There really is no other place quite like arcade club, i haven't been for a good few years and do plan to visit again in the coming year or so, the place really should be protected at all costs and deserves living museum status.
Arcade club technician here! Great video. Just to let you know that HotRod and Super Hang On were fixed by Friday evening. :) Poogie Race and Quick&Crash are waiting on parts, The dance mats will be getting renewed focus. Peace out!
I was really blown away by the ratio of working to non-working arcade cabinets on a random visit! (Not that I'm an arcade inspector by any means haha!). Great to hear about the dance games, that's really great news! It's such a rare unique collection (In the UK), it'll be great to have this is as THE place to play!
First of all, the Arcade Club chain/brand is stellar, and always will be. Many have tried to copy (& fail), but Arcade Club with Andy & team really kickstarted many venues into stepping up their game in the UK & beyond. The impact really cannot be ignored. I think the issue with the rhythm games is when they are run/maintained by non-players, you will get issues like this. Pushing the pads up against the screen is the equivalent of forcing someone to play games standing 2 centimeters from the telly at home lol. What do people think the long cable tube is for? Decoration?? Aside from that, big respect & nice video. AC is always worth a visit.
I was there in March 2018 and my eyes are full of tears of joy at what theyve done with the place 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I'll be going again this December the 7th and I cant wait !!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for sharing
Amazing that back in the day we didn't care about frames per second or 1440p,4k it was all about the gameplay and melodic sounds that came out of these arcade machines.
Awesome video Sean! You picked a great day to come, it's usually packed here especially on weekends! Back in 2018 at Arcade Club's prime for rhythm game player I came here for the first time, It's a surreal experience with having 100s of games to play and to find an active community of retro and rhythm game players and of course to find all these amazing rhythm games in the UK so local to me! The venue itself is amazing along with the long list of games the arcade has to offer. Like you said the maintenance here is pretty good, besides some issues with the rhythm/dance games which was far better in 2018 than it is now. I am glad you hammered in the point of that you need specialist techs for niche games because unfortunately most of the rhythm game people who use to go here don't come anymore due to the maintenance. Myself and others offered to fix these issues, I had some luck with certain staff members saying I could then other staff members saying I couldn't then being threatened to be kicked out? Very strange and confusing lol. They use to do active fighting game tourneys here and dance game ones too. Sadly we haven't seen one in years probably again due to lack of maintenance. I did host a little ITG tourney in April back when I was told I can mod the pads by a staff member. Again staff said I could do this but heard tales from management that they were angry I did this? Received a comment on one of my TikToks i made of the tourneys from Arcade Club themselves applauding me for hosting/running this...? It's all a bit wishy washy with staff/management. Arcade Club do host meetup and events, even interviewing speedrunners and notable gamers hence the equipment near the PC area. As far as ITG song packs go I am allowed to put songs on there, stamina stuff will be on soon don't worry! Need to fix the visual offset, but the global offset seems decent. Glad to see my pad mod working well after 1 year of not touching it haha.
That's good to know! The guy said "You've picked a good day! There's only 40 people here".... I was surprised because 40 People is a busy day for most arcades haha! It's interesting to know that I figured out the state of the rhythm game scene here within 3-4 hours of visiting! Yes 100% agree! Specialist tech's are needed for games such as these, I'm sure it's not limited to dance games, but definitely includes them. It's a shame to let a nice collection of rhythm games fall into the appeal of casual play due to maintenance. It would be a great location for tournaments and events. I think the arcade would benefit from having a local such as yourself maintaining the machines. They would probably be laughing at a deal of giving you free entry in exchange for keeping the pads and hardware in tip top shape. It's a win win situation in my eyes, but at the same time, it's not my location nor my decision. To prevent any miscommunication, I would recommend speaking with somebody at the top and get the yes or no from them. I can give you the information of Dan who I spoke with to get permission to film. I can't promise he will say yes, but at least you can present your offer!
Hi, We are renewing our focus on the rhythm games, perhaps moving some to the ground floor where it’s more solid 😂. An issue we had with voluntary technicians that were ‘specialist’ in rhythm games was their adherence for public safety. A lot of the time they were leaving machines unsafe for public use which is paramount as a consideration for our venue. So, while specialists input is definitely appreciated, we couldn’t allow the machines to left in the unsafe condition that the rhythm gamers were leaving them in, and withdrew the community’s ability to alter/change/fix the machines.however, If anyone wants to offer input and bring it to myself I’d love to facilitate your suggestions. We want to be world class in everything we do. We also have loads of exciting new rhythm games on the way from Japan. Anyone is welcome to knock on the technicians door and let us know what we can improve/fix. Cheers -Lewis
@@lewiswaddo5045 Glad you and the team are keeping an uptake with the issue. Also, will it hurt to tell me the names of some of the new rhythm games from Japan? I'm so excited, can't wait to see this place get even bigger! 😁
I would add that the pump it up machines at babylon park in camden are actively maintained and some of the staff are indeed players, the machines are looked after and have a few mods even. Probably as close to a 'competitive-level' PIU machine as you're gonna get here. Also, great video, love all your arcade tours and your dedication to the hobby :)
A Great 90's Arcade machine is missing! . 'Primal Rage' a Great addition to any arcade. It was on the street fighter/Mortal Kombat level, but with Dinosaurs (which makes it unique), kids would love that one. A 90's Classic! Further Ideas: A 2p machine with lollipops to win is always a good idea An oldskool grab machine that actually works A couple of classic gamblers, to make extra cash for the business (i think people will use them in this setting and after a couple of drinks)
Primal Rage was pretty cool! imo UK has enough gamblers. I'm kinda happy they aren't any here. They are ruining the towns and cities (Well, they already have! It's depressing)
The only place with lots of the old arcades from the 80s to 200s are in Chicago (Galloping Ghost). They have held the world's record: almost 1000 arcades to date. What's neat is that you only have to pay a flat fee of $25 and you play from the moment they open to the time they close the place.
Yeah I've been there before. It's not the only place haha!... but $25 is really expensive!! The place with the most games is in New Hampshire I think, it's not Galloping Ghost. Quantity doesn't always mean quality, although, I did have fun there
I went to Arcade Club Bury a few times before 2020; haven't been since then. Looks like it's expanded considerably since my last visit! If only I wasn't so afraid of crowds in enclosed spaces (due to the virus); I'd love to visit again.
Yeah it's absolutely crazy! I think they are buying up everything they can get their hands on! If you get afraid, just swing your arms like a helicopter. That seems to scare everybody away, it works for me
