Chris Kamara Opens Up On His ‘Apraxia’ In New Tell-All Memoir | Good Morning Britain

- Chris Kamara, joins us for his first interview to speak about Kammy: My Unbelievable Life - his brand new memoir, which sees him share all on the 'unbelievable' stories spanning his 20 year career on the pitch across nine different clubs as well as his life off it, as a broadcasting national treasure! The book also sees Kammy delve into life before/after he was diagnosed with 'Apraxia of Speech', and in which he admits it led him to contemplating suicide - "I could only see myself as a burden. A shell of the man I used to be that they would be left to look after. I could never reconcile that image in my head. It was unthinkable. And it's at that point I'd think, 'They'd be better off without me'." The memoir also sees Kammy share hilarious anecdotes about meeting Princess Anne, how much he still misses his best mate Gary Speed, receiving his MBE at Windsor Castle in March, meeting Prince William (a fan!) as well as his gratitude, and love, for one his closest friends, ‘Shep’ (Ben).

Such a legend. I agree with the presenter saying that any brain injury effects the way people perceive you. I have multiple MS lesions in my brain and I couldn't agree with her more.

Tell you what Chris means to normal folk, if we are talking footie in the smoke shelter at work, containing a very diverse amount of people, soon as Kammy's name is mentioned, a smile comes to everyones face and all struggle to be heard over each other about how much they love him, Sir you are a national treasure.

I have a speech impairment, I speak and cannot control the speed of my words and mumble a lot of the words . I used to be so embarrassed in school and had to have speech therapy but failed . I learned myself to stay calm when I speak and some words I have to not use and reword myself

Kammy is a true legend
I’ve always found Chris Kamara inspiring. Even though I’m a big football fan it wasn’t his football it’s his personality. I loved watching and listening to him when he was commentating or being interviewed. He’s just as inspiring now. Just so open and honest, not afraid to laugh at himself and such an addictive laugh and not afraid to show other emotions either. He’s a great example for men.

I’ve lived with a speech impediment all my life. I’d love to speak properly. I get it. It must be harder to have it taken away though. I’ve known no different; whereas Chris has just started this difficult journey. It’s nice he’s turning his condition into a positive. Great guy.

Kammy is the most entertaining, charismatic football presenters I've ever seen. Literally my childhood all i can hear is his voice going mental when someone scores or levels
I'm so pleased to see Kammy being so positive after how he was when he first went public with what had happened with the Apraxia. He'll never be classed as one of the world's best players but he's definitely classed as one of the world's best people imo. With his passion, he's someone you'd want to have campaigning for you. Chris is an absolute legend he has no need to apologise for his issues I also have speech issues since my brain surgery
It’s uncomfortable seeing Kammy being upset when I’ve grown up to him always being so lively and bubbly on Soccer Saturday😢
One thing I will say is that it seems like his speech has actually improved since I last saw him in one of these interviews. Whatever he’s doing rn is certainly helping, and long may that continue
