Thanks for telling me about the bomp, bomp, bomp thing. I was told to do that for reversing because it would save the motor. Also thanks for mentioning about the circuit breaker.

I have a 2023 tri glide. I used the reverse twice. Now it doesn't work. It never popped the fuse. The reverse motor get power but doesn't move. It will be going in the shop this week. Harley should copy Honda. My 22-year-old Goldwing worked without a problem and I used it all the time. I avoided using the Harley because of all the failures that I read about.
Revzella carries a mechanical reverse gear kit for all kinds of harley's cost 15-16 hundred bucks if you can install it your self it save you some more expense,but i would recommend having a good shop install it for there is no modifying to exhaust and has a kill switch that will shut you down if you forget its in reverse plug and play comes with complete instructions
I understand about the starter motor. So I still try to choose my parking spot. I like to let gravity work for me if I can. Great video Doc! If you can do a video about raising the TriGlide on jack stands.
It's a cheap junk system. Seldom used it but ride in the rain a lot. When I did need it wouldn't work. Even my ATV's have a good reverse on them. Spend the money and had manual reverse installed. Now I can use it any timei want and can back it for miles if I want
Something else. The breaker can be tripped and you push the reverse button the head light will dim from the amperage draw. Making you think the breaker is not tripped.
First off, for the money we paid to buy these monsters, they should have a mechanical reverse and not an electric one. My reverse motor did go out and it was over $500 to have it rebuilt at Hunter's Moon Harley in Lafayette, Indiana. They did a great job but they told me to pulse the reverse and not to lay on it so here we have some conflicting guidance. The pulse action allows for less drain and it provides some momentum which allows you to lay off the reverse button.
My 2015 tri glide trike will light up the yellow light but will not engage into reverse, made sure breaker was not tripped and reset it. Brakes are not on and put in Nneutral and pushed R. Any help would be appreciated! Thank You!!
HD has made a lot of improvements to the reverse motor on trikes. Your oldest version could have given up. Have your local dealer confirm with testing….Doc
My 2018 Triglide used to trip the breaker to the point of madness but my new 2020 it will not go into reverse if you have the parking brake on which was what usually would happen when I would try to back up and forget about the break.
Bought 2 used tri glides both had bad reverse motors. 1st had only 4500 miles, 2nd one had 10000 miles. Harley should do better than this for as much as these tri glides cost.
I have a mechanical reverse on my Street Glide, why didn't Harley put that on the trike? Then you can use reverse for as long as you need with no issues 🤔
Hey Doc! Love your videos, keep up the good work. Question for you, where can I get parts for the reverse motor housing and not the reverse motor? One of the tabs broke off from where the motor attaches and it looks like it is a seperate piece that can be replaced.
Reverse on a Harley trike....when it works. Mine just went out for the third time ( 32,000 miles on the trike ). I use it seldom, don't back up inclines, etc ., etc. , etc. It's a piece of crap design that should have been changed decades ago. Using your legs to back it up is difficult when you only have one.
Are you replacing them? If i was the dealer, I would be looking at the entire reverse assembly...wires, switches and mounts...Now they have redesigned the motor itself so if it has been more than 5 years the next one should last a lot longer....Doc
The electric reverse is one of the dumbest thing they have ever done. I have machanical reverse and can back up hills with a trailer. Harley is starting to be the worse non ametican made bike on the road.

That's something that the dealer will go over with you. And your owners manual also has the info. 3 easy steps... 1.motor running 2. shift into neutral 3. Push reverse button Light on dash should eluminate a green R. Push reverse button and hold. Easy peasy!!

I very rarely use the reverse. It's just easier to push it with my feet and legs. Never had a problem backing the trike up that way.

Don't give up the 2 wheels. Keep 'em both! I have the trike and an XL883C. Both have their pros and cons.

I recently bought a used 2010 tri glide. Does the engine need to be running to operate the reverse? Or should it work in neutral with main switch on?
Work in Neutral with bike ignition on but does not have to be running….Doc

No, Harley-Davidson®️ only offers reverse on Trikes.
I’m having trouble getting into “N” before reverse. Any suggestion?
Get rid of the recommended 20-50 in the tranny and put some gear oil in it, finding reverse will be better and your tranny will be happy.

That's something that the dealer will go over with you. And your owners manual also has the info. 3 easy steps...
1.motor running
2. shift into neutral
3. Push reverse button
Light on dash should eluminate a green R.
Push reverse button and hold.

That's so dumb. Chinese trikes have a reverse on cilndier engine . without an additional motor
