      could tell it wasnt good from the trailer too much drama
      what the original did good was it sold itself as a cheap monster movie but deliverd a lot more
      the show seems to be reversed trying to show right away that the people are the monsters mises the point when somthing is served at you , you think less of it , the original is perfect cause you can say in the end i may have done the same its a realistic senario
      thank you for waching this and some of us dont and dont waist our time XD

    I hate this in zombie shows. I just wanna see silly monster apocalypse and they ALWAYS go the "man is the real monster" route:
    45 minutes in, Bubba wants to be the new emperor of post apocalyptica.

    It's obviously a cop out, it's proven in the very first scene. The mist appears and the first thing that happens is a dog gets shredded, there were no other people and I doubt a magic chipmunk got instantly transformed nor did some LOTR Ent wig out and go apeshit on the pupper. There are monsters, they either want to built up to it to justify their CGI Budget and keep it down, or they use it as some big "WATCH THE SEASON FINALE...right before they decide to cancel" with some monster reveal and no pay off.

    • @jackhanson3856

      Do you know how small the movie budget was?
      You don't even need to show the monsters that much, the audience just has to know they're out there.

    • @TheMrRott
      @TheMrRott 7 лет назад +2

      I get that but I mean, killer cockroaches?...seriously?

    • @LightAndDarkMdness02
      @LightAndDarkMdness02 7 лет назад +1

      Joe
      Oh no, I was agreeing with you. meant to reply to someone else.
      The movie had an incredibly small budget by CHOICE and it was able to do some impressive shit as well.
      Now I understand, a movie with a small budget is still like two high budget TV shows these days. However, you could still replicate what the movie did via practical effects when necessary, minimal CGI, and silhouettes in the mist. You don't need to show the monsters all the time. As long as the audience knows they're out there that'll be fine. You could do a lot with noise as well. Say, giant mist monster is walking by the mall. You could do a lot by just having the mall shake after each triumph foot step, and end the scene with the survivors seeing the silhouette of an incredibly large creature's leg in the mist, similar to the Behemoth's depiction in the book.

    • @TheMrRott
      @TheMrRott 7 лет назад +1

      Oh yeah, I totally agree with the whole less is more type of deal. I just wish they were smarter about it in their story-telling as well. But maybe, just maybe later in the season they change it up.

    well i have a theory if you want to hear it; i think there are monsters but we don't know much of the other wild life of the insects i remember roland in the dark tower series told the kid he was training "there is a dimension i went to that was shrouded in mist, never go there kid because if the insects don't kill you? whats hiding in the mist will" plus we heard a demonic gutteral growl when the soldier woke up and his dog ripped apart by something that wasn't insects

      I like that idea but, a lot of the creatures in the mist were insects - scorpion fly, gray widower, etc. I also don't remember that line, can you tell me which book it's in (probably the gunslinger, but again, I Don't remember)

    This was by far the worst adaptation I've watched. I really struggled to stay focused as there was NOTHING similar to the book / film. The film and the book were almost sisters, the film was so well done. The Mist had nothing reminiscent of the same universe, you're so right.

  • @tylerskiss
    @tylerskiss 7 лет назад +2

    I'm glad I went with my gut reaction and stayed away from this show. I never thought it would ever come close to the film, but I would have given it a chance, but I started noticing where they were planning to go with the story from the trailers and I thought to myself "holy shit, they're going to cheap out on this whole thing and just make it another man is the worst monster of all thing" and sounds like I was spot on.
    It's annoying because, as you said, the Mist is about a tear in the fabric of reality and the Lovecraftian horrors laying in wait. The "man is the worst monster of all" trope has been done so many times, I'm actually more surprised when I see a story where people actually band together and help one another when the power goes out.
    Just watch Twin Peaks- it is far more rewarding and getting better with each episode.

    I want to continue watching the Mist for only 1 reason: to see if its going from bad to worse to total crap. If the focus is supposed to be about human behaviour during crisis it needs to be believable to hold an audience's interedt. The producers writer and director have dropped the ball by not allowing the director and actors to flesh out realistic flexible characters. All were getting are stiff performances from an onfocused production. Bob & Harvey Weinstein produced the original the Mist and now this? They're following the Walking/Fear the Dead model clearly by stretching the story! LAZY!!!

    great points, and i totally agree with you that the characters often have kinda unrealistic reactions to major things. Also, it really sucks if there aren't monsters in the series, since i've always thought the mist was a way to conceal the bigger monsters so you dont know when they're coming, but if its only bugs, they practically don't even need the mist at all.

    I have always despised horror and scifi where they do the whole "the real monster is us" shtick. Firstly, I feel cheated because my motivation to watch these shows is to see and be creeped out by actual monsters. Secondly, you can have real monsters and still do a "the real monster is us" story among the human characters.

  • @KevinEontrainer381

    What makes The Mist so awesome is not because there are monsters nor because it has mist. But it is because there are Mist AND Monsters. It makes you wondering what's out there... What kind of creatures out there... that we couldn't even see through the mist.

