    I really appreciate that you picked up on the fact that her attitude stems from the fact that not only did she lose her memory, but she was TRAINED to ignore her emotions while on a mission. So many critics of the character totally overlooked this and just commented on how she was unlikable, arrogant, etc.

    Christy the reason they got sucked out in space is because there's a vacuum (negative pressures) in space. Space ships have positive pressure to create an atmosphere so people can breathe without a mask/helmet. So when you puncture the spacecraft everything inside gets sucked out until the pressures equalize.
    Simple answer: its like when you shake a soda bottle (pressure inside increases) so when you open it the soda spills out until the pressures equalizes.

    • @blakewalker84120
      @blakewalker84120 5 месяцев назад +3

      Pretty close.
      Your answer is pretty good but the science is a little off.
      Space is not a "negative pressure".
      It's just zero.
      Zero pressure space cannot suck - it doesn't work like the vacuum cleaner that sucks dirt out of your carpet.
      Space doesn't suck you out.
      The air blows from the higher pressure interior to the 0 pressure through the hole.
      That blowing wind blows things out with it.
      So you're not really sucked out.
      You're blown out.

    The title, "Captain Marvel" has been held by numerous characters in the comics over the years, both male and female, and not all human. Carol is the most recent. Monica Rambeau (who appeared as Maria's daughter in this movie) had the job back in the '80s when I first encountered the character. The earliest was Mar-Vell, a male Kree military officer who turned against his masters (the inspiration for the Dr Lawson/Mar-Vell character in this movie). And there are others still.

    Captain Marvel was originally a male Kree named Mar Vell. Lawson in the movie is supposed to be a stand in for him. Carol Danvers was in the comics but she was not a hero. Good questions throughout your reaction.
    In the comics she was indeed Carol Danvers, but initially was an Air Force assistant to Mar-Vel (who was male). Jude Law's character (Yon-Rog) killed Mar-Vel seeking to steal a 'miracle machine'. Carol got her powers when Mar-Vel died saving her from the explosion of the machine, and transferred some of his power, along with some from the machine to her.
    Goose in the comics was actually named Chewbacca (or Chewie) by Carol from Star Wars. This movie changed the Flerken's name to Goose from Top Gun.
    Lastly, Goose has the power of pocket dimensions within him/her. And, Flerken's have intelligence equivalent to humans, but can't speak human languages. This is how Goose knew to follow both Carol and Fury, AND to not attack Talos while he was in Kree soldier form.

    • @TheArtOfLoss
      @TheArtOfLoss 6 месяцев назад +3

      I'm pretty sure Mar-Vell didn't die saving her, he died from cancer a couple of years later.
      Also, this origin has been changed in The Life of Captain Marvel (2019): she has powers because her Mom is Kree, and the explosion only awakened/enhanced her already existing powers.
      Abd both Goose and Chewy are female! Lawson says to Carol "Goose likes you, she doesn't typically takes to people".

    Since you asked, in the comics, Mar-Vell was Captain Marvel first -- and a male, Earth alias WALTER Lawson. Carol Danvers was originally his friend, a former USAF pilot turned security chief/public relations. She became the hero Ms. Marvel in similar circumstances to this movie -- Mar-Vell and Yon-Rogg were fighting near a Kree device, the device exploded, Carol got bombarded with energy.
    In the comics, Carol's original powers didn't include energy blasts -- she was super-strong, invulnerable, and could fly. Those powers were stolen from her by the character Rogue, who later joined the X-Men. Carol was later experimented on by aliens, which returned her powers plus adding the ability to control energy and survive in space. With these powers, she was as you see her in this film, but went first by the name Binary and then Warbird.
    Three other characters used the Captain Marvel name in the meantime, after Mar-Vell's death. No spoilers for now but you will see one of them in Phase 4. She finally took the Captain Marvel name in the comics because Captain America told her she had earned it following in her mentor's footsteps.

    Carol Danvers has a convoluted comic book history. She started out as Ms. Marvel. A female version of the already known male Kree warrior Mar-Vell, the first Captain Marvel.
    DC comics was threatening to make female versions of Marvel Characters in the 80s so Marvel protected Spider-Man by creating Spider-Woman, the Incredible Hulk, due to the popularity of the TV show, that caused them to create She-Hulk and Captain Marvel while not as popular still had Marvel in his name.
    Carol Danvers was an air force cadet who eventually achieved the rank of Colonel as an intelligence operative. She got her powers from a Kree device known as the Psyche Magnetron whose explosion bathed her in exotic particles that made her into a Human/Kree hybrid.
    She later went toe to toe with Rogue of the X-Men who, still new to her powers, stole Carol's powers and memories permanently. Powerless and amnesiac she joined up with the Star Jammers a crew of intergalactic pirates where she got new cosmic powers as the being known as Binary.
    Then comes back to earth when those powers start to malfunction. She joins the Avengers as the hero Warbird then eventually takes on the mantle of Captain Marvel. The MCU version is vastly different. 😂
    The Kree have already had interactions with the Guardians of the Galaxy in Volume 1. Korath the Pursuer was sent to retrieve the Power Orb on Morag and was prevented by Star Lord. Ronan the Accuser a Kree Zealot was the main villain in vol. 1. 😂

    "Captain Marvel" was originally a character from a different comics publishing company (Fawcett Comics) as early as the early 1940s. The character was eventually bought by DC Comics in '53 after DC sued Fawcett claiming the the character was too similar to Superman. They didn't really do much with the character after acquiring it. In the 60s, Marvel Comics began using the name for its own series of Captain Marvel stories. This became an issue for DC, so in the early 70s, they renamed the character "Shazam". Within Marvel Comics itself, the name "Captain Marvel" has been used by MANY characters, male and female since its introduction. Mar-Vell (a Kree male) was the first, Monica Rambeau (the little girl in this movie) was the second. Many more followed over the years. The seventh was Carol Danvers, who herself was already a superhero who went by the name Ms. Marvel, which is now used by a different character with different powers and backstory.
    The version of Carol and Captain Marvel in this movie is based is part on Mar-Vell (the original comics version), whilst other parts of the character were used for the movie version of Mar-Vell as well.

