Ironically, the game being a limited release actually made me less eager to get it for some reason.
I'm the opposite. I pre-ordered two copies of it the DAY it was announced.
I was on the fence but I bit the bullet because I haven't played Sunshine and kept hearing about how expensive physical GC games get, figured this would be the better option. Also because I've only played 64 via DS, but I guess what would have sold me and everyone else is them not even bothering with a limited release and also having it actually be every console 3D Mario game. Hell their handling of this collection honestly makes me fear how they'll treat Zelda next year since 4 out of 5 of the old 3D games have rereleases and now everyone expects them to use the original versions emulated despite the improvements the rereleases provide, including visually.
The fact that they did genuinely killed it for me. It's such a gross practice that I couldn't force myself to buy it and shan't partake in it (the fact that it's full price is terrible). The box art's also really bad, so I guess that helped.
I would have shelled out the money if they were remasters and not straight ports.
It was a natural turnoff given the way this practice is becoming the norm more every day. At least it gets easier for me to save more money for something else I want to fully support.

This is literally me when I bought metroid prime trilogy for only 18 quid. I mean I was about to buy a regular wii because I wanted to hype myself for smash ultimate's release after seeing ridley and dark samus being revealed but seeing that the disc version costed as much as 50 quid at my local cex, I just went ahead and bought a wii u instead just solely to play the prime trilogy

So many gamecube games have just flat out never been re-released: paper mario ttyd, mario parties & sports games, star fox adventures & assault, f-zero gx, pokemon colosseum & xd, eternal darkness, fire emblem: path of raidance the list goes on (I miss the virtual console)
And worst of all Nintendo will still viciously protect some of those titles as if they're actively being supported and released *cough cough* Smash bros Melee *cough cough*
I know this isnt really a Nintendo game per say, but Baiten Kaitos Origins needs a rerelease as well.

Good news: Baiten Kaitos Origins and Metroid Prime are now on Switch!
Man idk. Despite having issues, Vicarious Visions put a lot of love and effort into Crash N. Sane Trilogy. I can't say the same for Nintendo and 3D All-Stars.
This makes me worried for Zelda's 35th anniversary more than ever.

Especially since most of the work is already done since 4/5 3D games have been rereleased already with various improvements and two of them are easy ports. Now everyone expects emulated versions of the original games and for one to be left out, which I doubt they'll do but I can still see it happening
Same with Spyro: Reiginited Trilogy.
Crash and Spyro were dead brands which didn't have a game in the last 8 years and latest products were mediocre, literally not the same thing

Shoot. Even Super Mario: All-Star does it better than the 3D All-Stars and it was on an Super Nintendo from 1993 and they added World into the package an year later.

At any rate, this is a solid collection of games! I haven't had the chance to play Galaxy here yet, so I'm looking forward to seeing how well it performs on a pro-controller setting.

I think you’re misremembering how the stationary FLUDD controls worked back on the GameCube. You squeezed the right trigger all the way in stop Mario, and you aimed it with the main control stick. That’s the functionality that got patched in with the GameCube controller support update.
Blows my mind how the gamecube version of sunshine is still around 50$ even after this came out
If only Nintendo actually tried to care for their GameCube games and made them more readily available...

March 31st is the end of the fiscal year, so Nintendo made its limited releases last till then in order to drive sales up before investors check the year's profits.

I just wish Sunshine had some features to make going for everything less tedious. Not even a full HD remake, just one or two little additions cause if any of the 3 games needed an update like that it’s Sunshine.
Or better yet. Why not given it an proper remake to improved alot of things? Same with 64.

This game feels so anti consumer. Lazy remasters, full price, and limited retail. The Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition, a full graphical and system overhaul of huge RPGS, featuring previously cut content and a remade soundtrack only sold a few million copies, while 3D All Stars is the fastest selling Mario Game to date. It doesn't even include Galaxy 2 or 3D Land.
I don’t even like Xenoblade (I’m an old fart and will always love Xenogears more), and everything you just said is objectively true.

To paraphrase Dunkey: Nintendo has some of the best developers that can make top-notch games with enough time. But they also have some of the most braindead executives that make quite baffling business decisions! They say emulation is a big problem, yet they give no solution that results in a win-win for both the company and the consumers! This is why I miss things like the Virtual Console since it would allow us to play all these official emulations of games, so piracy wouldn't be as widespread of an issue! And while you could argue, "Why don't you just buy the game off Amazon or at GameStop?" The money still won't go to Nintendo if the game isn't being produced by them anymore and will just go to the retailer!
It wasn't when they sold a SNES Mario-All Stars rom on disc as a full priced Wii game?

