My grandmother sent me $5 with a birthday card in 1967 and I went right out and bought my first G.I Joe with it, and I got change from that 5-dollar bill! I really enjoyed this video that includes old commercials. Thanks! (Joe didn't survive the torture my little brothers put him through, but I got another one a few months ago, thanks to Ebay.)
Incredible figure. My ten year old son asked me why toys are not like this anymore. I told him when these toys were released, '60s, there were no "card-based" games imported from Japan, there were no gaming systems, and the closest thing kids had to an action figure were little green army men. He asked if they still sell GI Joe in stores because he would like a toy he could be rough with and play outside with. I told him, sadly, no. I told him I have some in storage. His eyes lit up. Thank you for these awesome videos!
As a kid in the 1960s and a big G.I. Joe fan, I should say that we kids were unaware of the Green Berets' activities or the course of the war in Vietnam. (That was The News, which Dad watched and which didn't interest us kids!) We were raised on stories and TV shows about World War II. That was the war we imagined when we got together to play with our G.I. Joes.
Wonderful Tony. I am 62 so I so appreciate your presentations. Highest quality!! I have some original 60s figures and reproductions of almost every set. I'm proud of the fact that my eldest son is a collector of 12" figures as well, among others. Thank you again. 🙏😊
I finally added a Green Beret G.I. Joe to my collection recently. It’s now my favorite figure! I’m annoyed that it took me this long to get into the different uniform sets. I’ve always preferred keeping them with their original uniforms until recently.
I’ve been collecting vintage GI Joes since 1986 and proud to say I put together a 11 man Green Beret A Team. One of the Joe Green Berets my WWII veteran Dad bought for me in 1967.
I had a G.I.JOE Green Beret. I buried him in my yard when my cousin Charles, 3 SF died in Vietnam. Wish l hadnt.

Rip ypur cousin and your GI joe
Great series Tony! 61 years old and remember vividly the GI Joes of the 60's. Keep up the good work with memory lane.
Edward Enslinger thank you
Really brings back so many memories. I got my GI joe back in 1964 when I was 9yrs old, I'm 69 now
Man it looks like these were built with such great quality. The detail is amazing, the uniforms look convincing, the weapons are super accurate.
I loved my GI Joes as a kid in the 60s. We didn't have a lot of money so my collection was limited. They really were good quality but the barrels of rifles got broken. You should see the mess kit and silverware. I wish I would have kept mine but they were very heavily used and broken. The backpacks were amazing. The tent too.
I have one and today I brought him out and put him on display.
It's sad how much toy quality has dropped in the last 50 years. These figures are works of art compared to what is available on the shelves today. Great video Tony!
Darkglobe1977 yeah, I’m looking for an original but all I’ve found are $40-60 /:
I grew up with the Adventure Team but this is the single painted hair era Joe I really want. Such an awesome figure.
I picked one up at Christmas for £90. Not a bad price I thought because they're so loved and collected. Some collectors have four or more in their collections! !!!!
Thank you for putting life to the Joe's with that acting out the Green Beret song!
We’ll… for Christmas 1966 , I asked Santa for GI Joe Sea-sled , but instead got Green Beret . At first I was disappointed …But soon I loved it. Thank You Mom 😊
Thank you so much for posting this episode on the Green Beret figure. Your videos are always so well done and you keep improving. Cheers from the UK.
Growing up with such a hi quality and extremely well done items made a boy used to craftmanshift and as an adult he doesn't appreciate poor manufactured tools and dresses or cheap made items these toys refines the tastes of childs
Wonderful tribute. 👍
SAS Action Man
I had the SAS parachute.
Unfortunately he suffered a serious accident and his head came off. (Noooo)
But with a little glue he soldiers on.
Mine was the British S.A.S. GI Joe figure back in 1996. Countless hours playing with it indoors and outdoors when I was a kid.
A nice legacy was that the Green Beret G. I. Joe figure became the basis for the General Joe Colton of the G. I. Joe: A Real American Hero line.
Outstanding review, just great, that Green Beret song is just so inspiring, just about the best GI Joe made, nice job!!
TheSkullReviews thanks so much!
I am a G.I. Joe kid one of my favorite toys of all time
The fact that you could change the outfits make your own 1000's of ways to enjoy this toy
We made shoots gliders and more

Absolutely fantastic, detailed work, as we've become accustomed to on this channel.

