If the AW11 would be in InitialD instead of the AE86 the prices of AW11 would be skyrocketing. I love the AW11 and the zzw30. If a new generation is coming, a test drive is sure!
aw11 owner and enthusiast for 26 years, love the things. Pure drivers car. I've only got 2 left out of 5 3/4 now which is sad, but those 2 give me the smiles I need. Also have a zzw30 spyder, just like a aw11 to drive but more refined.
It was deadly because it was cheap to buy and inssure in the us at the start of the 2010s. young teenagers would be a major share of owners. So they would crash them because they were teenagers. The car isn't the dangerous part it's the drivers.
When i was a kid growing up in the greater vancouver area in the late 90s i used to see a bright yellow one on the 6th street border between new westminister and burnaby with jdm wing and body kit and the loudest blow off valve for 98 way before it was cool
Interesting video, here in Denmark there are lots of 1st gen and 3rd gen MR2s but very few 2nd gen cars so I am surprised to learn that worldwide it was the 3rd gen which never caught on. Also never seen those early prototypes before, nor known that Toyota started work on the project in the 1970's already.
The second gen really was a cheap exotic. It’s fast, pretty, and raw. The best part is how it tries to kill you sometimes, just like real exotics. But actually as a second gen mr2 owner, If you’re looking to get one im happy to share that with a few key suspension mods you can practically eliminate snap oversteer for about a grand.
I absolutely love the MR2 but I'm just not sure if one would fit into the modern Toyota lineup considering development costs and time. Perhaps if they collaborated with another brand like they did with BMW for the Supra it could be more feasible.
Toyota's introduction of the G16E in the GR Yaris and Corolla could be a great opportunity for an MR2 comeback. Just take the engine and throw it in a lightweight, mid-engine, rwd platform!
Could you ever see the MR2 making a comeback in some form?
It's a possibility of happening but I don't see it happening in a few years
I buy Lotus Emira and i just consider it to be modern day MR2 and if toyota decided bringing back MR2 it should be liked this
No, because modern motorists seem to be determined to buy only the blandest, most tedious, identical-looking SUVs possible.

im looking at getting an aw11 as a first car as they arent very expensive here in germany. zzw30 are starting to become expensive tho.
@@happi6969 both quite expensive here in Australia.
I can confirm that the 3rd gen MR2 is not at all deadly, like people say the 2nd gen is. It is also just unreasonably fun to drive.
Yeah but it's ugly.
@@No-vq1iv how old are you? MK 1 MR2 is one of the coolest looking cars ever built. Objectively.
@@alexandermckenzie5077 He's talking about the 3rd gen MR2, learn to read.

Toyota came out with the concept for the second generation long before Ferrari released their car. The Ferrari was the rich man’s Toyota!
