I have a 2014 S60 R and I bought this car simply because I’ve heard nothing but great things from Volvo. Test drove it and I absolutely fell in love. It’s been 2 years now and the car is still unbelievably fun to drive. I never get tired of looking at my car and driving it. Every time I step into it it’s very exciting. After seeing this new design I want it now
After what Ford did to Volvo and GM did to Saab I gave up on Swedish auto brands. Having owned examples of each brand, I was sad. And I have to admit that Geely's purchase of Volvo didn't inspire any confidence. But I was wrong, very wrong. It's great to see a Chinese company inject needed capital in Volvo while leaving design to the Swedes.
It was a very smart move on geely's part. pump volo full of money, let volvo what it does best with large amounts of money, reap the rewards and the designs to implement elswhere. (see the new london taxis....notice something similar?)

I just bought a new 2019 with 500 miles as a dealer car and I love it. This isn't the honeymoon of a new car, since I'm more of a sceptic. I've been comparing top end mid-size sedans for a long time and the drive in comfort, dynamic or if you set a custom/individual setting, you'll love it. Almost shockingly well rounded car! I didn't get the R, just the T6 AWD Momentum. Tons of tech, driver assist features, incredibly smooth drive, sporty enough for me and great mobile app. The UI was easy to master and the I don't have the B&W sound system, but the standard system is a reasonable 7.5/10. The digital instrument gauge/screen is plenty good. The seats and drive are miles better than the Mercedes C300. I had a C300 that was great, the S60 is much better. I was really surprised and impressed. To be honest, I'm not a speed guy, but I like to press it a bit and this is more than enough. The back seat is also much better than others in the class. I find the car much bigger than my C300 or A4. The result 9f the size, weight and wheelbase is a masterfully and smooth ride. This drives and handles like the E300 with much less roll. The customization of rlfratutes and driving functions are exceptional. I didn't expect to get a Volvo but thebblanacr of value, feature rich option packages and the distinguished look of this care set it apart from all others. Lots of compliments on the Pebblestone Gray color with 19" rims.
Good review. Very impressive car! End of the video one can understand why it can hang in there with the big three.I think the R design T6 is the best balance of features performance and price. Never owned a Volvo but might check this out for my next car. I am loving the new V60 as well which I assume will drive similar.

I'm going to be looking at the T6 R design when my local dealership gets them in, as you say, it strikes the best balance of features and performance.
Sorry, I should have clearer, the S60's were the 2 previous generations, they were bullet proof, the only issue we had was on the first one, the wife hit something on the freeway and damaged a control arm, I was actually able to replace that at home in an hour or so, other than that, nothing, the XC 60 has been good so far, no issues, well not quite true, if you have the Volvo app on your phone, it will tell you where the car is and where it has been, great in many respects, not so great if you are stopping to pick up a surprise present for the wife.......The seats (yet again, it's a common theme with Volvo's) are some of the most comfortable on the market, I have said this before in other reviews but if all car manufacturers just bought their seats from Volvo the world would be a better place.

