The glory days of toys when the manufacturers gave you the parts and pieces to make your own adventure... today everything has to be its own figure or a repaint with the exact same stuff included.
I'm honored to have been from such a creative era of toys. Watching your videos, reading your subscribers comments always puts me in a great mood. Long live Analog Toys!
The customizability of these International Heroes is stunning. The fact that customizing was so much a part of the play pattern with Action Man/G.I. Joe almost seems unique. I don't remember many other toy lines where customization was encouraged by manufacturers and their creating retail product to accomplish it. Another excellent and informative video, Tony.
Some of my earliest memories in life, let alone toy memories is getting some of these sets! Pure nostalgia, but also showcases the quality of these items! Thanks for making the video, Tony!
I love what you have done with the UN Peacekeeper. Maybe one day I will try and obtain an Action Man and emulate your design. Great history lesson for me in this line.i am always a sucker for all things Foreign Legion, so a modern Legionnaire would have been awesome!
It’s great to see these figures again. I had four Action Men in the early 1980’s with various outfits. My favourite was a British guardsman uniform. It came with a bearskin hat, but after watching ‘Zulu’ I tried to fashion my own pith helmet out of paper to make him look like one of the defenders of Rorke’s Drift! That UN soldier looks great, but I would ditch the UN bollocks and give him a British beret! In that tropical service dress with the SLR he could be a British soldier in Aden circa 1967! 👍🏻
Thanks for another great video it’s amazing what memories you have triggered. I had forgotten the small clips (which I recall were very fiddly to attach) on the parachute harness. Great times throwing my Red Devil from the top of the playground slide! I also think I can recall the smell of the tank commander jacket!
I could see the MG42 & MP44 with some future " elite "German releases. As you already noted, it is a shame they never got to production. I love all the additional accessories you added and the details you made sure mated well together. Awesome. Outstanding video, Tony.
Some beautiful customs there Tony. I had the Afrika Korps uniform, he was my Cherilea Panzer commander. The German Para and the US Marine. I love how you have made these really come alive with the addition of the accessories. And that gators trick for the UN figure is genius mate! Action Man really IS the best. Another ace video my friend. Excellent mate.
Myself and my brother had alot of Action Man kit during the 70s an absolutely iconic doll /figure great uniforms of the world. We had the following: Scuba diver Deep sea diver German stormtrooper German officer (Colditz) French Legionnaire French resistance fighter Incredible detail .
Remember the German para and africa corps uniform. As for the u.n uniform, the Brent gun ? The barrel would suggest it's the lmg due to the slim flas eliminator . I do remember something called gyper man or on that lines possibly for overseas sales . The one vehicle I always wanted was the landrover. I never got one .
Our house used to look down upon a closed down Catholic school. From my attic bedroom in the three story terrace, I could look down and see two action men left on the roof. I managed to climb on the roof and get them. The wall around the school had broken glass on top set into the concrete, I had to lay a towel across it to climb over it. I felt like a real commando on that mission. 😂
I spent a lot of time and money sourcing mint examples of selected International series and really glad I did. I have the German Para kitted out with the brown webbing which is accurate to the Fallschirmjager but not the pouches matching the MP40 but oh well.
WOW absolutely blew me away watching this I was a huge fan of action man in the late 70's to early 80's I had Tom Stone the first black action man. I had the atomic man which I think was a rip off of the six million dollar man. I was still collecting and playing up to the age of 12 maybe 13. My friend next door was a huge fan also. I remember saving up the red stars and you used to get a basic action man through the post. The look the postman gave my mom handing a plane 13 inch box over lol. Really enjoyed the video. Thankyou 👍
This brings back memories, I had the German paratrooper, the UN uniform and also the US paratrooper uniform. I've often thought about collecting a few for nostalgias sake, but it's too expensive where I'm living now as Action Man products are very expensive on ebay and the shipping is almost the same price as the item. I'm not paying out hundreds of dollars for something I could buy for a few quid at a flea market in the UK. Although I did manage to pick up one eagle eyed Action Man amongst all the GI Joes in my local antique shop.
Nostalgia. I remember a friend having the German soldier figure in about 1972 or 1973 and I had the British Commando(?). We were about 7 years old. I couldn't understand why he wanted the German as we are Welsh. Fast forward to the 1990s, he moved to Germany and married a German so maybe he knew something back in the day. Like I said NOSTALGIA. Thanks for the video.
Great Videos 😊 I was born in 1972 and my cousin was a few years older…. I was 3 3/4 kid mostly Star Wars but I did love the 12 inch GI Joe line but didn’t have a lot of those but my cousin did but he was a jerk and wouldn’t let me play with them. Sadly he passed away in his 40’s and not long after his mom passed also and my Mom and I had to deal with the estate and I remember going into his childhood room and finding his old 1960’s GI Joes way back in his closet and taking them home were they still are today hopefully he’s ok with that.
