In 1965 I got my first GI Joe, an Action Soldier. My mother dumped my toys when I became a teenager because she deemed it time to throw away boy things--but at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego in the summer of 1975 GI Joe was one of the first aid training devices. In 2004 while on R&R from Operation Iraqi Freedom II I attended the GI Joe Collectors Club Convention held at Walt Disney World's Contemporary Resort and met Don Levine in person.

Got my first one for Christmas in 1965 Action Soldier that my Mom got me from Topps department store. My late Mother In Law worked on M1 Garands at the Springfield Armory during the war. She gave me some blueprints which I still have.

I absolutely LOVED my GI Joe. Sometime during his lifetime mine broke his arm at the bicep - try as he might, my father couldn't get that slick plastic to glue back together again. So I ended up with a 1-armed GI Joe. Until THAT day - you know the one. I was away at summer camp and my parents had a yard sale, and felt I was getting too old for 'dolls'. All I have left now is the footlocker and the backpack. And I'd drilled bullet holes into the footlocker with my cub scout knife.

Started collecting in the 1990's. My original 4 became 150 and a pile of stuff. Sold off the mint stuff, but holding onto the rare stuff and still have 100. I am getting old so I need to get back on the selling wagon.

I got my first GI Joe in 1965 at age 7 and I loved it at first sight. My favorites were the German and Russian. I had short films of me playing with my Russian Joe in 1968, and I submittted it to the makers of this film and they used it. My name is even in the credits at the end., It only lasts a few seconds and is not in this part 1. But if anyone has the entire documentary, the kid holding up the Russian Joe to the camera was me in 1968 !

I grew up in the 1970's. I just missed the 12 inch Joes. I had a Black GI Joe with Kung-Fu grip. I wanted the Mike Power, Atomic Man figure, even though I had a Six Million Dollar Man action figure. I even had a Bulletman, The Human Bullet figure!
