This week's Boss Guide for Vanilla World of Warcraft features the sixth and final boss of AQ40 - C'Thun!
C'Thun represents one of the most legendary and hardest raid encounters in Vanilla World of Warcraft with its challenging encounters and unparalleled raid mechanics that blew away anything seen before in Molten Core and Blackwing Lair.

After many delays it's finally here - the guide for C'Thun! During the creation of this video however it left with me with several questions for Classic WoW such as,
Will Bosses have to be changed or buffed for a modern challenge? Could we see a return of the "mathmatically" impossible, pre-nerf C'Thun? Or is all of this just a result of 1.12 Talents?
I'd love to see pre-nerf C'Thun. Looking forward to the headline "impossible World of Warcraft raid boss finally killed after 13 years"
Supposedly C'thun was bugged before it was nerfed and when they fixed the bugs they also nerfed C'thun, and Nihilum killed the boss the same day the patch went out. What I heard Nostalrius actually released C'thun as pre-nerf, but bugfixed which means this version should be harder than during actual vanilla. There was a lot of talk back then about this being an actual world first because this type of C'thun had never been attempted before.
Great video!
Very appreciated
Dude, some of these 10 seconds shots must have taken you ages to set up properly. Massive respect for putting so much time, attention and care into these guides. You deserve way more subs!
It is a lot of time and work but my focus is creating high quality content for current and future players. Thanks for stopping by again, HW!
@@Raserisk Hopefully this gets hundred of thousands of views once Classic comes out!
The production quality is getting better and better. Can't wait for classic to launch and for these to blow up
These are fantastically made and sorely needed. Keep up the good work.
Option 3: have your best Hunter farm up 300 nature resist gear, lead the raid in, and feign on the far side to swap into all his DPS gear.
I may or may not have personal experience with this method.
By far the most exciting raid boss in Vanilla. As a guild leader our guild whiped so so so many times on this boss. Then i forced every1 to take a flask of health just to stay alive and we killed him. And it broke my headphones from the screams when we did it. We had 2 ppl left alive to kill him, Incredable moment. Thank you Forsaken
flask of health hahaha
2 alive? While handling the shield? “Impressive”
Amazing guide. Very clear and it covers the general aspects of the fight very well.
I have a few points based on my own experience.
- We always used the first method of entering the room with the main tank taking 3 beams and never had any issues what so ever. There is plenty of time to get in to position and I think this is very easy and very safe.
- During the second phase when stacking for the giant claw tentacles we did it at the far end of the room instead of the entrance since this is where people got spat out of the stomach (maybe this was a Kronos thing?) and could get isolated or worse spawn the tentacle at the wrong end if they exited at a bad time.
- During the second phase 1 or 2 of the Mages should consider saving their counterspell when the spawn of a giant eye tentacle is imminent and not use it on one of the small ones like you do during the rest of the fight, since silencing the giant eye tentacle is crucial.
Thanks for sharing your tips and experiences! My goal with these guides is to serve as a foundation for players to share information and also take things a step further with their own strats!
C'Thun raiders were practising social distancing before it became mainstream.
Thanks for putting all those guides together man, awesome production!
OMG The end of this video definitely hints at Naxx Boss Guides!
Came here eagerly looking forward to seeing this on Classic... some day. Thank you!
your level of production is amazing! I'm really enjoying these guides a lot! Thank you so much for your work :)
I love your guides man, such amazing footage, great editing and detailed information
been waiting for this video for a long time, Great job man!!
would you do naxxramas next ? there are literally 0 guide videos on it and it could be a good idea before classic is released
Naxxramas is next!
This is awesome mate! Holy sh. Nice editing and explanation!
Great and high quality guide, man! Brings back some great vanilla-vibes, although the guild I was playing in, never made it any further than Skeram. But therefore, I'm stoked to see, what WoW Classic is gonna be all about!
These guides have been awesome! Can't wait for AQ to be released on Nighthaven
Great video mate!
Thanks Orcbit, I appreciate it!
Those juicy drops god damn. Great guide btw.
Great boss guide & a good introduction.
Nice work.
Greatjob as always.
Really solid clear guide
In depth. Easy to follow. Good pacing. Great guide and make more
I dont even know how you set up some of these shots. Off the charts editing.
Once again a great video. Unfortunately my guild has already cleared AQ40 by the time this video came out. But your previous videos were very helpful ;). As far as 'buffing' the raid for a modern challenge. That's going to be difficult without changing the fight. C'thun was/is an excellent example of what vanilla was/is. A game where communication, trust, and coordination was the most important thing in the game. You see it's importance in every aspect of the game from the leveling to the premade pvp and end game raiding. Wow vanilla was hardwired to make the player communicate and build relationships with friends/strangers to get the full experience out of the game. There was no room for the anti-social, and the non-team players. Like the c'thun fight itself, Wow Vanilla punished you for being the weakest link. And it demanded that everyone in the guild meet a certain standard of effort and dedication to move forward. I won't be around for Wow-Classic, i'm gonna be done with this game soon. But i hope they keep that part of the game in place. So a new generation can experience it.
Excellent analysis, I hope you will change your mind about playing Classic!
Thank you for all your hard work!
Awesome guide. Respect!
Thrash has a chance to add two additional attacks, it can hit a geared tank for over 7k damage if they don't fully mitigate a single hit
Still loving the videos, keep it up
once again, THANK YOU! I'd love to see Ouro =]
Super guides 1+ sub. keep up the great work!