    Ok, I understand I’m late to the party on this one, but the story behind the Stan Lee cameo in this one is: Kevin Feige called Kevin Smith (Mallrats producer/director/writer) because Stan Lee was getting pretty old at this point, and his voice was really weak, and Feige asked Smith if they had any b-roll of Stan from the filming of the movie that they could dub over his actual cameo so he’d sound like the Stan we all know.
    The point of using Mallrats audio is to place the movie within its time period, since Stan would be rehearsing for it in the 90’s. It had nothing to do with his mental state or what he could recall or quote.
    Kevin Smith has literally told the story of how this happened on his podcast, and it’s not hard to find on this site.
    Side note: this movie is great, and I don’t understand the hate for much of the more recent MCU. It took me 10 years to really enjoy the first Cap movie or iron man 3, and Thor 2 is still pretty meh, but on the whole, Phase 4 was pretty good, but it’s hard to maintain consistent levels of mind blowing quality.
    Also, a lot of current criticism seems to be coming from a specific segment of the “fandom” who also didn’t care for this movie.

    Sweet! I love this movie 🌟 Captain Marvel is one of my favorite comic book characters ❤️ She was known as Ms Marvel when she was first created in the 70's. She got her powers from a Kree superhero named Mar'Vell, who was the OG Captain Marvel. After Mar'Vell died Carol took up the mantle of Captain Marvel. I think Brie Larson did an excellent job of playing Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel. Sadly though. This is the last Stan Lee cameo 😢💔 It was super cool how they put in the Mallrats reference. Mallrats is one of my favorite Kevin Smith movies. As always I loved your reaction Cristy. Next up! Avengers: Endgame 😬😆

In this case, the icy void of space. On a grim note, there has been some recent history where a jetliner passenger was... ended... by a hole in the window, creating a large pressure differential. BTW, it's been shown under controlled conditions that memory regression doesn't work as advertised, that it is likely to create fabricated memories by the power of suggestion. There are a handful of quack doctors who have gotten innocent people convicted of crimes because of so-called suppressed memories. No comment though on the science-fictional version of memory recovery as dramatized in this movie.
    The truth is that it is very rare that memories are suppressed. More likely, when someone experiences trauma, those memories become reinforced, instead of repressed, which is how you can end up with PTSD. I've seen experiments where memories were actually manufactured on purpose. Frequently, it's happened because of the incompetence of the therapist. Memories that are truly lost cannot be recovered.

This movie is set in the 90s and they do call it S.H.I.E.L.D. but in Iron Man which was present day at the time it was released, they were not using the acronim, they kept saying they have to find a different way of calling the agency instead of the long name

    I personally think the movie is fine, not one of my favorites but not nearly as bad as some people make it out to be. Worth watching at least once.
    I think one of the biggest detractors of the movie was the timing. Not only in that it broke up Infinity War and Endgame, but a lot of people saw it as them introducing an 11th hour hero to solve all the problems. Which was a fair concern, but then there were accusations of misogyny in response to the criticism. Particularly towards Brie Larson's comments but also in the marketing making a big deal about a female superhero when Black Widow has been there since Iron Man 2 and still hadn't had her own movie. If they had introduced Captain Marvel a few years earlier, maybe around the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, it probably would have been better received. Connecting Earth events with space elements along with nostalgia from Guardians music and showing Earth in the 90s. And Ronan being relevant in both movies.
    TLDR; The movie was fine, it was just released at the wrong time.

  • @rnkelly36
    @rnkelly36 6 месяцев назад

    Captain Marvel is just a name. There is an old history to all these characters you are watching and Capt. Marvel is one of the more confusing because it has changed so much over the years. Originally it was Captain Mar'Vell of the Kree Empire and he was a Kree male. That was in the 1960s and 70s. Carol Danvers was a character in the Mar'Vell comics. As the story changed she got the powers of Mar'Vell and became Ms Marvel and you saw her in Avengers comics. After time and more changes the Ms Marvel name went to other characters and Carol Danvers was gone in the comics. Around 2000 they brought back Carol Danvers and gave her the title Captain Marvel. The comics and the MCU are so different with their storylines. They pick from the past to make the stories they have in their movies.
    Also Marvel as a business has always been on the edge of what is socially acceptable. That is why you have such plain sounding names. You will notice that the names have a beat and a rhyme to them. This is because that is what was acceptable in comics written to kids. You can notice that in all comics DC comics included. Just think of all the fictional characters: Clark Kent, Bruce Wayne, Peter Parker, Bruce Banner, Tony Stark, Carol Danvers, Reid Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Blaze, and more. You would think all superheroes were boring mid western US people of British decent. This was also true for the comic book creators: Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Jerry Siegel. These were not their real names but the anglicized names so that the public would not see their Jewish heritage which was looked down on during that time in American culture. They knew the only way to create stories that the mass public would pick up and buy was to make the characters as normal middle USA as possible. Most of the stories are born out of Jewish mythology where Americans at the time were more use to Greek mythology that was studied in schools. Superman the most famous of all comic characters is almost a retelling of the story of Moses. Captain America is another Jewish hero fable turned into a comic for pre WWII propaganda. Comics have always been made to appeal to the mass audience and the early character names were really part of this sell.