In Europe 90% of nowadays cars have 4 cylinders engines. The best seller of BMW 3 series is the 2.0 d. The best seller of Audi A4 is the 2.0 d. The best seller of Mercedes is C 200, also 2 liters engine with 4 cylinders. Please stop these imature complaining about 4 cylinders engines. It's ridiculous.
i agree, if an engine has 250hp and good torque, why complain over 4 cylinders if they do the job? sure it doesn't sound compared to a 5 cyl or 6 cyl engine but come on, the S60 is for comfort first imo.
@@Vallecaucanisimo almost every man's dream on this planet is to have an european car, especially german...so the quality standard is already set by europeans. In Western Europe most of the people change the car after 4-5 years, no need to worry about the "short life" of an engine, no reason to keep forever a car.
@@Vallecaucanisimo, I don't know how I ...sound to u, a little bit imature I guess. Look over www.mobile.de and see what I'm talking about. The age of the european fleet is smaller then anywere else. People are changing more often the cars then in US. The whole Europe works with cars with engine equal or under 2 liters and 4 cylinders. I had cars with 3 litres, even an old Mercedes with 5 liters but nowadays there's no need for big engines because the speed limits are almost everywere and the urban trafic is horible.
there is a saying in Sweden, when a Volvo reaches 200,000 km it's finally "broken in" :D only service i do is changing engine oil, and spark plugs every other or third year depending if i feel like it lol.
I have a question since the car is made US now can you still do European delivery. I always do it every 3-4 years. I have a big family in Italy so great deal especially with Volvo.
Ron My old 2015 C-Class had unbeatable seats for the class. Every possible adjustment and just plain comfortable and supportive. Actually a little better than my new E-Class because the C had an extending thigh cushion, where my E the thigh cushion just tilts up or down.
Volvo seats are historically awesome. They have always been distinctly different/better than everyone else. I don't know if that is true with the current generation. Any current owners able to chime in?
Nice car... Why this complaining that the car only have a 4cyl if the performance is good?! 6 or 8 cyl engine loaded on the frontaxel just destroys handling and are moore expensive to maintain...
Martin Wehrend the additional weight is certainly a concern but I would argue that they’re more expensive to maintain. They’re really winding out these four cylinder engines, especially with a twin charged setup like Volvo has gone with. It’s a new engine so the jury is still out on long term reliability but I’m skeptical that it will be better than their previous larger offerings. A big V6 or V8 doesn’t return the kind of fuel economy that you get with a four but it’s also not working very hard cruising down the highway either. A good example is GM’s LS family of V8s-primitive and heavy but powerful as hell, simple, and extremely reliable. Long term reliability isn’t a concern if you’re just going to lease it for three years and dump it, but if you like to own your car and keep it around for a while then it’s very important. If it turns out to be a viable setup then kudos to Volvo, but it doesn’t hurt to be cautious when you’ve got skin in the game.
@@ryand.3858 I actually own a S90 T5 and the engine is just wonderful in performance...and the fuel economy isn't that bad. I have really bad experience from other downsizing engines concerning fuel economy but not this time. The only thing I would like is a nicer sound, it doesn't sound like a 6 or 8 cyl, that's for sure:) Yes, a large engine doesn't have to work as hard as a small one and the fuelconsumption often are moore honest then the fakenumbers provided by manufacturers of downsizing engines... But Volvos engines isn't that far from the truth. And you really feel how agile the car handles without all the extra weight in the front.
I have a lot of friends with Teslas. They love them, and they've had far less problems with them than their previous cars. I've had a few costly problems with the engine in the V60, never buying a combustion engine car again.
@@SacreDro you realize the comment is 2 years old? I actually bought a Model 3 Performance last summer. Drove 20k miles with it and sold it two months ago. It's a fantastic car, but now I'm getting a Model Y. 😂
Can it take on the "best" from Germany? Again....what cars are we talking about? BMW (scrap pile) Audi (another junk pile) Or well...Pissedes? It kicks the ass of all of them
Volvo shouldn’t compete with BMW Mercedes or Audi...... because they aren’t that main stream and should have prices that undercut their competition’ I love Volvo cars and Volvo design but jeez......they should target a better demographic
The exterior tries very hard to mimic audi, the seats great, the dashboard is ugly, looks like a truck dash...other than that very good, same extetior lines as an a4,a6
Just like with the S90, the car looks great all the way up to the C-pillar. Then it completely falls apart and looks as if someone else designed the rear and a third person tried to glue both parts together. Very far from the coherent design of its competitors.
Martin H I know it's all taste but I like the rear. I had some problems with it in the beginning but to me it ages like wine, while BMWs age more like milk, and they have bland rears to begin with.
I love this new redesign Volvo however I’m a bit nervous about its functionality due to that is build in US. My current Volvo S60 was build in Sweden and it works great even without having proper maintenance. But now since it will be build in US I’m sure it will break down constantly.thats just my opinion.

