Gen 2 stands on a level of its own. Such a dramatic sound shiny effect. I love it.
i wouldn’t really call it dramatic as much as i’d call it very fitting, because it’s really just a sparkle sound made to the best of the gbc’s capabilities, but it IS a really good sparkle sound.

Hard to believe the first one is the best sound considering they didn't even have enough storage to complete the Kanto region or make any complex sounds. Scarlet and Violet don't even have sounds

I've never seen a shiny show up in a gba pokemon game. Maybe someday! I found a shiny Oddish in my Alpha Sappire and a shiny Ribombee in Moon. They are my only legit shinies.
I actively hunt for mine in the older games where they are more rare and I have way to many lmao i spend a lot of my free time shiny hunting because I enjoy it but I’ve had some crazy long hunts my 21k encounter hunt for a venonat is currently my longest but I am currently at 16k so we will see
The only legit shiny I found in a gba game was in fire red and it was the weedle in the catching tutorial. So sad that I couldn’t catch it.
My only full odds shinies so far are a Roserade and Crobat both in my Platinum version. They were both randoms and I got them within 3 days of each other. I have not been as lucky since.
HOWEVER, I am currently shiny hunting Giratina which has not gone very well so far.
I was lucky enough to find a shiny kyogre on my first try but soooo unlucky that it fainted…
I had no idea what a shiny was since my first pokemon game was emerald and I got a shiny wurmple completely unaware. But fortunately I wasn't a dumbass so I didn't kill it but unfortunately I've lost the save file for it over 9 years ago.
Kinda off topic, but for me SM/USUM stands as the best into-battle transition, the way the grass is thrusted into your vision with the glinting sun behind the volcano.

This video is a godsend. I do the occasional Shiny-only run and knowing how the animation looks/sounds ahead of time saves me from going mad thinking: “Was that it?!?!”
I found a shiny Zubat in my copy of pokemon silver from 2001 just the other day, with the original 1/8192 odds. Yeah I freaked out

@@StraightEdgeSieghart Not entirely. Someone is in the process of making a dongle that convgerts gen 2 trades to gen 3 trades so you can transfer a pokemon and keep it legitimately in home and bank. They even tested a gen 2 pokemon and the only one that wasn't allowed in was a machamp with fissure because it wasn't in the legal moveset
Nice this should have more views this inspires me to shiny hunt/breed on gen 4, 6 and 7
Tip: don’t shiny hunt in generation 5 and under because those games have 1/8192 odds I think compare to gen 6 and up because those games have 1 in 4000 somewhere around that and ultra sun and moon after the Pokémon league maybe before you have very high odds to find shiny in ultra wormholes it’s more common than finding chips and salsa at a Mexican restraunt (not literally)
@@yhouria I think hunting in gen 5 and below is the best part of shiny hunting. It feels good if you catch one without boosted odds from wormholes and stuff and it just feels much more rewarding to catch it with an 1/8192 chance than with an 1/4096 chance.
@@laurenz5460 Also, the sprites look incredible, while the 3d models look different and also the colors are faded in gen 6 and 7.
@@yhouria Why would you tell someone to NOT hunt in games with a lower encounter rate?! That’s the whole point of shiny hunting. They’re SUPPOSED to be hard to get. I can tell you aren’t a real shiny hunter.

I remember my first shiny Pokémon... How dumb 7yo me was. I didn't even know what a shiny was. I'm still determined to find that shiny Sentret over all these years later.

The gen 8 footage was for some reason way louder than all the other footage, and that blasted my ears out pretty nice too.
My first shiny was a swellow I caught in gen 5. Didn't even know it was shiny. I thought I hallucinated seeing the particle effects. Only realized it was shiny later on when I saw a video of someone encountering a shiny
i think gen 6 is always gonna be my personal favorite shiny sparkle sound… it just fits really well. also… why is gen 7’s so bad??? how do you go from a good shiny sparkle to one of, if not the worst in the series????

Random shiny pidgey in gen 2 was lejit my oldest encounter but one of the best, that retro sparkle is so beautiful
Favorite sound effects have to be 5 or 6's, though SM/USUM and Galar have my favorite animations

Fire red and leaf green were released in 2004 in Japan
Emerald (obviously Gen 3) was released in 2005 in Japan
Pokémon diamond and perl were released in 2006 and are the first Gen 4 games
Hg and ss came out in 2009 in Japan and they are the last gen 4 games
Black and white came out in 2010 and are the first Gen 5 games
Fr and lg work on the same engine as ruby Saphire and Emerald so let's call it the "Gen 3 engine"
Diamond perl and platinum work on a different engine, the Gen 4 engine, just like Hg and ss which is why they are all Gen 4 games
And black and white also work on a totally different engine

My first shiny encounter was like this. I started playing SoulSilver back in 2010 when it was out and I remember early in the game, I saw a shiny Rattata and since I didn’t have Pokeballs yet, I was saddened by this.
Literally the same thing happened to me with shiny catepie in HGSS! I also encountered a shiny rattata in a different playthrough in sprout tower. I regret evolving him into raticate
i found a shiny hoothoot in my original soulsilver as a kid and thought it was a glitch so i ran lol still haven't reclaimed that one but would love to at some point because noctowl has an underrated shiny

Wow this video hit me with nostalgia harder than I expected. My first Shiny was a Pidgey in HeartGold. It was my very first encounter after beating Lance and I thought it was just some powered up version that started appearing since I beat the game. I immediately chucked an Ultra Ball, caught it first try, and still have that Pidgeot to this day. It’s now in my copy of Brilliant Diamond.
Whoa, that's awesome! I found a shiny pinsir in pokemon White in post-game, but how did you transfer your shiny pidgey from heartgold to brilliant diamond? Heartgold and soulsilver aren't compatible with pokemon bank

You just CANNOT, out do the original. Gen 2 has my favorite sparkles, noise, and level of surprise bc it’s grey when you first see it, so you can’t see if its shiny before it sparkles and gains color

The way they made a great shiny sparkle animation in Gen 5, but then the transition to 3D took 3 gens to make it look good again is kinda funny.
XY sparkles are really bad
SM sparkles not bad but underwhelming and the large Star is stupid
SS went back to make it look really good again and gave it a satisfying sound effect.
Hands down sun and moon, let's go pikachu and eevee has the worst shiny animation
