Welcome back everyone! I thought I’d make a Star Wars miniature today cause it sounded like fun. If you’d like to see more Star Wars related videos let me know. I hope you all enjoy and have a great weekend!
What if you shape a bowl from some expanded mesh and have it fit inside your crucible. Flair out the edges so it rests on the rim. Then remelt your slag allowing the liquid to flow through while the rest stays in the bowl. Make sense?
Love Star Wars. Please do more! Just got into melting. I’m having a hard time sand casting the little figures. How much would it cost to get into the plaster on the miniatures?
Depends on what you’re looking to do. It can get very pricey when you factor in investment plaster, flasks, tools, etc as it’s not cheap. There’s cheaper ways to it but not always as effective
That came out pretty dang good. But I noticed a alot of 3D printed stuff has lines left on them. Is that fixable by changing the way it's printed or would it have to do with the type of plastic? I see some people print things and you can barely see ANY layering but then in others it comes through. And for your case it even can come through to the metal a little bit. And instead of grinding it off after the pour it's be easiest to to to remove them before you even make the plaster mold. I guess you could use a bit of heat on the outside to kinda blend the layers together on the outside, or I've even heard about putting pieces in isopropyl alcohol to smooth them, but I don't that that would be for for this. Then again Idk how much you even care about the lines, I just noticed it on some of them..... anyway, I LOVE Star Wars... the old ones of course are "the best" but I thin each movie has it's parts that I liked more than the others. I do remember the Ewok movie with Milford Brimley (or maybe his name is Wilford... 🤷♂ lol) from when I was a kid... I think I might look for that and watch it again :) Thanks for the pour!!! See you next week!!! :D

Depends on the printer settings and material, one thing that would probably help is smoothing a print with acetone to reduce visible layer lines.
Ee chee wa maa!

That does not look like bronze that looks like brass
If you're going to call it "gold" then at least use Nordic Gold.
