Great review! I think ultimately it depends on the terrain you ride most often, and pick the bike suitable for that. There is a lot of hype on big long travel for ebikes which is somewhat true given that the presence of a motor eliminates a lot of the need to be as efficient as possible. But there is still an effect on agility and weight and if your regular terrain is usually tighter with flowy trails and all mountain terrain, my opinion is the trail bike is still the better pick
One option can do both the other finds its limits eventually, if you never take the bike to the limits it's Jam all the way . The Sam is an incredible bike .
Great vid Rob! I had a 38 170mm zeb fork on my first cube stereo 160 Hybrid SL 2021 and my buddy bought the 140 model and he was much more viable then me, especially in corners. Compared to his bike my bike had a much more bulky feel although it indeed rides like a carpet. So i sold my 160 model en bought the 140 TM 2022 with the 36 150mm fox fork. My men, the trails are a BLAST now. It made me way better in corners and is more playful overall. The enduro is not really a problem for such high quality 36 forks. What a sport!
My Cannondale is my do everything bike including occasional road or rail trail with different wheels etc. 200 mm boxers up front and 185 dpx rear. Bb height 362mm. Perfect
I really like the addition of USB type C port and a parts bag for puncture kit etc - I think all bikes should have provision for a small bag. What do you think about the really sharp angle of the front of the motor on both models ? It looks like it could do some damage if it hit anything.
Im not a fan of super slack head angles but I do like the burlier build of an enduro bike, especially because I weigh just over 100kg. I find that the Mondraker Crafty is a fantastic blend of enduro build and trail steering response. It still has a long reach and plenty of travel so it’s still very stable on steep terrain both climbing and descending but it still has that flickable steering feel that works great on windy singletrack. It also has a really efficient suspension design. It’s the best blend of trail and enduro that I have ridden to date. The bike that can do everything well.
Deferentially long travel enduro bike! Been riding Nicolai Eboxx with 180/180mm everywhere, bike parks, home trails, you name it. Bike can do it all. Ofc your need alot of speed to make it alive :D
Nice comparison between models and it shows that FOCUS have really thought about the application of each bike. How does the ride compare to the Whyte E160 and E180 which appear very similar in terms of intended use, price, motor orientation, battery size, and rear suspension design? Thanks 🙏
I have the giant rein e I love it enduro all the way for . I’m not worried about easier peddling uphill geometry. I love the slack feeling especially going downhill.I even keep the suspension a bit soft.
Sam2 6.9 is my dream bike ❤. Unfortunalety price is not achive. In Poland now price for version on 2023 is around 7,4Keur. Avg. salary is ~1,4Keur. Good luck !
Hi Rob, love the vids! I've been following you a while now :) Got my Trek rail 9 GX after watching a bunch of your vids a couple years ago now. Zebs all the way! Quick question: What's the name of the music starting at 02:28? Cheers.
3:33 have they introduced an angle into the shock placement? Or just turned it sideways and also offset the eyelet locations to the side of the yoke? Either way, jeeebus, that’s asking a lot of the shock isn’t it, haven’t they seen Specialized’s broken shocks?
Dear Rob, A great review as always! Thanks for it. Where in Spain did you do this review? Tbe trail looks like fun and I would like to ride them too. Thanks and best regards Christian
As my MX bike has around 300mm of travel I really like and need at the very least 180mm back and more on the front on the terrain and speed of the tracks I ride on my super enduro ebike, completely destroyed my last trail bike so won't be buying one anytime soon, If I could have 300mm of travel on my ebike I would
Hey man, I have a cube stereo hybrid 120 Race and I am planning to change to a Focus Jam2 7.8, but it comes with a shimano motor, do you think that is something to worry about?
It’s very low and too much forward… I’m sure - depending on terrain - it has clearance issues. I had a Giant Trance E+ with PWX-2 motor it was the same and I ended up selling it. I just couldn’t bunny hop a 25kg bike that easy… 😅
So In conclusion after that 10 minute video, the Trail focused bike works best on Trial focused rides whilst the Long Travel heavy hitting bike works best on heavy hitting downhill rides where you would need extra travel. What an insight. Its like they designed them that way!!!
I feel like you've just compared an Enduro bike and a downhill bike. For me a trail bike is something like the Orbea Rise... 160/150 with 64.5 HA is a trail bike? I don't think so.
Why does one have to be better? It just depends on what type of riding you do 90% of the time. So really it’s more click bait when you ask this..me I prefer a trail bike that’s over forked…can still ride all the trails I like, including blacks
@@zed5129 no its just personal preference. If you like to overload your cockpit with outdated nonsens shit control and dont care about it good for you. I like it clean and simple
All ur videos are a bit samey/boring same as the rest. Why not, since u say u like to mess about with them, do video sections of the engineering and build quality of the bikes by stripping parts and having a good look and comparing to others. Personally im having a bit of a nightmare with my exe and i think there might be a case to answer about some of them. Just my opinion.
I've been running my Jam2 for 4 years and I still absolutely love it.
Just bought one, and the anticipation of getting it is killing me - can't wait.

Yes. I'm always thinking I need the longest travel and most capable bike - but really it's too much for almost everything I do.
One option can do both the other finds its limits eventually, if you never take the bike to the limits it's Jam all the way . The Sam is an incredible bike .

