RIP our Judith she had the voice of an Angel.❤
RIP Judith, never forgotten.
They are an Australian group singing about Australia's historical human beginnings and our multicultural nation today. This song is like a second national anthem for Australians. They were the most successful Australian group in the sixties. They had number one hits in the United Kingdom, the US and Australia. They even displaced the Beatles at the top of the music charts.
The Seekers are an Australian National Treasure that had many international and worldwide musical hits, were contemporaries of the Beatles and the Rolling stones sharing the British pop music charts with them and even replacing them at Number One at times in the swinging sixties. The Seekers have also released hit singles and albums in every decade from the sixties through to the 2000s. Their concert in Melbourne during the 1970s still has the highest attendance numbers for any concert ever in the Southern Hemisphere.
Many Australians believe that this song should be Australia's Official National Anthem as it is already an unofficial National Anthem for most Australians. The male lead singer was one of the two joint authors of this song.
You just heard the voice of the angels, lady! Judith Durham could out sing any woman on the planet in her prime, which is why she was regarded as an Australian national treasure. No purer voice will I ever hear, until the angels call me. I will know it when I hear it. Peace to you.
Don’t understand how you think they are American.
They are an iconic Australian band singing about being Australian.
Because she never pauses and talks over things, so she misses things
Dont insult us by saying this comes from America. They are Australian International stars that have been singing together since the 60's
@@Quasnob What? I realise that the US thinks it is the centre of the universe but they are late coming to the Folk party. There is evidence of folk music (The Hurrian Hymn) as far back as 3400 years. I can't think of a Cultural group anywhere that hasn't had a folk music tradition, most of them before the USA existed. Mate. Have a good day.
@@KW-987 Ok mate..all good...no worries.
@@Quasnob Folk music is European, English, Scottish, Irish originally!
@@jacquiebee4715 I don't care I'm Australian.
She is Spanish and a young girl How would she know?
"I am, you are, we are Australian" This is an Australian band singing about being Australian. What part of this reminds you of America? They are singing the history of Australia.
> First part is about the first Australians, the native people who were here.
>Second part is about the convicts dumped here by Brittan.
>Famous people such as Albert Namatjira, a native painter; and Ned Kelly an infamous bush ranger/outlaw.
>The Gold rush, the depression.
I suggest looking up each part as a video to react to so you understand the song a little better.
You need to look into American history if you can’t see the similarities. We were both occupied by a first people’s, we both were penal colonies, our native peoples both achieved great things within white society, we both had bush rangers (outlaws), we both had gold rushes, we both struggled to farm back in the day, we were both colonies of England.😅
@@petrichor3947 That isn't what she was saying or what I was referring too. Somehow the band felt to her to be American. I didn't put it well.
@@joandsarah77 my apologies I take your point.🙂
They're an Aussie group formed in the 60s .
Judith suffered from lung disease her entire life. Her total lung capacity was about half a normal lung. She had that wonderful voice.
I could never figure out how someone with such a beautiful voice and vocal range as Judith's could have had lung disease yet one can clearly see that in the last decades of her life she clearly was suffering the worst affects of the illness. She is my all time favorite female vocalist ❤
thanks, yes they are Australian. Listen to "I'll Never Find Another You" and "The Carnival is Over" Judith Durham just passed away not long ago. They were in their 70's in this performance
They are from Melbourne and were huge in the 1960's with many #1 hits.
How in the hell can you confuse an Australian band singing about Australian history with America ? I can't believe you said that. Perhaps try listening instead of talking over the song. WoW just WoW ?
Why the nastiness? This is a reaction channel, not a music appreciation channel. If you don't like her sense of awe, wonder and discovery, then bugger off. There is a huge difference between helping someone in a different country learn and grow, from being abrupt and nasty with your comments.
Lol 😂
It is annoying when they do that but i think she is a newbie!
Oh dear...
She should learn to STFU and learn geography
Speaking of Paul McCartney, the Beatles and Seekers were contemporaries. Not only were they both around in the 60s, the Seekers also recorded in Abbey Road studios, coming from Australia and being among the first recording artists many people might still remember who "made it" in the UK, or USA with some other bands. This song is like an unofficial Australian national anthem too, and there are a few songs like that.
Another Aussie band from the 60s, the Easybeats, had a hit song, Friday on my Mind, that's worth listening to, along with some other Seekers songs, and many others, haha. Great reactions!
The Easybeats were much more than Friday On My Mind. They had plenty of hits in Australia before Friday.
The Seekers were an Australian band who were also globally successful, including the US. This song was written by the male singer, and the concert was part of their farewell tour which also celebrated their 50 years together as a band. After the opening night Judith Durham, the female lead, suffered a brain haemorrhage that left her unable to read or write, but, as you can see, could still sing like an angel; she also had a lung disease that would eventually kill her.
The song itself is about Australia, from the Aboriginal man in the first verse, to the prison ships from Britain who became the first white settlers. Judith’s verses recognise Australia’s respect for the land itself, before Bruce sings about cultural icons in Australian history, and the whole theme of the piece is that most Australians, with the exception of the Aboriginal peoples, are from immigrants old and new they are all Australians despite their ethnic and cultural differences. I would highly recommend you maybe read a little on Australian history as it might help you enjoy this magical song even more.
the songs title is I AM AUSTRALIAN , you will appreciate the real value of the song when you understand what it represents.
you enjoyment will multiply by a significant amount.
