    The crazy thing about this song that y’all might not catch was that Em basically rapped in every rap style that existed at the time just to show he could. It was so unprecedented using flow switches like that, he changed the game again by making everyone start using multiple flows in their songs. He proved he was the Rap God…people used to sacrifice virgins and animals to the gods.

    • @drebrown99
      @drebrown99 Год назад +16

      Bone thugs-n-harmony have been using flow switches for years. Krayzie Bone used this Eminem beat and murdered it twice. Check out Krayzie Bone - Clash Of The Titans

      And just to top it off, he also used freestlye, the whole fucking song is a freestyle, only legends can do that, not even legends, just eminem

    • @bbwolf326
      @bbwolf326 Год назад +30

      @@drebrown99 plenty of artists used flow switches in a verse or two but at the time of Rap God, no major rapper or group was doing more than 3 flow switches in a song. After this came out, the technique saw dramatic adoption in mainstream and underground hip hop. It's so common now its crazy.

    The sacrifice virgins bar means that he is the rap God. If you were half as good as him you would be a God too. Some forms of old religion sacrificed virgins to please their God. Basically he is twice as good as anyone could ever be if they were considered to be at a godly level of rap.

      You could also take it another manner, a bit more perverse mind you. If your songs were better you’d have more “inexperienced” ladies throwing themselves at you; therefore sacrificing their virginity. It’s a hard double if it was intentional.

      To take this a step further, you could even tie this bar into a previous bar where he says “.. where once I was king of the underground but I still rap like I'm on my Pharaoh..”. -- as Pharaoh’s were Egyptians and known to sacrifice virgins. (I realize there is “also” a reference to Pharoahe monch in that bar)

    At 5:43, there is actually more to the bar that you missed. In the early 90s, Busta Rhymes was originally part of a group called The Leaders of the New School, which is why he says 'bust the rhyme' the way he does; he was imitating / paying homage to how Busta says his own name, and then follows up with 'now I lead a new school full of students' - referencing Busta's original group. He also uses this to setup the following bars where he shouts out all the legends that came before him and paved the way.

      Em deserves the highest, demands, the highest of respect from the rap community. He's never been in the news for being wack or out of pocket to be out of pocket. Even now he only feels the need to make music when someone has something outta pocket to say. Which makes everything he's made in the last 15 years golden and precious. He doesn't need to be shady, he's got the sun for centuries. Em is a rap goat. It's almost impossible to put him up against anyone that didn't start in the 90s.

    Small but funny word play right at the beginning, but when he says, “For me to rap like a computer must be in my genes, I got a laptop in my back pocket,” he’s playing with the word “genes” since it sounds like “jeans”, so putting a computer (laptop) in his back (jean) pocket sounds similar to “computer… in my genes”. So small yet so clever. Truly the GOAT 🐐

    The "...use it as a vehicle to bust the rhyme" part you got as a literal bus moving people. Also, he said the "bust the rhyme" part just as Busta Rhymes says his name often during performances or in songs. It's a tribute, since the next line "now I lead a new school full of students" references Busta Rhymes' early career as a member of the "Leaders of the New School" group.
    The "packin' a Mac in the back of the Ac" is a reference to literally keeping a gun in the trunk from Big Pun's "Capital Punishment" album track skit " Pakinamac". Also a fantastic album with many songs worth hearing. "Still Not A Player" was his biggest hit I think, but "Super Lyrical", "Punish Me", "Glamour Life", "Carribbean Connection" etc.

    @cartierfamily 6:08 the line about “use a vehicle to bust a rhyme” y’all were right on, but it’s also a nod to BustaRhymes (he’s specifically shown in the music video). Then the line after Em’s line “now lead a new school of students” is also props to Busta and his old group pre fame, the group Leaders of the New School. Which is a NYC super group part of the Native Tongues (Tribe Called Quest, de la soul, queen latifa, leaders of new school, jungle bros, etc). Love Em’s props to the east coast and west coast rappers that influenced him. All in those few lines. Y’all are right, his bars have so many levels on levels. Goat status.

Not sure if it was mentioned but he has admitted this was a stream of consciousness free style he recorded. Also Busta Rhymes was in a group called The New School before he goes to mention his other influence. The virgin line has to do with past religions who would sacrifice virgins to their god(s) so the other rappers are nowhere near god status. Happy 50th to the 🐏 Em

    Whoever put the lyrics to this particular video didn't get it right. He actually says:
    "How many verses do I gotta murder to prove that *if you would have as nice of songs* you could sacrifice virgins too?"
    I.E.; If your catalogue was as good as mine, you could be a rap god too since ancient peoples sacrificed virgins to appease their gods, etc. It's NOT "If you would half of nice ass songs..." like this lyric video said.

He writes rhymes like the Bible. Also beyond his rhymes, I thought it was amazing how he kept changing his whole style of rap throughout the song, kinda showing like hey watch this I can do any and every style of rap, I make styles.
