- The car world is home to a number of different styles and shapes. However, if you wanted a silhouette that was quintessentially cool by design, you'd have to go for the wedge. And no car quite perfected the wedge like the Lotus Esprit. 20 years after the badge was put to the axe, we revisit the iconic sports car that would come to define Lotus for years to come.
Car Retrospective is the series where we look at cars of all shapes and sizes, of all backgrounds and nationalities- if it has at least three wheels and has an engine of some sort, it may appear. We uncover the true histories of some of our much loved cars, such as the Bugatti Veyron to the Audi Quattro, and from the Lamborghini Countach to the Ford Crown Vic. It's all here!

I gotta say as a South African who's going to be moving to the UK next year, this channel is invaluable in deciphering Yorkshire/Manchester accent. Every video becomes more and more understandable

I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned here, but damn was it a cool car.
Nice review. Im a big fan of the 2.2L 4 cylinder espirt and prefer it over the V8. The V8 just doesn't provide the performance gains needed to outweight the reduction in nimbleness you get from the 4. Now, had they spent their research dollars on fixing the transmission issue so they could unleash the full 500HP potential of the 8, i would not be saying that. Oh, well. I'd like to think they will at some point revive the Esprit but, very much agree that im glad they are not doing it under its current ownership.
It's amazing what a name can do.
You'd think most cars Lotus have build since would run rings around an Esprit. But it's the Esprit everyone yearns for.
While I do think models like the Elise and Exige have come close, they just don't have the longevity and stature of the Esprit name. I think the design is a big part of that!
@@JackohMotors the Esprit commands people's attention, even today. Especially an S4 V8 with all the gear on. An old friend had an S2 turbo with big wheels and an aero kit. It stopped people in their tracks.
Not many 2.2 4 cylinder cars have the same effect as a Diablo or Countach
@@matthewnicholas6365 It's 43 or so inches high, super wide and flat angles. There's just nothing else like it.
