Putting in money with your friend when it's a crazy idea with a 10% potential to work is obviously very different from asking for money when you have a product ready to sell. It's the dragons role to push he just had zero push back because he was nervous and inexperienced.

If a business owner decides to give away part of their company at a 'cheaper' rate to an investor, thats their prerogative. It doesn't mean that the second invester is entitled to that same reduced price; even if they were to bring more value to the company. Debra and Theo seemed to percieve it as some sort of slight against them, but in an objective sense it isn't. If a landlord decides to up the rent rate of their property before leasing it out again to someone new, that person isn't entitled to demand the previous rate simply because someone else once had it cheaper in the past and their own biased perception of it being unfair. All Theo and Debra were really saying here was: "waa, you sold part of your company to someone for a lower rate, me me me I want that too, I don't like that you aren't offering that to me. You've made this uninivestable because I can't overcome my own perception bias of being undervalued".

For those who don’t know Duncan lost his sister as a young man I think round the age of 24 and he spiraled into depression and abusing alcohol and went to jail for being drunk and disorderly. He bought his first ice cream truck at 30 and went on to own about 9 and in three years time he bought and built his first nursing home and by the age of 37 owned multiple income producing properties and was a multi millionaire. I think Duncan understood this kid and maybe his pitch pulled on his heart strings in a way it didn’t for the other dragons. But moral of the story is never give up and it’s never too late to become somebody you just have to have the will and work ethic.
Like how Deborah homed in on that equity of friends and I had never heard the term sweat equity but it made sense. I hope his mum is on the mend now,. My heart goes out to young carers especially when they have had to leave education.

Depends, if he could make a deal with construction companies to put it as an option for new buildings, and give them a percentage to offer it as a thought to clients that build condos. 250 new buildings could have 10.000 orders if it would be on every apartment as an accessory. Plus he could have a market of individuals buying even as small as 5k per year. Let's say he sells it for 29.99 with a 60% margin that 450k in sales and with 250 thousand pounds of profit(approximately). But because he doesnt have the reach to such companies, and maybe the capability he probably would sell around 3-4 thousand pieces. And probably with lower squeezed price, so his margin at 30%. It probably made like 30k profit, but with tooling and inventory he probably was in the red for the first two years so he probably went out since he doesnt seem able to finance it. That is why you must be capable entrepreneur, I would never let a company run in such a failed way

What Deborah is saying is actually absolute rubbish. You don't have to have the exact same equivalent terms as every other investor at the various points in a companies life, all you have to do is get a good enough deal to warrant your investment at the time that you're making it, it doesn't matter what terms other parties invested under, what matters is whether it is worthwhile or not you investing now. And so it also doesn't matter if the company has 'moved on' or not, because the first investors might just have got a particularly good deal because the money was really needed and the business was in its infancy. Completely agree with Duncan here.

You don't have to have the exact same equivalent terms as every other investor at the various points in a companies life, all you have to do is get a good enough deal to warrant your investment at the time that you're making it, it doesn't matter what terms other parties invested under, what matters is whether it is worthwhile or not you investing now. And so it also doesn't matter if the company has 'moved on' or not, because the first investors might just have got a particularly good deal because the money was really needed and the business was in its infancy. Completely agree with Duncan here.
