The more I practice front crawl, the better I understand your theory class. I am at the level of getting more awareness to my efficiency in water. When everything I do is right, I feel the speed increase, no body part dropping, and carving water smoothly. Everyday during pool time, I try to recapture and keep repeating it more often. It isn’t easy but I can feel the improvement week by week.

With my over arm side stroke I swim, I see everything in the pool. Most common problem I see, and this is through all swim levels from dog paddle to swim team, is with posture/body position. There seems to be pretty much a constant arch in most swimmer's backs. This induces more drag. "Suck in your gut like you are trying to put your belly button on your spine" From a coach from Speedo, or at least he was the first I heard say this. Sucking in your gut is every bit as important as head down/in a neutral position. I am waiting for some one to get one of those endless pools and have a swimmer in there, hooked up to a scale of some sort so you can measure drag. Exactly where is the least drag position for your head? How much is drag reduced by proper head position and sucking in your gut?

How can I prevent or at least work on muscle pump when swimming front crawl? I can only do 2-4 25m lengths before my chest and triceps blow up and fatigue like I've just come out the gym from benchpressing.
I returned to swimming after many years going to the gym and doing other sports exercise like HiiT and body weight training, boxing, rock climbing and bouldering, which all required me to work on more strength training than stamina. My theory is I have spent too long developing my fast twitch muscles that now I am trying to do a more endurance type sports, needing more slow twitch I just don't have the right muscle development anymore for a sport like swimming. I dont want to compete but it's frustrating when I see other people swimming front crawl at a snail's pace for 50 lengths straight, and I'm puffing and panting after 4 lol.
What you say in the video about the faster you swim the more drag you create, because I can only seem to swmin fast to get my breathing in sync, but then if I'm having to pull harder due to increased drag, this is not going to help my muscle pump issue. If I try swimming slow my legs drop and my breathing going a bit random compared to my stroke. If I swim faster to match my breathing I get pump and fatigued.
If I only go swimming from now on should that be enough to build endurance and lessen muscle pump over time as I counterbalance the fast twitch with the slow twitch, or should I be doing other training outside the pool e.g. high reps of light weights, or assisted body weight exercises I.e. using bands and inclined positions such as inclined press ups (more reps)?
Any tips appreciated because I feel like I'll be swimming round in circles for the foreseeable :)
    TIA

Hi there! Make sure you're drinking enough water - hydration is a common factor when involving cramps!

I heard the you flabby skin fat is bad for drag. Women have advantage because the body swim suit holds in the fat.
