sge however i believe this is something only compatible with the first generations of 3sges
3sge are superb engines with yamaha engineered cylinderheads, the even went into f3 cars back in the day. you can do a few bits to them that make them really sing, itbs etc though 180 odd hp is the best youll get out of non beams vvt lumps without serious build work. That said im binning mine for a 1mz, tho a honda j series was deff a strong contender, plenty about on ebay. This one really sings!
Hey hey! My bmw is endorsed cool by Salad-Bar 😎. You were flying out there
Thanks, you were flying as well. You ended in 9th overall(raw time)!!
love your car and it sounds amazing
Thanks! 🙏
Nice
Thanks🙏
How much did you pay for your mr2?
$360, I won the car in a raffle(no joke).
Great now i'm going to have to get into a new auto sport. That looks like allot of fun !
Do it!!
Let's go!!!!!
Bro what temps are u seeing bro my j32a2 m90 sc gets up to 215
The highest I have ever seen is like 210.
XLNT! Thanks.
LEGALIZE KEI!!!!!
Agreed!
Did you have to take off part or all of the dashboard to get to it?
No need to disassemble the dash to get to the part.
Awesome work there my man!
Much appreciated!
Solid update on the mr2! My only advice is avoid gauge pillar pods. I had it in my sti and it made the pillar feel huge and decreased my visibility and I found myself losing sight of cones behind the pillar.
Thanks for the tip!
Cops will tell you that your license plate in the windshield will become deadly in a head-on collision against you or one of your passengers.
I agree that it can be a hazard in the event of an accident. I do not drive the car around with the license plate in the windshield. I just threw it there, so I do not lose it as I work on the car.
@@saladbar21 I did the same thing. lol
Running the same catch can on my MR2 (3sge though). It's never came loose on me and I've mounted it on the same place as you. These catch cans are not great at sealing so putting them onto the intake cause a vac leak. Got the same set up as you and it's been good for a few years. Would note that I'm not running a supercharged V6!
I appreciate the tip on them not sealing well. I may have to swap out to a different catch can down the road.
Supercharged mr2?
Yes, it’s a supercharged V6!