Can easily watch your videos start to the very end.
Was a nice surprise that you enjoyed the shorter travel bike. I know you love slack long travel monster trucks 🤘
You're looking stylish on the bike there Rob 👍🏻
Great wee review there Rob, now can you do a back to back with the new Sam2 vs the old Sam2 🙂
It would be interesting to see how the SAM2 rides with the headset cups set to the 64.5 degree option. Perhaps will quicken up the steering
Long travel, coil shock, huge range and full power….Todd’s a happy rider!!
Deferentially long travel enduro bike! Been riding Nicolai Eboxx with 180/180mm everywhere, bike parks, home trails, you name it. Bike can do it all. Ofc your need alot of speed to make it alive :D
Your one of my favorite RUclipsr keep up the good work
My sentiments exactly Rob I'm with you another great review rob Keep them coming Cheers

Hi Rob. Excellent video and review. It's not the bike, it's the video that makes this bikes interesting. Where in Spain? Thanks.
I have the giant rein e I love it enduro all the way for . I’m not worried about easier peddling uphill geometry. I love the slack feeling especially going downhill.I even keep the suspension a bit soft.
I would choose the jam²
Sam2 6.9 is my dream bike ❤. Unfortunalety price is not achive. In Poland now price for version on 2023 is around 7,4Keur. Avg. salary is ~1,4Keur. Good luck !
Thank you for this great video. I just switched from Jam2 to the Sam2 an know excactly what you "feel" 🙂
I am also planning to switch to the Sam for more travel. I am 90 kg rider. What kind of environment do you ride mostly ?
Great work , mate !
Throw a coil shock on the rear and a coil conversion in the fork on the trail bike and have the best of both
nice vid. Would have liked you to make some comments about the Mavic Deemax wheels which clearly are not what you expect to see as OEM?
Hi Rob, love the vids! I've been following you a while now :) Got my Trek rail 9 GX after watching a bunch of your vids a couple years ago now. Zebs all the way! Quick question: What's the name of the music starting at 02:28? Cheers.
What was the weight of the jam square what was the weight difference
What kind of tube bag is that on the frame?
the perfect video doesnt exis.....
Which do you prefer the Giant Reign E + 2 or the Focus Sam 2?

Seems Tremp , in Lleida
what about the noise of the Fox rear shock on the JaM 2?
As my MX bike has around 300mm of travel I really like and need at the very least 180mm back and more on the front on the terrain and speed of the tracks I ride on my super enduro ebike, completely destroyed my last trail bike so won't be buying one anytime soon, If I could have 300mm of travel on my ebike I would
What was the weight of the Jam 2? thanks
Hey man, I have a cube stereo hybrid 120 Race and I am planning to change to a Focus Jam2 7.8, but it comes with a shimano motor, do you think that is something to worry about?
To me it is more semi enduro vs super enduro 😅
Hey how much are these cracking video 👍
Doubting about the both Bike. I like the Jam2, maybe the price difference will make me the choice, I m same size like u
Trail bike with Fox 36 and 63.5 HA ,what times we live in
Doesn´t the downside "triangle" - between Motor and frame - get in conflict with the underground? It looks weird by the way
It’s very low and too much forward… I’m sure - depending on terrain - it has clearance issues. I had a Giant Trance E+ with PWX-2 motor it was the same and I ended up selling it. I just couldn’t bunny hop a 25kg bike that easy… 😅
No mullet option on this sam2 😔 😢
Where in Spain is this?
Whereabouts in Spain is this filmed?
Santa Coloma de Farners. Amazing trails!
That's really close to home! Have been there thousands of times!! Just like heaven
What was the weight of the Jam, Sam was 26 kg for reference…
Approx 25KG - but I was unable to weigh it at the test location.
So In conclusion after that 10 minute video, the Trail focused bike works best on Trial focused rides whilst the Long Travel heavy hitting bike works best on heavy hitting downhill rides where you would need extra travel. What an insight. Its like they designed them that way!!!
Hey Rob, can you remember wille testing the bike, did you hear the bosch motor ratling? Thanks 😊
Yes
I feel like you've just compared an Enduro bike and a downhill bike. For me a trail bike is something like the Orbea Rise... 160/150 with 64.5 HA is a trail bike? I don't think so.
The sam puts the Jam on toast
If you struggle with uphill, or tire easily...trail wins by far. Enduro will wear you out.
Whereabouts in Spain was this?

Dialled the riding up to 11 there mate. I think I liked you better as a mincer like me... 🤣🤣🤣
To bring a bike out now without the new intube remote control. Dont know... woudnt buy it.
@@zed5129 no its just personal preference. If you like to overload your cockpit with outdated nonsens shit control and dont care about it good for you. I like it clean and simple
What do you mean i didnt win😭?
Whether an eBike is trail or Enduro focused, there is no excuse to not have 38 mm stanchioned fork on an E bike. None. Zero.
Weight???
@@tomhesse01 no
The fox 38 weighs 250 g more than the fox 36.

So you spent 10 minutes stating the obvious
OMG. FINALY ORIGINAL CONTENT........ OH WAIT ....... THIS HAS BEEN DONE AT LEAST 1000 TIMES LMAO
You’re welcome ☺️