Turbo and supercharger in a tiny 4 cylinder + phev = reliability and powertrain coordination nightmare. No thanks. Just give me a standard 2 L turbo, a supercharged V6 for more power, and a NA 2 L hybrid for best fuel economy.
@@Vallecaucanisimo look up Savagegeese who does an amazing job describing all the problems with Volvo and the T8 setup. Really gets into detail. Also no need to insult. We are all adults here
German brands tend to get trashed for being unreliable, Volvo is below them in reliability surveys yet it's very uncommon for anyone to curse them for it.
@@Vallecaucanisimo I'm a hybrid vehicle algorithms engineer. I know what setup works long term, and what fails. Forced induction and PHEV is a controls nightmare. Think of the complex transition between different engine states, and EV mode to meet the drivers power demand in the most efficient way.
I'm ok with a 4 cylinder turbo as the base, and agree that it will be on par with what the competition offers. Superchargers for performance work better for larger engines, not smaller ones, which is why I also mentioned a supercharged V6 (which can make 400+ HP if done right). Another option would be Twin turbo V6, which once again can easily achieve 400+HP. The issue I brought up is specific to the Turbo, supercharged PHEV. Turbo and supercharging a 4 cylinder and give it a PHEV makes it seem like engine reliability and fuel economy will suffer. Most people go PHEV for the fuel economy benefit and all electric drive, not for how powerful the engine is. Successful PHEV's on the market do not have forced induction engines, and use the electrical powertrain to make up for the lack of power. The engine just acts as a Range extender to provide propulsion power and keep the battery sufficiently charged. This technology would also assist Volvo's vision of expanding their electrification capability, which is sort of their corporate goal at this point.
I'm so not a fan of using the same 4-banger with various "add-ons" to move the HP up for the different trim levels. Coming from a string of (true) T6 powered Volvos, the new engine feels like a pair of rabid squirrels hopped up on meth live under the hood. No thank you Volvo.
"as long as you give it a little bit of time, it becomes pretty intuitive..." Reviewer does not appear to have a very firm grip on the meaning of 'intuitive'
Uhhm so they stole the body-style of the 2014Mazda6, then doubled the price & halved the MPG ! I'm sure the interior is great, and the maintenance repair costs are quadruple, but the commercials with the sooty Birt voice reciting EEcummngs on individuality are hypocritical.
Volvo needs to stop PLAYING and have the POLESTAR and HEICO BE THEIR TOP TIER OF THEIR FLEET. Performance wise, I don't think they can complete with the GERMANS
Wow...really? I guess to each his own. To my eye, it's elegant and classy and much more attractive than the manufacturers who are trying too hard with all the knife edge designs, huge open-maw grills, etc. This design is cohesive and will stand the test of time.
The tail lights are so ugly, there is no need for further discussion. It may perform better than anything else on the road, but the back end looks hideous. This is a dealbreaker. They ruined an otherwise beautiful car.
I might get flanked for saying this: If I want a $45K RWD sedan, I will take a 3 Series or C-Class. Since you are driving downhill, the performance of the engine sounds better than being on full load of passengers and going uphill?
You buy electric the breaking is hard to get used to. Doesn’t mean car sux mr
its so beautiful my goodness..
Gorgeous car, I hope it succeeds.
You sound like Stu from The Hangover.. Congrats
Wonder if they've sorted out those transmission issues?
T5 is FWD only right so I'm thinking the driving difference would be a little different than the AWD T6.
No, you can get T5 awd, I test drove one...the T6 gives you more hp 316 .
Kind hint: while the dropping rear head rests increase visibility, they were presumably designed by an engineer who had annoyimg kids. Give it a test when your kinds get noisy
In Western Europe most of the people change the car after 4-5 years, no need to worry about the "short life" of an engine, no reason to keep forever a car.
my old Volvo cars still roll just fine these days with over 300,000 km on the meter.
I had cars with 3 litres, even an old Mercedes with 5 liters but nowadays there's no need for big engines because the speed limits are almost everywere and the urban trafic is horible.
there is a saying in Sweden, when a Volvo reaches 200,000 km it's finally "broken in" :D
only service i do is changing engine oil, and spark plugs every other or third year depending if i feel like it lol.
After listening to your comments, it sounds like you have never driven Volvo before!? I heard that you tried xc, but...
This and the Genesis G70 are the much needed surprises of the year! R.I.P German over-engineering.
Too bad germans is what people gonna buy.
not the g70 coz the space in the back is quite horrible like a 5ft 6 inch person can't fit in there
0:56 if you love those headlight you can buy them for the small fee of $2500..... each.
love the interior
I have a question since the car is made US now can you still do European delivery. I always do it every 3-4 years. I have a big family in Italy so great deal especially with Volvo.
If you have a big family then this is probably not the best car to buy.
You can have delivery everywhere in the world. Just ask
I bet the seats best any German sedan in this class.
Just ordered my XC60 with heated and cooled leather seats. Volvo seats are still class leading.
I dont know how they can best the seats from the previous s60. They are the most comfortable seats ever
@@kayanoreeves1949 i ve driven many german cars various brands. Volvo seat beats germans.
will there be an S60 cross country?
Looks like Mark is flying a fighter jet.
Rear set headrests flat? Nice!
Martin Wehrend I’m actually a fan of the T5/6. They’re pretty uncommon where I live but I’ve always appreciated the looks of the S60.
We need new coupe from Volvo!!!
Does Jaguar XE match those cars?
Good, descriptive
Also the safiest carbrand in the world!
Love everything about it, except that its not an EV.
I'm Swedish and I have a V60 now and its great, but I'll go for the Tesla Model 3 next year.
I'd advise you to avoid Tesla. They can't make a reliable door, let alone the motor. Go for literally any other brand.
I have a lot of friends with Teslas. They love them, and they've had far less problems with them than their previous cars.
I've had a few costly problems with the engine in the V60, never buying a combustion engine car again.
@@MrTaliz I'm not telling you not to get EVs, just not Tesla. A Nissan Leaf or Chevy Bolt would be a safer bet.
@@MrTaliz That's because your friends are probably snobs, the net is full of Tesla problems and good luck finding a mechanic for them.

