My dad went to school with these guys in 1959 and remembers them as being awesome back then. They are superior to many of the singers today . There is no electronic games here- No autotuners or reverb to doctor the recording. Just pure, awesome voices.
No auto tuners, but actually echo and reverb were quite commonly used at this time and first used in the late forties. In the mid fifties it was often overdone, just listen to any of the songs on Elvis' first and second albums for an example. But by the sixties they learned to use it much more subtly so it didn't overpower the voice. It didn't change the voice any though, so it certainly didn't take from or add anything to the quality of their singing. It would just add the effect that you would hear if you were singing in a shower or a acoustically favorable concert hall. If you couldn't sing, reverb wouldn't help like auto-tune does - for an example of that, listen to an old Fabian song :)

It's refreshing to see you all fall in love with high quality. A good deal of the music from that time period was burried by Hip Hop because Nashville made that decision. I encourage you to listen to more I Perhaps"Angel of the Morning" would be a good next step
