I echo the other comments. I was wondering if mine was broken. It took me quite a while to find your video but, was I ever relieved when I did! Thanks so much for this no-nonsense ("I'm on RUclips to be a star by demonstrating products as lavishly, slowly, or for as long as I possibly can"), straightforward, and thorough explanation/demonstration!
THANK YOU!!! I just bought mine and I was super enraged when I thought this piece was broken. There is no indication anywhere about how loose this thing was and I was ready to return it. This helped. My excitement to use it is back.
Thank you. This helped me so much. I was initially disappointed thinking my seal was broke because it was so loose. This video is a big help. THANK YOU. 😊
I see many of you thought as I, that we purchase a broken piece of equipment right out the box... thank you for clearing that up! GOD Bless all of you (Smile)!
(January 2020) I can not thank you enough for this video. I never got around to cooking my dinner because I couldn't get the lid to work properly. This video was very clear and should be included in the instructions,
Thank you so much. That was such a helpful video. The included instructions are so useless. My valve handle fell off when my lid got accidentally dropped. I thought it just sat there. But you mentioned that little silver pin which had stayed on the lid. I removed it and reattached it to the handle. Works like a charm! Thanks again.
2nd video I've watched by this guy tonight and I am feeling very confident and excited as I learn about the very things I had doubts about. Thank you for your videos. We will have beef stew as our first meal in our new instant pot.
OH my gosh. Thank you.. my steam release handle fell off when I dropped my lid. The little metal thing popped out and I watched this video and was able to see how it should go. Get it back on and have it work again!
I wish I had seen this video before gifting my fully functional IP to my sister thinking the handle was broken. haha. I just bought another IP for the 3rd time with a total investment of: $130. Thank you for the video!
Thank you very much for this video. It was exactly what I needed . I didn't know to do with the little wire, which came loose and the valve would not longer stay in place, it keep falling off the lid. Fortunately I saved it, and then I watched your video. Muchas gracias!
Thanks, I had a leak which was resolved by cleaning an almost invisible bit of food off of the pin. I didn't realize that access was as simple as pulling the knob !
At 1:40 you show the underside f the steam release handle. I see an aluminum ring over the top of 2 parallel wires. Mine does not have the ring or wires. Should I be concerned?
Do you know where I can find the silicone disk and pins that go inside the steam release handle? Mine fell out and the handle falls off easily when I remove the cover after cooking if I don't keep it flat. I can't seem to find this replacement part, but only the entire steam release handle. Thanks
Hey Doug! Please get in touch with our Customer Care team at this link so we can help you find the replacement parts you need: www.instanthome.com/contact-us
Ive been using mine for years, and now even when in the sealed position, steam gushes out around the release valve. Mine didn't come with the metal pieces, and the 2 replacement valves i ordered didn't either. The user manual says it could be a "pressure control fail". I don't know if i need to replace the metal cage under the release valve lid? Or how i would do that?
Hi Snow, we are sorry to learn about your experience with your Instant Pot! Please reach out to our Customer Care team, who would be happy to troubleshoot this with you: www.instanthome.com/contact-us
Is the valve suppose to go up when turned to sealing? I have the duo 6 qt and when I turn the knob to sealing the valve doesn't go up like it says its suppose to. Does the valve only go up when there is food actually in the pot and is in use??
The pin is an indicator of whether or not there is pressure. When enough pressure has built up, it pushes the pin up to seal the pot. When the pressure is gone, the pin falls.
I think there is something wrong with my steam release handle. I cleaned and checked it’s inside, nothing is there to hinder the sealing process. But my instapot has a hard time coming to pressure. I’ve troubleshooted with i believe all the different reasons why it might not be getting pressurized. Can I buy or be sent a new steam release handle?
The handle isn't really something that can break, it's just a weight that sits on a post. Most often, it's a recipe issue. Not enough liquid, the liquid is too thick or something is stuck or scorched on the bottom of the pot. You can always give customer service a call: instantpot.com/instant-brands-contact-us/
I just did my water test and used the steam function as advised by the manual and it took a long time to get to where it was counting down. Then during countdown the whole time almost I had a lot of steam coming from that knob. It was in the sealing position too so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
The pot won't start the countdown until it reaches full pressure. Steam should not be coming from the valve if it's set to sealing though. Make sure it is pushed on all the way and try again, if it still does it, you may want to contact customer support: instantappliances.com/instant-brands-contact-us/

I’ve had mine 2 years already and am scared of beginning. Today I took the lid off then replaced it trying to get it in the lock position. When I finally managed it it is still a little loose - not tight as I expected. Is this normal? Does the lid become tight as it pressurizes? Thank you for advice. I’ve looked at quite a few videos and am yet to find any help with the lid specifically. I have the earlier model
I got drunk and knocked my dads insta pot off the kitchen table with my butt *ON ACCIDENT* and the release valve popped off so it was nice to see this video reassuring that you can put it back on even on the older model! I’d assume!
Not sure what you mean by brackets. The Duo SV has a wire in it, if that comes out, you just put it back into the channel inside the handle. None of the other models have anything in the handle.
my steam release handle is on, it has the sulicon pin still and no food stuck. I have it to sealing and it realeases steam constantly and the pot never pressurizes to cook my food. it doesn't hold the steam in. What's wrong then?
Can you also do a video for the ULTRA? It has a different looking steam releasing thing. Can it be removed like that too? The water test failed 3 times because this constant steam leaking. I moved it around, playing with it, and after that it worked. But after working beautifully a couple of months I have the same issue now, though the lid looks clean. I need to know if the black upper part of the blocking shield is removable too for ULTRA.
Hi Libertango, Thank you for your feedback, I've passed it along to our team. Yes the steam release valve for the Ultra can be removed. @@InstantPotOfficial I've got 2 new sealing rings. It doesn't work. It keeps releasing steam unless i touch it with a spoon and then it stops escaping steam. Whenever i let go of the spoon it starts releasing again

My pot won't reach high pressure. It will reach low pressure, but then this steam release handle pops up and releases all of the steam so I just get burn notices. Instant pot won't respond to my ticket. I've been getting by cooking things longer on low pressure, but it is so frustrating.

Is there any resource that describes exactly how the valve is assembled. Position of ALL the pieces. I've been tasked to reassemble one that has been taken apart by somebody else who didn't know what they were doing. Is there an exploded diagram anywhere that shows the position of all of the washers and nuts on the valves? I have a stainless steel flat washer and a lock washer, but unsure where they go.
We do not recommend that you attempt to reassemble. Please do not use any Instant Pot that has been disassembled or attempted to be repaired. This could lead to personal injury/damage to property.