'i am, you are, we are , Australian '
If they were American, why are they singing "I am Australian." Just something to think about.
It could be the style reminded her of American Gospel music - which it does, kinda. But it is much more gentle.
They sung our history
The lady was sitting because h
Was recovering from stroke
That's why was last one she wanted to sing it with them again
It's a folk song the guy on guitar wrote it from memory
We are a country of proud of our country warts and all good or bad
Many song by our musicians over the years for many different things
Some only Aussies would understand as in slang language and anyone wouldn't understand the words
But this song is how we started
Then how we got to where we are today
So it's past and future with the good and the bad
Cheers mate 🦘🇦🇺👍
Check out one of their biggest hits, "Georgy Girl" from 1966.
Also, I think it might be against the law to talk over the lyrics of this song 🤣
if not then it should be.
The HINT is in the TITLE. OMG. I feel violated.
Dear girl how can you say American after all that? They are 1000% Australians. An Australian pop group from the 60s who once knocked the Beatles from number one on the charts. You need to search for the song, "Georgy Girl," played at the Myer music bowl in Melbourne to a record crowd of 200,000 people, a record that has never been broken. They are young and Judith Durham, the lead singer is pretty and uses that powerful voice to perfection. Cheers🇦🇺🦘
I think we need to remember this girl is reacting in her second language. Spanish culture is not top of mind for most Australians, so it’s unfair for Australians to expect her to be on top of our culture. And a high percentage of what’s written or sung in English worldwide comes from the USA.
We’ll catch more flies with honey than we will with vinegar 🙂
If you listen to the song, they say who they are, Australian.
Your doing a good job young lady..from Glasgow in Scotland best wishes
Thank you!
Judith Durham, voice of an angel, may she rest in peace, with the other angels.
um, i am, you are, we are Australian,,,,, not American
this should be our national anthem
They were a Australian band from the early sixties that's maybe why you hadn't heard of them before but were huge internationally in the sixties and seventies
Joan Baez !!!! Wow what a good reference !!!!!
Understand that for thousands of years Australia was peopled by the first peoples from Africa. The first Europeans were basically slaves sent there from Britain and called convicts. We became part of the land and learnt from it and embraced it. We still to this day welcome peoples from all across the world but the boundaries are becoming blurred due to their inability to embrace an opportunity to ensure fairness and leave those things behind them they are fleeing and live a better life...
Nothing like American please .!!!
Glad you liked this Australian folk song. However, it is not American country and western stuff.
I think you are a wee bit confused. I AM YOU ARE WE ARE AUSTRALIAN.
Thankyou .. For showing this beautiful song .. I wonder do you know what the song was about as there is Aussie slang in it . R.I.P Judith always will remember you
She missed the Australian part. Ok, we all make mistakes. When I was in Australia, Aussies would often ask me if I was Canadian. Our accents are similar. Americans often confuse the British and Aussies for the same reason. She is from Spain. Give her a break.
No mate. How can U confuse I am Australian to I'm American? Anyway Canadian's get offended being called American & i understand I that. Being confused with a Septic Tank is insulting
@@Tully_23_32 Oh my, quite uncharitable of you.
prefer their early stuff. dad listened to them in the 60s, so i heard their music as a child in 70s. a rabbit hole worth exploring. well well well.....:P
No, it's NOT Ameerican style.,,it's Australian style!
THIS WAS AFTER HER FIRST STROKE.
They are Aussies, with British ancestry. If the Aus National Anthem was to be changed, this song would be my choice. It embodies the origins to the present day. To my way of thinking it brings all together as one to live, breathe and love the country. Spanish Girl says it sounds like American. We are one, we are many and from all the lands on earth we come. I first heard the live performance of this fabulous all embracing anthem in Sydney in the early 90s. Very stirring and true in its message.
This group outsold the Beatles in the 1960s
🕊☮💟
you should watch unchained melody by the rightous brothers . it is about a man in jail and the vocals are wonderful . most blogges pause t he song once or twice to speak . it is a bit annoying to hear you talk during the song . dave from australia .t he seekers are australian . cheers
just subscribed the seekers the carnival is over or judith durham danny boy would love to see your reaction to these two songs thank you
This is about history of Australia, from start to now?
You s hould listen to The Carnival Is Over
Gen Z,damn we are in trouble in the future
You should research before commenting, Seekers are Australian & have been performing since the 1950s, Bruce the male singer wrote this song.
Hey there, as you can see in the comments, if you are to get a big following you need to do a little research on who you are reacting to. It only takes a few minutes on google. However, dont let the comments get you down. Learn from this and you will grow your channel. Ill subscribe but please take the advice given. Also check out the early seekers.
Go react about your own country cause you don't know what your talking about reacting to mine
How the f do they sound like Americans you couldn't get any more Australian
Do you know there is a Country named Australia? It is on the other side of the world from America. If you don’t know that then you shouldn’t be doing this.
"We are one" is just simply too redolent of Pauline Hanson's unpleasant legacy for my taste.
The point is being Australian is to be pluralistic.
Don`t do reactions to music you have not researched. It is offensive to the people of that land.
Just one nag, I wish you would pause to talk as you something miss things
You are doing reactions to songs, but you are not even listening to the words.
And you are not even reading or trying to understand the title of the song. Very strange indeed !!
not american oh my gosh
