- Check out this quick video review of the Meyer Optik Görlitz Oreston 50mm f/1.8 Adapted to the Sony A6000! Now this lens came to me from my good friend Gordy. First lets look at the styling of the lens. It has has a black finish, red lettering, and two chrome zebra stripped rings that go around the front (focusing ring) and rear (aperture ring) of the lens. I think it looks fantastic! This is a German made lens and features an all metal construction. Focusing will take you almost a full rotation to go from infinity to a very close minimum focusing distance of only .33 meters. Smallest aperture is f22 and opens up to a bright f/1.8. Stopped down the six aperture blades produce some unique straight edge hexagon shaped bokeh. Open this lens up and it turns into a bokeh monster! Tightly layered bokeh balls produce an awesome bubble effect. Needless to say, the bokeh special. I've also noticed a swirling effect in the background of many of my photos. Now I'm adapting the lens using a Fotasy I bought from Amazon for about $15 (see link below). The adapter is the magical piece of metal that allows us to use these old lenses on our new cameras. In this case I'm using an adapter that converts the M42 screw mount to the Sony NEX/E-Mount, it's labeled (M42-NEX). Ergonomically this lens is a nice match for the a6000. It feels very comfortable in the hand and around the neck. Once we have everything adapted, it's time to run out and get some sample shots.
There are so many reason to like these old lenses. Not only do they make your camera look super cool, but they can be an excellent way to acquire quality glass at a bargain price:)

love the Oreston. i own the same zebra model and i love the flat but organic look the lens produces, especially the colors and bokeh. mounts easily onto canon being an M42 shoots great on my 5D.
I have several vintage lenses but, my two favorites are the Meyer Gorlitz Orestor and Oreston. These two lenses 50mm f/1.8 and 135mm f/2.8 produce absolutely unique and beautiful renderings...
I recently purchased the Sony Alpha a6000 and is so grateful I found your channel. Your videos are amazing, keep up the good work.
+lowKut Thank you so much!
I'm so excited I found your channel! I own an A6400 and A6000 and have been wanting to get some vintage lenses; now I'll have some great references to look for!
Late to the party here.
I have had this lens for a year. Love it!!!
Need a new adapter for it to keep the pin depressed, otherwise the current adapter does the job.
If only the sony A series had a flip out screen so I could vlog :( would be my dream kit!!
This LENS IS soooooo good!!!
Oh man… now I have to get yet another 50. Sigh. ;) Great review. Gordy can be my friend too.
+timskinnercanada It's an awesome lens! I've got a couple more Gordy lens reviews coming soon! Thanks for the support!
Awesome video, really enjoying the diversity of shots, this channel has come a long way
+Flanty Thank you Flanty:)
That bokeh though.😍😍
+Rachi Siders You're right, the bokeh is awesome with this lens:)
I have this exact lens and a praktica super tl that my grandmother owned. I love it on my 6D, the tessar bokeh and how it's almost as swirly as my Helios 44-2!
I have the rebranded version-Pentaflex Auto Color...great lens..incredible bokeh
Amazing look, I just bought the Mayer Optik Gorlitz 135MM 2.8 but it doesn't screw on my M42 - Nex adapter. It looks like there is a piece missing to screw it on.
I'm getting a Sony a6000 next week and this is gonna be the first lens I gotta buy, that bokeh is 😍. Also your channel is pretty amazing! Keep it up!
+Emilio Fortune Thank you Emilio! Let me know how you like the camera:)

Meyer-Gorlitz later became part of greatest producer of lens in German Democratic Republic Pentacon. The second was Carl-Zeiss Jena, also a very quality one, but problem was with name, because in the West Germany there was ZEISS, which was also producing optics. Both companies were closed after the reunification of Germany in 1990. If you want new mechanic quality made lens with similar effect, then look at russian KMZ. KMZ, company which was producing Zenit cameras is still producing sturdy mechanical lens and unlike those from competition they are cheap and will last for some decades to come. KMZ is a part of Rostec, russian state corporation.
My lens does not stop down when I select an aperture smaller than f/1.8. There is a tab on the lens barrel to the rear of the aperture ring that needs to be recessed before the lens stops down. Do you know of a way to circumvent this tab to let the lens stop down when I select the aperture without depressing the tab...
SOLVED... Just get an adapter which will depress the aperture pin like the Fotodiox. Easy remedy!
Amazing!
+Joe Dias Thanks Joe:)
Отличный тест, спасибо. Использую на Canon 600d.
Daaaang I like this lens
+Jeremy Medina It's a winner:)
What do you prefer this or pentax 50mm 1:2? Thanks!
+Igor A. Strauss This.
I just purchased this lense bcoz of u! but in my case, i used the M42- Nex Fotga adapter. it fits. but somehow the aperture is not on top of the camera, but it slightly went off to the right.
I noticed there's small hole on the adapter. perhaps can I adjust the lens back to the middle with the aperture numbers on top of my camera using a small allen key?
+Fernanda Gunsan I've never used a Fotga Adapter. It seems odd that it doesn't line up correctly...
Doesn't matter I fixed it by using a 1.3mm Allen key.. :) I might have purchased a factory rejected adapter. Thank you Adapted Alpha. still waiting for another Meyer Optik Lenses, Get well soon!
+Fernanda Gunsan Congrats on fixing the adapter! Thanks for the well wishes:)
quick question, would this lens be equivalent to something like a 85mm on the Sony a600 or would it be 50mm?
+Emilio Fortune This lens would be a 75mm full frame equivalent. To figure out the crop factor for a6000 multiply the lens focal length by 1.5. Hope this helps:)
Thank you very much🙏🏾
Are there any other lenses that creates the bubble bokeh? Is meyer optik = pentacon?
I heard Pentacon 50 1.8 is really the same lens, just rebranded
+J Oh I've never tried the Pentacon 50/1.8, but I've seen some bubble examples of the Pentacon 135/2.8.
DDR reorganized all lens manufacturing companies into VEB pentacon, so yes, meyer = pentacon, that is the case with oreston and lydith, im not sure about trioplan
Pablo, the Trioplan and other heritage designs were long phased out when Meyer was acquired by Pentacon; not all lens manufacturing went into Pentacon though; Carl Zeiss remained independent, and eventually acquired Pentacon in 1985.
I have two ... the best glass for bokeh
Hellava lens throw
+Al Green You're right about that! A lot to like about this lens:)
Dude when will you upload again??????
i waited till end for bokeh fish
+Emmet S Finn has retired.
sorry to hear that :(
oh!
First comment. This is an amazing vintage lens.
+Anh Tú Nguyễn Thanks for getting in early;)
hi brother. could u help me why am I unable to open raw photos in my PC and the same raw photos can be opened in my Sony a6300?
You need to download a proper photo editing software which supports a6300 raw files such adobe photoshop or adobe lightroom. If you already have an older version of Photoshop such as photoshop cs6, then you can download Adobe RawtoDng converter from adobe website for free, and use it to convert a6300 raw files to dng and then open those DNGs. The third method if you just want to view the raw files on your computer in the default photo viewer is to download an update that is available online for windows which allows you to view raw files from the a6300 in the photo viewer.
You're not actually opening a RAW file in your A6300. Even if you shoot only in RAW the camera still creates a small jpeg file which is what it displays on the screen/viewfinder.
You can find free software like darktable that will allow you to open RAW files.
Ahmer Qureshi wow thank u so much brother
mavfan1 very useful info brother thank u thank u
Batman shot with a Helios. ;-)
