- No. 10 seed Kei Nishikori takes on No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic in an epic US Open 2014 semifinal.
24-year-old Nishikori is looking to make history by becoming Japan's first Grand Slam singles finalist. Having reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open in 2012, this is Nishikori's best run at a Grand Slam so far and he'll be hoping his momentum will shock the world No. 1. 2011 champion Djokovic has reached the final in both of the previous two years and will be aiming to go one step further this time around.

We all expected a Federer-Djokovic final and finally had Nishikori-Cilic. I still can’t believe how incredible it was.
Unforgettable day, it felt so bizarre and wrong but I loved every second of it.
@Rafa undisputed Goat Rafa is gone.
@@scp3799 for now, he’ll be back

Thank you for uploading !!!!!
As an Asian, i have to admit that there wont be another Kei in the next 10-20 years. I mean what he has done during his peak was impeccable, he has probably played at his best level during 2014-2016. The following years saw injury left him behind the rise of next Gen and stability of Big 3. Nevertheless, he deserved at least one slam!
He was great today too
he has no chance. too short no power serves.

Gotta disagree with that, Tennis is still mostly a popular sport in the west and not so much in the east. With the sport gaining traction now in Asia, the likes of Kei, Li Na, Chung Hyeon etc making it at the top. Its only a matter of time more and more Asian players will rise up to the stage. After all, there are way more population of Asian people than there are in anywhere else in the world, technically based on the law of large numbers, there should be more talent and chances for Asian players to make it big.

Mad lads at US Open actually did it... thanks for uploading this match!! :D
Hope you guys can also upload the Nishikori-Raonic match that also happened at this US Open cause there's practically no footage of it elsewhere

Unreal performance from Kei. When he's locked in, his groundstrokes are a treat to watch; lethally fast, flat and precise with fantastic reaction times and redirection off both wings.
He would've been a serious issue for the big 4 if he were taller. His serves were just not at the level required to stay at the top
@@tatsuyasigh1906 A big serve would've helped him, but I think his main issues have been a bit of mental frailty, injuries and lack of consistency.
Enjoyed to the fullest. Commentators were just amazing... 😁😁😁😁😁
Watching this as a prelude to the upcoming match 2021!
What a match today
THE BEST MATCH I’ve ever watched
There are better matches out there like Djokovic vs Nadal 2012 AO Final. That match is the greatest match I've ever seen.
Bet you haven’t watched lots of matches tho
i've been waiting
I remeber it was shock
I could watch that set point at the very end of the 3rd over, over, and over again.... 1:56:39
Nishikori is an absolute BEAST
Wow congrts nishikori
Shortest slam finalist in ages . What a player !
And lost to the tallest Slam winner ever (tied with Delpo and Meddy)
Biggest shock of 2014....proud of nishikori for hanging in
Worst Match of djokovic... Hugggge opportunity lost
and after this Kei never repeated it... let's face it, he is way to fragile physically... he just gets injured way too much
Then I believed Nishikori must win a GS or a Masters in future. But still....I can't believe it.
I wish the changeovers were not cut out.
Love

It's crazy, how looking at these two playing across from each other, how much they resemble each other's game. Like Djokovic literally just looks like a taller version of Nishikori.
It's the same with RBA they both have a similar baseline playstyle with Djokovic with the exception that Novak is more clutch and better at serving. When RBA and kei can keep up with Novak on the baseline, Novak outserves them. When players can keep up on serve with Novak he usually outrallys them.
Bravo Japanese player

I love the old scoreboard still existed in 2014
What do you like about old scoreboard compare to now

These courts are so fast
Nishikori hit 4 clean winners to break djokovic’s serve in the first set
From 2011 Wimbledon to 2016 French Open, Djokovic either won every Grand Slam or lost to the eventual champion, except at the 2014 US Open.
Didn’t he lose to tomic at Wimbledon
@@michaelumana8853 no🤡
Roger Federer did it from 2004 Wimbledon to 2010 Australian Open.
@@tombillington8187 yea I don’t know why I thought that
@@michaelumana8853 probably because he faced Tomic in 2011 Wimbledon, which was somewhat a close battle, and then Tomic beat him in Hyundai Hopman cup in 2013. Those two memories might have gotten mixed up I guess.
Is it a full??
I think the article of "a" should be used instead of "an" before historic (unless Americans say istoric).
Yes, you are absolutely right...☝🏻
It's maybe a feature of Queens New York dialect, they drop the initial 'h' in words, such as 'huge' (an example is Donald Trump), so it may also be applied to 'historic'. As a matter of fact, Flushing Meadows is located in Queens. Or it's just a mistake..