My thoughts on space ranger were as yours. Use stock. Stocking filler. A release for a sadly failing line. This video again shows the quality and love the creators put into this toy line. It is the superior toy line for and when presented in your style appears timeless. Keep up the good work.
7.62 LMG fondly remembered. Specially it’s 30 round mag fitted on the SLR, and worked well ( no stoppages) even without beefed up springs for magazine.
Every time I show my action figures and models to my parents they complain about the size being too small. Now I can see why these damn models were huge! And had a lot of charisma and character! I wish action figures still had this attention to detail! Switching their uniforms whenever you felt like it! Even have a lazy soldier! Wow I might have to start collecting these now.
Used to have the WW2 German soldier , French resistance , Ski patrol , U.S uniform with a cape and many more . Given away many moons ago l,m sad to say . Never realised how rare and collectable they would become all these years later . Does anyone remember "Tommy Gunn" the British version of action man ?
What a stunning video, Tony! Thank you for this fantastic fix of nostalgia. Action Man was my first real toy love, just before Star Wars appeared. Can't believe your depth of knowledge on this subject. This line looks superb and your video really shows them off. Never heard of them before. Were they released as part of the 40th Anniversary? I don't think they were. Shame that foreign legion one never saw a release.
Amazing info and vid. Right regrettably as a teen, I had accumulated over 20 action men and a few GI Joes with fixed hands, gripping hands, eagle eyes etc. had a couple of talking ones too. Had nearly everything being spoilt kids, Hamleys and Harrods toy dept, the word ‘No’ never existed in my family lol. So you can imagine how much stuff I had, jeeps, tank, motorcycle, sea wolf sub, helicopter, training towers, nearly most of the blister packs of equipment, weapons, uniforms, sent off for so much stuff with the stars collections, dog, century box etc etc. The equipment that worked and classed as dangerous now- the bazooka shooting my mothers cigarettes out, mortar too lol. We shot all the figures with a .410 shotgun, blowing them to pieces, set things on fire and literally was chucking handfuls of equipment, accessories, uniforms, everything, burnt the lot. Looking back, what a twat! Utter and total P narse!
It is weird how the latest Action Man sets (The small ones, not the Deluxe) seem to have this same feel. They really need just a few accessories to make them shine (a few pieces from my old kit and the Officer Candidate is a UNIT soldier from the Tom Baker/Jon Pertwee era of Dr. Who). This makes sense when you have a lot of older sets and parts to pull from, but to do it now just send people off to other places to make it work.
A long time ago, both of my brothers had a pretty thorough collection of these figures and boxes of accessories. I called them their "Barbie Dolls" which did not please them. Whenever possible I would snatch my sister's pink plastic Barbie car and put two of my brothers' figures hugging each other in it. Yeah, it was cruel, but I considered them a colossal waste of time and money, which was in short supply at the time.
Wow what a video I have all my Action Man stuff still but some figures have lost their heads which I have still any ideas how I can repair them ie reattach their heads? Many thanks
Just got the bit's together to make the British paratrooper that is in that picture. Because recently i watched a old war movie. The para's and some was wearing olive green overall over their uniforms. Now I need a head with a ginger moustache. For the sergeant. Can you here the bagpipe's sir.

Action Man IS back though! They even released 7 new figures this year! Soldier, Marine, Officer Cadet, Pilot, Night Ops, Freeze Force and Deluxe Soldier
I have 2 comments 1.for the Russian why not use The Action Man Kalashnikov Machine Gun from the equipment center it looks like a Russian PKM 2. for the UN peacekeeper they look like Dutch peacekeepers who operated in Lebanon in the 1980s ruclips.net/video/bgm43E87qbA/видео.html
I have 2 comments 1. The Russian PKM was first introduced in 1961 and definitely not available for use during WW2 2. Many nations have troops who have served with the UN. Perhaps they also look like the Irish soldiers who were at the Siege of Jadotville.
@@AnalogToys 1. In my personal opinion the Russian can work as soviet forces for the cold war and ww2 so that's why I think it would work. it would be cool to make a custom cold war soviet Infantry . 2. I don't know how long the dutch were in Lebanon I think first in 1978 but I think it was likely in the news when they were designing the UN Peacekeeper I know there were some BBC specials on about Lebanon at the time
these new action man are shite compared to the 1990s. action man is dead and now cheap and poorly made. they axed the best toy ever and destroyed it, only to reappear with trash
I still cant believe how excellent these toys are even after all this time. The details and attention on the uniforms are outstanding.