I’m 13 and I’m obsessed with these
Great figures you wont see that kindof detailed quality again great video
As usual thanks for posting another excellent video & GI Joe review from you!
You knocked it out of the park every single time with your choice of music. I recently watched your Action Man Documentary and the music Just blew me away. The entire documentary was amazing but, like John Williams' scores, your music elevates your videos.
What a coincidence! I actually got my vintage Green Beret uniform delivered today, just the beret is needed to complete it! Bit pointless me doing a review now! Damn you Tony! lol Great video!
the gaming toy boy I’d still like to see your review of this great toy!
Analog Toys . Well i think i'd probably just be repeating alot of what you've said here but i'll give it some thought and probably take another look at your review and see if i can make something a bit different! We'll see! :) i still need a beret yet and those are hard to come by so....
Another awesome video - many thanks for posting 😎😎😎
Awesome review Tony! Great Job!
This was such a great video! Thank you!
Cool Gi Joes ill be getting every single Gi Joe that exists in the future and i like how you showed Barbie in this video
Green Beret SSGT Barry Sadler singing "The Ballad Of The Green Berets"!
great review, gretings from Mexico.
Excellent review! Let's not forget that this figure went on to be the great Joseph B. Colton, [G.I. Joe himself] in the ARAH product line.
Thanks for that episode Tony. This old airman teared up just a bit...
Your videos just get better and better. Nice work tony
Well done 👏 i really like the ballad of the green berets montage good stuff i definitely want to add this figure toy collection

Great vid, as always!
Top notch video...i salute you!!
Excellent!
The Green Beret outfit with the mortar sold by Sears and Roebucks (in Pittsburgh) had a green field jacket that had YELLOW CLOTH SGT STRIPES, like the Australian Jacket . . Most green beret outfits had paper stripes, like those that came with the original Army figure. i have , the 5 different GB outfits, The 1st brown, the 2nd green field jacket, 3rd the field jacket with stripes, 4th, the tiger stripe camo shirt and pants, and 5th tiger camo pants with olive tee shirt.
Excellent video
My brother had one with had the with the parachute, He played with him till it fell apart.
thank you for making good content.
Hoorah!!
i cried during the song.
Nicely detailed video on G. I. Joe's Green Beret! Hope you'll consider Hasbro's G. I. Joe figures based on celebrities like John F. Kennedy, Bob Hope, General Douglas MacArthur & others.
great video
Estupendo video
Action man (gi joe) was a more civilised toy for a simpler time. A proper army toy with real accuracy.
Too bad, the original GI Joe went from more “military” to “adventurer”. But still many still many great memories with this guy. I still have my bearded jungle Adventurer, with box, from ‘73. He’s my most cherished possession.
“who jump and die”
sounds like something that happens to me in minecraft alot
I can't help hearing the song in Karl the greenskeeper's voice.
What beautifull toy are today from 1962---2022 I am owner of 50 1964 GI JOE action figure
double like
Hi Tony. Are you sure about that supposed "early version" of the Green Beret in the Action Soldier fatigues? Are you sure it wasn't just a Hasbro mock up/prototype for the eventual uniform? It's just that I have never heard or seen of this anywhere other than in your video. No GI Joe collector I know has heard of it and no GI Joe reference book mentions it not even the ones from the leading Joe experts James De Simone and Derryl DePriest.
Indeed DePriest's book even has a very exhaustive chapter illustrating variations across the entire GI Joe range, right down to minor colour variations in fabrics or differences in the moulding on the soles of boots. He goes into such exhaustive detail over such minor variations on kit, one would think that this dramatically different version of the Green Beret set would get a mention.
Like I say, this is totally new to me so I'd be keen to know what is your source for this is Tony?
Thanks and keep up the good work!
EDIT: I'll reply to my own question. I've done a bit of digging and found that there was indeed a version of the Green Beret issued like that. When sealed boxed versions have turned up they have a coupon for the Jewel Home Shopping Service in them, indicating that this may have been an exclusive through that company. I'm amazed that someone like De Priest and DeSimone didn't even mention this in their books..
Wow! Every day in this hobby is like a new day at school.
First lesson.: Method of instruction. If you cant teach, you cannot carry the mission, just go on back to your Leg unit.

