dont think ive seen him smile before, he was always all buisiness every time ive seen anything of him, its hard to believe he was so young too...growing up i always thought he was a much older man but he was early 30s during his fight...what a leader...what a man
What an amazing, caring and giving man he was. He gave so much of himself, and so tragic how he was so violently killed. Given his message was of non-violence and brotherhood. He will always be remembered.🌹🙏
@R A R I understand your frustration as a staunch Republican. However, don't contradict yourself in believing that the term "racism" isn't a general term, whereas the terms or term "white supremacy" isn't. "White supremacy" is the inherent belief that the white race is superior to the to other races, which has been a historical fact. And if there's any stronger definition for the word Marxism, it would be the idealogy of white supremacy, not the black race or black Panther, as you mentioned. And if Blacks or the black Panthers ever turned towards Marxism, which isn't historically true, it would be only because their own American Democratic system has failed them, enslaving and marginalizing them.
Dr.King you're deeply missed! I wish that you were here now. :-( I love how Dr.King had a great sense of humor, despite what was going on surrounding him. I miss him :-( God bless Dr.king and his family. 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗
Thank God for this great man and the great work he did while upon the earth. The Lord endowed him with wisdom and courage far beyond his years to fulfill his great mission. He is truly loved and missed. Jesus died young too but he accomplished his mission. MLK is a rare jewel in the Lord's crown. I can hear the Lord saying, "Well done my good and faithful servant."
God wanted him home ,Martin was a great man a once in a lifetime type of man . Martin you are in heaven with God and your wife. As Jesus said greater love has no man than he may his life down for his friends
Actually, this was on the Carson show early in 1968. Harry Belafonte was guest hosting during this time. This may be the only existing clip from this episode, as so many videotapes from this period were erased.
shows the kind of generation we're living in also. this guy was in his early 20s and leading masses of folks twice and triple his age. listen at how mature he sounded even when telling a joke. wow..
Imagine having the ability to tell a joke and laugh knowing that the government and a large majority of the nation, the Caucasian part of the nation, is against you and that it will soon lead to a violent death for you. That requires a lot of strength and to truly have the peace of the Creator.
He knew how to talk and say the right thing that is the kind of person we need now to give us hope and not that Trump who does not do any of that he just makes you feel bad and down we do not need Trump who does that to everyone
He is the best! He is a top notch comedian and well informed in all aspects of life. He can be a scientist, a poet, a writer, an economist, a mathematician, a strategist, a philosopher, a psychologist and a theologian. I love to see him laughing and ease the heavy burden he has been carrying for all humanity.
@@mousearebec only a few minutes of it exists. There is another portion where he talks about conquering the fear of death. Much of it was erased by NBC as most networks did in those days as videotape was expensive.
There are some other clips of MLK on this show---they have played them on occasion or at least they used to. MLK may have been on the Parr show too, but don't quote me...
My only comment is that the "joke" was not told on the Mike Douglas Show, but on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson just months before he died. The clip was also used in Carson's 25th Anniversary special.
@LeeAndrewWrightJr I'm pretty sure he had a bachelor of divinity and got his PHD from Boston University. He really was a preacher and a doctor, as far as I know
@CaMaverick Most things there are user edited anyway, so I doubt that'd help. I do know most Carson Tonight Show episodes prior to 1971-72 are now long gone.
@CaMaverick Tavis Smiley had Harry Belafonte on his show (in 2008?) and Belafonte talked about this interview. I can't add a link to this comment, but the interview is up on the PBS RUclips page.
@calmdown504 I'm not sure what you are saying, but I'll add "MLK did NOT hate white folks". He believed and preached about unconditional love and the Brotherhood of ALL men. Peace and Love, not war and hate.

@@فهدالشمري-ذ2د4غ I flew out of Washington this afternoon and as soon as we started out they notified us that the plane had "mechanical difficulties," and that kept us on the ground a good while. A lot of it's just old technologial issues. Some of the old film is just too damaged to be restored...and even some new film too - for example, when the WWE bought WCW in 2001, they went through the WCW Tape library of 1991-2001 and found that half their master tapes were in such bad quality, they never re-released the shows. This was stuff I watched live in high school, mind you.
Will be thinking of you tomorrow Doctor King....you can do it, so can the rest of America to bring down this war machine and start caring for our country itself. NO IRAN WAR DAGNABBIT!!!
The tax structure has to do with whether we are better off in many arena. The welfare state argument is silly since most of the wealth is owned by the top 10% of the rich. Having a social safety net is agreed upon even by Rep. Ryan. Now, we should eliminate waste and corruption in welfare, but not ban it completely from those that need it.
@GimpSuit99 Obviously, you don't know all that much about history since the economy in the 1950's and the 1960's had much more taxation on the wealthy. The country is worse now in certain areas. Also, the country is better now than back then (like lynchings, police bruality being more overt back then, sexual suppression, etc.). King wasn't some Communist although he wasn't a perfect human being. Also, corporate crimes and reactionary policies have contributed to the problems in the USA.
King was killed by a government and a federal bureau. King was not on any political side. He was very well aware of the obvious racism of the right wing and the subtle racism of the left wing.
Red baiting rhetoric about social justice is silly. Social justice simply means that a human being has the right to exist in equality within the framework of justice. That isn't a sin. Slandering King as being a Communist is old since King condemned Communism explicitly. Telling the truth that J. Edgar Hoover was a lying, slandering, and civil liberties violating hypocrite is a reality.
u started off good, then your own ignorance shined through; people - teach their kids racism. of ALL types and colors. your statement only fuels the fire and calls into question your sincerity about not being as racist as these folks u describe.

Theres a video with Ali and Mlk together answering some questions and Muhammed Ali makes King laugh more than I've ever seen before
I love the fact that he had such a great sense of humor despite the fact he had faced adversity.
That smile.
Yesssss!
Ain't it nice to hear this man just bring relaxed and enjoying some lighthearted moments.😄
WOW does he have a great voice

I can proudly say I have lived among giants! REST Dr. King. No one deserves it more than you.
A beautiful man with a kind and humble heart.. Not many like that this day and age.
Among many things he had a great sense of humor. I could listen to him 24/7.

Wish I could’ve met Dr. King! Amazing
Truthfully there is not one man who'd have the right to criticize this true man of God, the greatest American.
Inspite of the corruptness of white supremacy, he's always had a grt sense of humor.

Love this man. Truly my hero.
When I die and if I make it to Heaven he’s one of the first people I’m looking for
If you believe in Jesus as your lord and savior and repent your sins you will be saved.
This is only the second video I've seen of MLK Jr laughing and/ or showing his sense of humor. Both have been on RUclips.
I'd love to see more.
It’s charming to me that dr king found this joke to be very funny, you could tell it’s his first time saying it out loud to someone…😊
I feel good when he’s in a happy mood. Seldom do I see him smiling. The tortured face is what I see. Bless you for a few laughs ?

his voice kind of reminds me of orson welles, very deep strong and commanding
