    Wouldn't getting more of the same RAM be more beneficial since the game needs at least 24 GB to not be running in page file? I'd be surprised if a small memory overclock would make a larger performance upgrade than removing the entire memory bottleneck of being forced to write to a page file would be.

    This is exactly the kind of videos we need right now for pc gaming. So many people will complain about unoptimized games (not including the valid UE4 stuttering problems) while running their PCs with tons of bloatware, jedec memory speeds, and games saved on a 10 year old hdd.
    Great stuff as always.

      I mean, games really are unoptimized as shit rn but that's not limited to gaming. It's pretty much consensus that our hardware rapid evolution gave way to programmers and programming languages that completely disregard hardware performance. Nowadays hardware is so strong that developers can get away with garbage codes...

    How can I get your help tuning my system? I thought about building a new AM5 system but I just dont have the funds to do so right now. I have also thought about upgrading to the 5800X3D and possibly a 4000 series GPU to hold me over for a few more years. I recently started streaming Star Citizen and OBS stats are showing both frames missed due to rendering lag (GPU) and skipped frames due to encoding lag (CPU). I switched from NVENC to x264 video encoding and that has all but eleminated skipped frames but I am still getting missed frames. So my limited knowlege tells me that my GPU isn't good enough? My current set up is 5600x, 3070FTW, 32gb 3600 16-18-18-38, SC installed on SSD. Thanks for any help and keep up the great work, really enjoyed your video.

      CPU's with 3D V-Cache don't require the fast memory as much as non x3D Ryzen CPU's do which are notoriously memory bound. The good news is that you're not missing as much performance, the bad news is you wouldn't see the same kind of gains from overclocking your memory as this guy did.

    I've heard that having more than 16 GB of RAM helps stuttering and fps dips.
    Besides AMD FSR and other upscalers, how would you tune a PC to help a GPU bottleneck?

    • @Accuracy158
      @Accuracy158 Год назад +1

      Outside of really cranking cloud quality or maybe running triple monitors it's kind of hard to create a GPU bottleneck in this game with GPUs intended for modern gaming. This situation is one where you would likely see a difference from dropping graphical settings though (which probably doesn't do that much for most other people). You can always overclock GPUs too though I don't think there is as much room to gain these days as there used be before GPUs dynamically clocked themselves so much.
      Different cards all behave differently when it comes to tuning clocks. My 4090 is actually quite fine undervolting to 70~75% even when you're sliding the clock speeds up. It doesn't seem to be very voltage limited where as some older Nvidia cards are totally limited by the amount of voltage their BIOS allows. Most newer cards all automatically adjust based on temperature so you can hold onto your peak clock speeds longer if you can keep temps down.
      In general though if you are having GPU problems with the game though you likely need a new card more than overclock and you will see even bigger gains in most other games that are more GPU dependent or not so held back by the main thread on the CPU.

  • @Accuracy158
    @Accuracy158 Год назад +1

    Yeah I generally just wouldn't buy Corsair memory in general if you think you might try overclocking it sometime. They're just too heavily binned when you buy the 3200 kit you can kind expect bad memory that won't really go higher than that. If I was really interested in overclocking RAM I maybe just start with one of Buildzoid's long rambling videos to get a better idea of what I'm buying.
    I also "upgraded/downgraded/sidegraded" my 5900x to a 5800x3D primarily for the jumps seen in EFT and Star Citizen. I only did this because I bought a 4090 and it's kind of sad knowing you aren't going to see performance increase in either of these game with a new GPU anyway. The 5800x3D does run annoyingly hotter and causes more fan spikes than 5900x that always seemed to be nice cool and obviously hurts other benchmarks. Gaming performance is good though and some specific cases like Star Citizen makes a pretty big difference.
    The line that "The only thing untuned is your PC." is still stupid though. But the game dev software/engine side of it is largely out of our hands and CIG is slowly trying to make improvements. I have a feeling there's a lot more you can do as game/engine dev/software engineer than as end user trying to get a couple more mhz out of their ram. ...This means we must go post more on spectrum!! 😏😅

    For AM4 the first upgrade you do is to a 32GB 4000MHz kit and down-clock it until your particular CPU is happy with it
    5600x 2x32GB 3000MHz vs 4000MHz
    Was an increase from about 20FPS to 30FPS in a particular spot on lorvill
    Now i plugged in 2x32GB because 2 sticks will always overclock better than 4 sticks
    And having 4 ranks is better than having 2 ranks [dual rank dimms have memory chips on both sides, single rank only have chips on 1 side]
    16GB with todays DDR prices is a dumb move not only because 16GB vs 32GB in star citizen have a big performance uplift mainly in consistency but also because it costs bigger all
    A kit rated at my manual overclock costs just a little over half of what i payed for my ram back in 2019 [bought spec 3000MHz]
    Here in the UK 16GB vs 32GB is £50 vs £80 no reason to be getting 16GB this side of 2020 especially with 2023 prices ohh and its just £190 for 2x32GB 4000MHz with todays prices

    • @commanderoof4578
      @commanderoof4578 Год назад

      @@DrtRidr3256 if your goal is to just run XMP…
      Then get a 3800MHz kit and if it boots run Y-Cruncher VST to make sure the infinity fabric is stable because for example 4000MHz is stable for my 5600x but there are plenty that can only do 3766MHz
      If it doesn’t run or it fails then return it for a refund and get a 3600MHz kit
      That about all you can do if your not ok going in and fiddling with it
      Minimum number of things to change would be 5 but only need to fiddle around with 3, and after you find out your infinity fabrics limit it drops to 2
      For AM4 there are certain timings that you can essentially delete by setting them below a certain point and other settings you simply just set to a pre-determined number