Nice loot btw, still waiting for that waist
Looking forward to Ony/MC/BWL guides
Tentacle r@pe party in 5 seconds...well at least the addon is getting you ready for it.
Awesome videos, do you have or though of making guides for the 3 optional bosses in AQ40? Bug trio, Viscidus and Ouro?
To [Sixpistols]: wipessss
[Sixpistols]: u were right.
[Kalenji]: Everyone should re-watch..link of the video
New sub!!
Thanks for this guide. Could you share the "Raserisk's Cthun Map" without numbers, which has the original map only? Since our group is a little different from the map here.
Seems that phase 1 is way harder than phase 2 due to positioning, am I wrong? Great guide indeed!
Phase 2 is typically harder since newer raid groups tend to lose focus of staying on top of the adds and get overrun along with players in the stomach not communicating or letting people on the surface know what's going on =)
nice, eye beam definitely more "dragnerous" than dark glare though :) if ur grp manages to wipe bc of dark glare, wouldnt even make it past the run in
I still think conga line entrance is safest.
"One of the hardest raiding encounters in vanilla" 2015 >> "This is too easy" 2020
no fuckin way this guy if from scuba cops!!!! no wonder theyre shredding through classic, theyve been playin classic on private servers since b4 it came out
Anybody else see a smite priest in that?Hammy would be proud
never seem worm before that pull u inside his body before, also never seem one shot kill beam too lol
he reads this guide like a creepypasta lmao
Since it was not mentioned I gues you suggest no nature resistance for maximum damage?
wow he's exactly like Yogg
When they rerelease i hope they keep the original tuning. Should be a breeze for raiders these days.
People who say this don't know what they are talking about. In fact I'm willing to bet you don't even know what aspects of C'thun were "nerfed" and why it was considered impossible. Pre-nerf C'thun wasn't hard because things had more health and hit harder. It was impossible because of a number of bugs and RNG that would just wipe you no matter what. The "nerfed" version of C'thun is actually just having those bugs and RNG fixed along with some numbers tuning later on. People who want Pre-nerf C'thun can have fun wiping when 3 of their tanks get devoured due to RNG and there are no tanks for adds. By the time your tanks exit the stomach, 5-10 of your raiders (mostly healers since they are the ones who will get aggro without a tank) will be dead and it's a wipe no matter what. That's Pre-nerf C'thun.
What will happen, if first man, that gets eye beam, will go out of the sight of C'Thun after getting a first eye beam strike? I mean, this man should get 2 another eye beam strikes, but C'Thun will not be able to reach him, so what will it do?
How do you get the initial video zooming on the corridors
could you please share what UI and addons your using? thx
Tanks shouldn't be hitting C'thun with thunderfury during weaken phase so you get additional debuff slots.
I'm pretty sure it's pronounce Capostrophe'Thoon
Is this boss mkre difficult than Kel Thuzard from Naxx?
this is basically the same thing as N'zoth LMAO
What loot addon is this at 11:27 ?
Can anyone tell me if C'Thun's Eye Beam targets or chains off of pets?
What addon are those hotbars?
monkaW
can the tentacles be taunted
How come there are no optional bosses in these guides.
Where are your bug trio and ooze boi guide! Darn :(
Man what should I do if in theory I'm on the position I should be but someone passes through me and the eye looks at me?
Try to separate yourself from the other player to avoid being hit by Eye Beam. However if you're going to be hit by Eye Beam then it isn't so bad if it's just 1 player - either you or him will receive the 2x damage which should largely be mitigated by your Greater Nature Pot and then your health which will be high due to full raid buffs.
did he say old smiths and not old gods?
Is this after he was nerfed?
AQ seems so much more fun compared to bwl and mc
It’s when the fights finally start approaching difficult mechanics. Wait till naxx my dude, shits hype.
voice sounds like gman
Isn’t this about 12 years too late?
no dmg meter? :(
Nzoth 1.0
To be honest this boss fight doesn't look complicated at all compared to some bosses nowadays in retail. Pretty sure there are a lot of guilds in Classic that can beat C'Thun, atleast with this guide :)
I wish i could cheat to get the Cthum because he is the only boss from that entier raid that drops good loot
Don't you also do POE guides??? or narrate them.
Not me sorry
Why, do, you, put, coma, after, every, word?
"Tentacle Rape Party"?? I'll go find another guide, thanks.
boo hoo cry more snowflake
I come from the future. C'thun is absolute piss easy
Cool video but honestly i hate those pauses that you are doing every couple words.
gggg
ggg
lol 7 melee
Funserver tactics will be unnecessary for AQ. These guys swore up and down bwl was going to filter shitters and we all know how that turned out. Funserver players will get btfo and exposed as shit gamers while the dad guilds cruise through and oneshot every boss in AQ.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
you don't talk like a human
dude do you hear your own comments ... take a nature protect potion ....30 sec later ,take a shadow protect potion ,.,,you know , cd time and so
You take these before the fight begins. After the first nature pot wears off, you don't apply a new one until you enter the stomach (only dps need to do this). Shadow is fine to let lapse unless you are away from heals and targeted with mind flay.
usually when an experienced person says something that sounds stupid, it's usually you're the one that's stupid. Pre-potting is absolutely standard to avoid the CD and Ras would just assume people know something basic like that to stack protection pots.
