    Love the stories of the Pilots from times gone by... My dad joined a flying club in College and the guys all went in on a little Piper so they could take turns flying it... Oh the stories we heard growing up!! I have always loved Flying and I give my dad credit for that. Thanks for sharing your stories... I would love to hear even more about your flying days! Great content on the lifestyle of hanging out in the desert ... I recently got a taste of it and I can see why it is so addictive! :)

    Loved the aviation info! I love learning history that's not so far removed from our time!
    How adorable that Ruby wanted to be acknowledged too!
    Wonderful interviews! It all looked like fun, especially to someone hibernating up here in Montana. And we're getting snow to be followed up with a week of below zero at night. Thanks Rick and Linda!! See you around!!😃

    I agree with you on the big tent. We did it when we was there, but that was good enough. I think everyone should see it once, just so they can say they did. Nice name tags. I like the cargo build. His walls are very pretty. We talked about the little wood stove, but had decided against it. Dang all the way from Colorado and it didn't pop off. That's crazy lucky! And I'm glad for him. Kind of scary too. That could have caused a terrible accident. Wow you got to meet up with lots of peeps. Sure wish we could have met up with you and Linda. Maybe another time.

    Great vid guys, enjoyed it immensely.
    A little flying story for you Rick, the rock Quartzite sign reminded me of my flying days. During my lessons my instructor (8,000hrs at that stage) showed me how to use my minimum instrumentation if caught in cloud with no idea what was beneath me. All I was allowed to use was mag compass and VSI. Using those 2 allows for straight & level pretty much only and not to trust it as a matter of flying, emergency only. Well, I got caught aloft after dark on a long trip and got home well after legal time. No instrument lights, no landing lights, no nothin', except for a cigarette lighter. I used the horizon and the occasional flick of the lighter to check instruments with one eye closed. Anyway, as I got to the airport I checked the CFI's house which was dark and decided to use his end of the runway rather than coming in with a slight tailwind. On final I'd flick the lighter now and then (1 eye closed) to check things, got down safe, in the dark, taxied as quick as possible to tie down point, opened the canopy and got blasted. The old bugger virtually beat me from his place the the tiedown area quicker than me and truly read me the riot act. For about 20 minutes he loaded and shot rockets up my **** (yes 4 letters for us, not 3), and ended the tirade with, "thank God you listened to your instructors and held your nerve, BUT you should have landed long before you knew you'd get caught! Sleep under the wing, just get out of the air. I do not want to go to your funeral!! Your Wife doesn't need your funeral, you big b*stard!!!" A lesson learned the hard way, but not the hardest way. I stood there and accepted his admonishment and learned a lesson I'll never forget, but sadly I'll never fly as PIC again due to health.
    Thank you guys so much for all you do.

    • @gonagain
      @gonagain  Год назад +1

      Wow, Pilot, that's quite the story and I loved reading it. I used to instruct and it's the finest thing I ever did, having several airline pilots, including two females, a Navy fighter pilot and a National Guard pilot who's now a congressman on my list of students.

    • @PilotMcbride
      @PilotMcbride Год назад

      Puff that chest out mate, great achievements.
      My bloke actually flew the family's C140 (farm plane) to the club at 16 for his first lesson, 😆😆. And we heard that from HIS instructor, 😆😆.
      Because of my "gammy" legs I did so many circuits I could name every single crack in the runway, but, as you know, I have no excuse for my actions, but at the time it seemed my only course of action. My instructor/CFI just happened to be sitting in the dark on the runway side of his workshop, right at the threshold of the runway I was about to use having a beer when he heard me approaching the airport, knew exactly who it was. Jumped in his ute, raced to the airport, opened all the access gates in case emerg services required and waited. No "good job, well done" or anything like that, just gave me the justified serve for my mistake and resultant actions.

    When I was very young, we went to Fort Lewis in Washington state, and they had those REALLY old helicopters but back then they were new. giggles. Well, they were charging 1 penny per pound for anyone to fly in them and see what it was like. I wanted to, but that was to expensive for dad's budget. To put that in perspective, a loaf of bread was 25 cents. A gallon of milk was about a dollar. And we traded eggs for milk with a neighboring farm to help our budget. But anyway, a penny a pound was a lot of money, even for me at only 96 pounds. hehehe

    I have a friend that got disoriented in a cloud and came out of it doing 150 knots straight down. He pulled out of it and flew to the nearest airport, sold the plane and never flew again.

      Amelia Earhart got trapped in a cloud and deliberately put the plane into a spin, knowing it would stabilize in that configuration and not come apart. When she fell out of the bottom of the cloud she recovered and proceeded on. Her instructor told her to never do that again!
