  • This video explains the use and maintenance of the float valve on Instant Pot IP-LUX/IP-CSG series. More details and videos are at InstantPot.com.
    The float valve is a safety feature to lock the lid when there's pressure in the cooker. Before every cooking session, please make sure the float valve is clean and can move up and down smoothly.

    It has been two weeks since I have used my beloved Instant pot. I thought it was broken. I was doing dishes and found a random rubber ring in my dishwater, then later found a random pin. It didn't dawn on me that it came from my instant pot lid at first. Then I was so afraid I threw out other necessary hardware by accident when I cleaned the sink. You saved my day and are my hero! Thank you.

    Great video --thanks! I would add one safety tip -- if the valve gets stuck in the closed position and you can't open the lid, DON'T push down on the pin with a pencil until AFTER you have released any remaining pressure with the steam release knob.

    • @InstantPotOfficial
      @InstantPotOfficial  3 года назад +3

      You should never push down on the float pin when there is pressure in the pot. It can get sticky and need a tap if you are sure all pressure is gone. It should be removed and cleaned regularly.

    Thanks for explaining the mechanics of this piece. The problem is solved but not by the means you recommended.
    I cleaned it out then accidentally dropped the valve down the disposal. DOH!!!!
    Wife fished it out ---WHEW!
    It was still malfunctioning and steam was blasting out of the hole. In frustration I lifted the whole unit couple of inches
    and tapped it down on the counter. BLOOP! I heard the valve seal and did the happy dance. Thanks again, can't wait for my delicious chili to finish.

    This is a really helpful video thank you. Close up photography and clear English speech for the hard of hearing like myself made all the difference.
    My stovetop pressure cooker has very limited instructions, and I am hoping the float valve will work on the same principle. Linda, New Zealand.

    Thank you so much for this video! I used my instant pot successfully for the first time tonight, but was worried because I could not see the float valve rise from the TOP of the lid! You clarified that it rises on the inside! All instructions that came with the instant pot lead me to believe that I would see it rise from the outside of the lid. When I didn't see anything rise, I was worried. I just kept letting it cook and everything turned out beautifully. I'm relieved after watching your video!

      My daughter used her IP Lux today for first time. I was concerned that a part was missing from the value (my Duo has a red valve that does pot up - and since she got it in July she had no idea where the manual was!). You might want to look at the valve the next time the pressure comes up so you can discern when it's gone down. We'll do that next time as well!

    If that can help someone: my own valve was stuck in the down position ever though I was pressing it with my finger from under the lid. I followed this video and removed the silicone cap and it was still stuck there. I decided to push down a the time on a small metal pin used to lock the lid when the pressure is up and eventually the valve fell down.

    • @InstantPotOfficial
      @InstantPotOfficial  4 года назад +1

      The pin may have gotten sticky, especially if you cooked something starchy. You should take it apart and give it a good cleaning. Just take the little silicone cap off the end and the pin will drop right out. Clean everything well and then drop the pin in from the top and put the little cap back on.

      Not sure what you mean by the part that attaches to the top of the float valve, you have 2 pieces the pin and the small gasket. You drop the pin from the top and put the gasket on the end.

      You just pull it off. If it's a little slippery you can use a kitchen towel. It takes a little force to pull it off but you won't' break anything. it just snaps back on the same way you took it off.

    So why is my instant pot releasing steam from the sides? Also why it will not lock?

    • @InstantPotOfficial
      @InstantPotOfficial  3 года назад +1

      Steam coming from around the edges is usually a sign that your seal is not seated properly. The lid won't lock until the pot is under pressure and the pin is up. If you have a bad seal, the pot can't pressurize.

      It isn't a cap, the entire pin is red on some models, others are silver. It's one piece with a little silicone cap, so it's highly unlikely that you are missing half.

    so how do you know this pot as completed its natural release of pressure if there is no popped up valve on top of the lid to drop down? I have this pot (gave it to someone as a gift) and I have another one for myself. On mine the valve pops up and I can see it raised, and I can see when it drops back down again. Some recipes call for a natural release rather than manual, so how are you supposed to know it's completed its natural release with this pot?

    • @InstantPotOfficial
      @InstantPotOfficial  4 года назад

      Hi, all pots have a pin that rises with pressure and falls when the pressure gone. They are different on different models, but they are there.

  • @hls1023
    @hls1023 5 лет назад

    What happens if you stick a pen in there and manually push it down before enough pressure has been released? Will it allow you to do that? Seems dangerous.

    • @InstantPotOfficial
      @InstantPotOfficial  5 лет назад

      That would be dangerous, please do not try to push down on the float pin. That is merely a visual indicator of whether or not there is pressure in the pot, it is NOT meant to be used as a "button".