Tony, what about Captain Action?
Awesome as always Tony, use to have a knock off and it let always wanting an original but they are expensive 😔
I got this green beret figure
i just bought a gi joe military mp collector's edition
Hi how many different outfits did the sears set. The camouflage shirt came with front pockets
Been looking into the first action figure 1964. Any suggestions? I need one of these epic toys but witch one
The Green Beret uniform and figure does look really nice. Wish Palitoy had released some more of those playsets for Action Man that GI Joe got. Space Capsules, fighter jets and the like. How cool would it have been to have an Action Man-scaled Spitfire for the Battle of Britain pilot? Or a fighter jet for some of the more modern pilot figures? But even things like a machine gun nest, or mountaineering basecamp would have been really cool and enhanced Action Man's play value.
Do you have any plans to review some of the bizarre versions of Action Man? Like Bullet Man, Atomic Man and Tom Stone? Or the Space Patrol line up, which included Captain Zargon, and Rom the Space Knight?
Not as cool as a Royal Parachute Regiment or SAS Action Man, obviously 😈.
Palitoy did actually produce a Space Capsule, a machine gun nest and a mountaineering base camp for the Action Man line.
I would like to review the whole Action Man Team (Bullet Man, Atomic Man, Tom Stone & The Intruder) in a big combined review but because I already covered these toys in "The Story of Action Man" documentary so I need to come up with a unique way of reviewing them again without repeating myself.
The Space Rangers is also something that I've already covered in my documentary however, they will be making an appearance in an upcoming Action Force toy review so stay tuned!
Analog Toys Ah. Well, it's entirely probable I completely missed those, as I came to Action Man very late in his run. In fact, I think the majority of my figures and accessories were all leftover stock that various toyshops still hadn't sold. But regardless, I loved him, and he was a massive part of my childhood.
Incidentally, I posted a link to part one of your Story of Action Man documentary on RetroBlasting's Facebook page - they liked it, and immediately watched parts two and three.
It is difficult trying to find new things to say about some of the other figures they introduced into the Action Man line-up without repeating yourself. I'd be tempted to get a few friends, or vintage Action Man collectors together, hand them a few of the classic figures to get their memories and reactions, and then some of the more unusual offerings that Palitoy came out with, so they could discuss how the line-up changed. Might work quite well.
It'd also be quite interesting to give Action Man to some present-day kids, to see their take on him.
how dare u say tom stone is bizarre his face is like that cause hes african
have you seen u.k. money supermarket action man tv advert
Yes, and I hated it!
@@AnalogToys agreed....they made him totally camp. Ridiculous advert.
i have to it was ok, i was worried about how they made the different mouths when he talked at the start...
This is cultural history imo
Was that an original '59 Barbie?
👍👌🇺🇲
Mom weres the credit card
Ok this was a good video... until the ante was upped towards the end by the video and music hommage.... I mean, wow. Just... wow. An unexpectedly good and emotionally powerful film section ending an action figure review with the real emotions felt by families with servicemen and women in their midsts.
Barbie will marrie him!!! 😂