This is honestly one video that highlights why you're among the best, Johnny. You are SO GOOD at giving unbiased reviews while also expressing your personal opinions! I found this particular video insightful as someone who lives Sunshine and has a girlfriend that grew up with Mario 64.
That said, now that this is out of the way, when can we expect a Round 2 on Shovel Knight: Treasure grove since you have a whole smorgasbord of updates, game modes, amiibo support and 3 entirely new campaigns to talk about? :D

Man, I wish 64 DS was what got ported and remastered instead of the original. More content, more characters, and that online mode. I would've loved to see DS's online mode in 3D All-Stars in some form.

@@diegomedina9637 Oy, I've been a Super Mario 64 DS faithful since I first played it. Sure, the original N64 version is plenty enjoyable, but the DS remake is the definitive experience.

ngl the only thing DS had was extra characters. The extra content (aside from the minigames) wasn't really that much. It was mostly just short, small stages with nothing else going on inside of them, as well as not fixing issues the original game had. If it had good controls, it wouldn't be much of an issue but... you know...
Edit: Mind you, a remake of the DS one would still be better than the original, it's just I'm annoyed how people seem to think 64DS is much better than 64 for pretty superfluous changes.
@@diegomedina9637 I actually thought people liked the DS version (especially you can play as Luigi after not being able to in the original) - I was actually surprised that concensus is more mixed, although it's moslty the controls (I did play on an emulator although even playing once in a DS Lite it still felt OK).

Joycon Drift it's such a myth. The only concrete proof someone has gave me of the existing of the Joycon Drift is "I don't have it but I know someone who knows someone who has it. Calibration? What's that?
Or if you get numbness in your hands from playing in handheld mode because they made those joycons too small and without any grips.

That can be fixed by watching simple videos on RUclips. It's mostly just alcohol and a Q-tip.
@@diegomedina9637 I’m telling you, it is no myth. I have experienced it personally, calibration has done nothing to solve it, and I’m clearly not alone if the lawsuit against Nintendo over this issue is anything to go by.
@@diegomedina9637 It's not a myth, both of my left and right joycons simply sway to a random side or lag even though I'm not pushing a direction.
Calibration sort of helped with the right stick, but the left one has a mind of its own.
It's simply due to the poor quality of the materials they used to track the sticks' axis.

Hey Johnny! I know I'm just a pleb, but I got hype seeing that copy of Custom Robo in your Gamecube collection. This game is a hidden gem on the GC imo, and would love to see you tackle it in a video, especially the ridiculous story mode.
I remember in the Super Mario World review, you said you wish they made a sequel to all-stars with all the 3d Mario games..that was almost 10 years ago, I feel old.

Emulate Sunshine and Galaxy on Dolphin and download the PC port of 64 with the Render 96 models, it’s a far better option.

This collection may not be perfect, but I’m glad it exists in the first place, since it has finally allowed me to play Mario 64 and Sunshine for the first time, and it has given me the ability to play Galaxy 1 on the go, which I love, since it is my second favorite Mario game (Odyssey is first).

I just started playing super Mario galaxy on my Wii, so far it’s great!
Honestly, the best version of Super Mario 64 HAS to be the render96 pc port. Controls are tighter, models are better, Luigi and Wario are included. Altho even on my (pretty good PC) has some minor issues running it at full speed.
So awesome that youtube simultaneously turned off notifications for this channel AND it didn't show up in my sub box...not like I watch basically every review that johnny puts out or anything
If you still have a Wii U in your closet to dust off, Galaxy 2 on the VC is only $20, I think.
This game's the reason why I got into emulation.

Yeah. What was he on about with stopping and by using R and the C-stick, though? To stop and aim with the Gamecube controller, you just push R in all the way.

Sorry but I just can't get over how linear Sunshine is. Part of what made Super Mario 64 magical to me back in the day is the sense of freedom to choose your own path through the adventure. Going from that to Sunshine was just such a huge, huge step back for me. Add in all the other problems mentioned in this video and it's tough to have any love for the game.