Volvo shouldn’t compete with BMW Mercedes or Audi...... because they aren’t that main stream and should have prices that undercut their competition’ I love Volvo cars and Volvo design but jeez......they should target a better demographic
The exterior tries very hard to mimic audi, the seats great, the dashboard is ugly, looks like a truck dash...other than that very good, same extetior lines as an a4,a6
They definitely needed an interior upgrade.. looks a lot better then what it was.
When companies leave western parents and adopt Asians they become better.
Eg: Volvo under geely
JLR under TATA
Only way to get this is in T8 version. 400 hp. Anything else is too slow.
That is how the rear of Volvo's have always looked though.
@@transitvideosbayarea Yep, this rear is pretty close to the Polestar 1 which is basically the Volvo Concept Coupe which everyone loved!
I love this new redesign Volvo however I’m a bit nervous about its functionality due to that is build in US. My current Volvo S60 was build in Sweden and it works great even without having proper maintenance. But now since it will be build in US I’m sure it will break down constantly.thats just my opinion.
You're silly.
I'm sure they hold the same factory standards worldwide.
@@mathiasvdk Not really, was watching someone review one for a TV company program, the hood was not assembled straight from factory, poor QA from my POV, the QC guy must have been drunk.
I saw that 740.
We are all adults here
Yeah they’re great lease-mobiles though.
Clearly takes styling cues from the BMW 2 series. Imitation is the best form of flattery.
"as long as you give it a little bit of time, it becomes pretty intuitive..." Reviewer does not appear to have a very firm grip on the meaning of 'intuitive'
The car is beautiful and brilliant but the power of the engine is very weak for the weight!
This disadvantage is unacceptable.
The performance figures are very competitive with any two litre German offerings !!
If you have driven one I am certain you would not say that. The t6 is awesome
Very nice but reliability is suspect.
Have you ever owned one?
No but I know people who have and they complain a lot. I understand that some models are reliable but as a brand Volvo's do not instil confidence.

Complaints and long-term reliability. Volvo doesn't make the cut.
It’s a boring blue blood luxury car! I’m sleepy 😴.
Volvo needs to stop PLAYING and have the POLESTAR and HEICO BE THEIR TOP TIER OF THEIR FLEET. Performance wise, I don't think they can complete with the GERMANS
this is such a boring blah body style. Looks like something outta the mid 90's from GM . . . or something. How Sad!
The S80 is another example of 20 year-old exterior design. Completely uninspiring.
Totally disagree
Wow...really? I guess to each his own. To my eye, it's elegant and classy and much more attractive than the manufacturers who are trying too hard with all the knife edge designs, huge open-maw grills, etc. This design is cohesive and will stand the test of time.
The tail lights are so ugly, there is no need for further discussion. It may perform better than anything else on the road, but the back end looks hideous. This is a dealbreaker. They ruined an otherwise beautiful car.
Fred G. Sanford Agreed. Not a fan of the tail lights. I guess if you really like it, but hate the tail lights, then just get the wagon version 🤣

Blake Swan I like the genesis. I think I'd rather have the Volvo. The genesis reminds me of a s class too much
