Great reaction! This story actually has many underlying metaphors for Christianity in it, according to its original creator, Tolkien. You'll notice so many once you understand Tolkiens' vision. The Ring represents the temptation of sin that dominates and controls every man's heart, which is why Frodo (who is a symbol for Christ) had to destroy the ring (sin) to save the Shire and Middle Earth (Christ with mankind). There are so many parallels it would take forever to outline lol. This is what Tolkien wrote in his book "Letters of Tolkien" about this subject: "The Lord of the Rings' is of course a fundamentally religious and Catholic work; unconsciously so at first, but consciously in the revision. That is why I have not put in, or have cut out practically all references to anything like 'religion,' to cults or practices, in the imaginary world. They're just employees on a mining transport ship. Basically truck drivers, not explorers or scientists. No alien training. Imagine seeing this in a theater in 1979. Pretty spicy.

In 1979 they didn't have CGI. Everything you saw on screen was there. And the chestbuster scene , the actors knew something was going to happen but didn't know what. They were given rain jackets to put on. Also the cast was told they couldn't enter the dinner room for a few days. So what you see are their REAL REACTIONS😮😮😮

I didnt notice you mention this but the actor playing Ash is the same actor that plays Bilbo Baggins. You were asking why they handled the situation so poorly and the answer is that essentially they are space truckers. They dont deal with stuff like this and their normal science officer was removed from the crew by the company and replaced with Ash. Ash was there specifically to make sure the proper procedures werent followed.