Anyone who would have Bet on Nishikori against Djokovic AND Cilic against Federer in 2014 US Open... would have made massive money.
Such a random loss, indeed a great opportunity to win another us open, underachieved here massively
finally
There was definitely something wrong with Djokovic here but take nothing away from Kei who played a brilliant match. It's a shame he couldn't go all the way to win the title. It was his best chance at winning a grand slam.
All in all, no, there was absolutely nothing wrong with Djokovic. He was doing everything he always does. The thing is, sometimes, you meet someone who is absolutely on the zone and no matter what you do, you will be beaten. Nishikori was absolutely FLAWLESS in that SF but then again that's the kind of tennis you have to play to beat the best ever.
Djokovic had no answer to Kei's thunderous return winners which were like a mirror to Djokovic's own. Nishikori was as fit as ever and was absolutely anywhere and everywhere covering the court efficiently. Add to that the absolute ridiculous power and precision the Japanese had when hitting the ball down the line and crosscourt giving Djokovic no chance. He moved Djokovic very well but he also could finish the points. Djokovic clearly couldn't adapt to Kei's game.
You can see how powerful were Djokovic's serves and still Nishikori hit winner after winner in the return. That is the exact moment you realize you are helpless because Djokovic is supposed to be the one neutralizing powerful servebots. All in all, Nishikori probably played the best match of his life and deserves every ounce of respect he got out of that.
Make no mistake. Again, there was absolutely nothing wrong with Djokovic. He lost because Nishikori played next to perfect tennis. Stunning performance.
@@DandanGallagherAbsolutely everything you've said there I agree with. I can't help but feel there are some overzealous Djokovic fans in this comment section who probably still to this day are in disbelief of how he lost this match. Sadly, there were and still are a lot of people who don't/didn't realise how quality and talented Nishikori was.
the smile of djokovic at the end is the smile of the bad and double face person
Too talent nishikori ....too bad injuries have derailed his carreer. He would be a top 5 player if not.
He was in the top 5 for 2 years!

Nishikori should have won the final...once in a life time chance....guess he poured everything he got on SF/QF.
Cilic was in the zone whole tournament. Niahikori didn't really stand a chance.
@@SHVideografie Nishikori beat both Djokovic and Stanimal. Cilic would not have beat either. Nishikori is the deserving winner in my eyes.
Man, I wish Nishikori will win one of the big ones before he calls it a day.
Take and deep breath and ask your self. Can he really win with that serve and height?

Li Na was in grand slam finals before this…
But yes, he was the first male Asian player to reach a grand slam final 👍😄🔥
Even though American by nationality, Michael Chang is Asian and won a grand slam 25 years prior to this. He also was in the US Open Final in 1996.

Don't know which one it is, but one of those commenters (lower voice) has a pretty condescending attitude towards all things Japanese... Nishicori in particular. Why allow and pay so well someone who can't keep that kind os subtle (?!) racism out of his remarks?
I think it was okay! Not necessarily racist, everything he said was true, not biased towards either side, appreciate an honest straightforward commenter.
Djokovic always lose the most at us open
Always winning or almost at AO and Wimbledon
And pretty invincible at RG too But there is nadal ( and thiem for some times )
Djokovic till now done nothing in Roland garros. Roland garros belongs to only nadal
@@sourabhdebnath685 um... hes defeated nadal twice there and won twice there. "done nothing"
Why we say that when a big three loses they were having injury? That’s disrespect for the opponent. Just appreciate the other player because he played well than the big three.