    100% agree about it not deserving the title. I just think I'll treat it as a whole new thing and mist based story. I'm kind of leaning towards a Lost spin-off since both shows had Mister Misty monster apparition thing that also was lethal in the mist.

  • @remo687
    @remo687 7 лет назад

    The fact that they haven't shown mist-monsters actually surprised me, because the usual formula for scifi movie-to-tv shows is to do the big reveal, whatever was the big draw for the movie(monsters in this case), in the *first episode*, briefly, to HOOK the viewer, and then show it only rarely again throughout the series, because budgets and stuff. OR, they'll somehow write into the storyline that the monsters/aliens/whatever are possessing humans, or adapting/evolving and mimicking humans, and just use creepy blank-faced emotionless people in lieu of actual monsterage, to also save on FX budget.

    I guess my biggest problem with this show is that it didn't seem like the showrunners read the book or watched the movie, I dare to say Stephen King may have not actually even watched it. It feels like they were like "oh mist, great yeah....like Silent Hill, right?" And they just went with that concept, for me it felt like that, like a Silent Hill wanna be project. And all the Lovecraftian horror was turned into a washed down psychological horror. I was really mad at that fact, and even think that was their original idea but couldn't get the rights to adapt Silent Hill

  • @dontrestyourhead

    Honestly this show just got worse and worse every episode. The plot "twist" where it turns out that Adrian was the bad rapist and his homophobic dad was completely right to hate him and belittle him for wearing makeup and being queer because he was evil was both totally predictable and utterly out of nowhere. That plot point elevated this from just a bad show to being truly despicable, in my eyes.

    Thank god someone brought this up. I thought maybe they would mix the Movie The Mist with the movie The Thing. You could have human vs human tension and people going at each other and not trusting each other, that would be from The Thing. Then in the background you could show hints of monsters and have strange things happen and it gets more and more out of hand over time. By the end it could be so over run that the only chance they have is to go into The Mist because the shit hit the fan so hard. How cool would it be to end the season by a group of survivors running out into the mist because the mall is filled with monsters slaughtering people. I just think they aren't doing it right, idk. My idea any good? Maybe someone else could think of a better way to do The Mist.

  • @ericwallach5286
    @ericwallach5286 7 лет назад

    Adrian's dad mentions birds that killed his wife so possibly there are bigger creatures in the mist that haven't showed up yet. My theory is since they are so close to arrow head which the mist could be coming from and the mist has only been around for about 5-6 days from the start of season 1 to the end that they didn't show up yet and only smaller creatures (bugs, leeches ext.) are the only thing that came through the mist yet. Who knows i'm hoping there will be monster in season 2 just as much as everyone else.

    I think why there are no monsters is because of the budget and how expensive CGI can be

      The 2007 movie was made out of less budget than the TV series, so it's not an excuse.

    I believe we will see a monster by the end of the season. The black mist one doesn't count since it showed up for less than 3 minutes and it will most likely show back up. The build up of characters is nice but I can't get invested in any of them besides Alex's dad. I would like to see the spider creatures by the end of the season or the moth/scorpion combo from the movie.

    The Mist TV series was nothing more than a lousy, crappy, cheap attempt to cash on in the 2007 movie's success, and Stephen King's novel. They took out all monsters, added a lot of bullshit about "peoplez r da real monsturz", stole John Carpenter's Fog ideas, and vomitted on it. No wonder it received so negative reception. Thankfully Season Two was cancelled. Thankfully...!!!!

    I just watched this series as I love the story and Darabont’s movie. It had some good horror moments and character moments but disappointed me overall. I hated what they did with the mist and the characters acted really weird and unrealistically at times. The mist here is more like “it” in the sense it can do just about anything and mess with the characters’ heads. Why all the roaches and leeches if it could produce any deadly hallucination it wanted? It made no sense and the movie tried to go too deep with the “black spring” christianity vs. paganism conflict (though the scene where the priest and the old woman walk out into the mist is one of the show’s better moments). I was perking up at the end with Jonah’s story but the show was cancelled so it ends on this promise of finally getting some answers about Arrowhead, the origin of the mist and about Jonah, who was one of the more likable and compelling characters!

    I actually do like the show, but...wait. So it's been confirmed we won't see any monsters whatsoever? I just kinda assumed that we were leading up to the monsters and just starting off with the bugs.

    It had the life Draining Smoke Monster and those Undead Warrior Horsemen and I do think that both of them had pretty cool designs but other than that it's just Bugs so yeah it really let down in the creative Monster department which really bugs me since people on Crypt TV a literal You Tube channel can make great looking Practical Monsters.

    My theory; it is not the Mist tv show, it is IT the tv show. That makes it watchable for me. For example, the four horsemen and the darkness monster are clearly based on the fears of the victims. Plus, the whole host of dead people that show up. The Mist never had that, but IT did; the being usually appearing as Pennywise also made use of the forms of the dead to torment the victim's, and used fear against them.
    Another example; the leeches and moth. IT already used flying leeches to kill one boy, and it is too much to ask that I believe a swarm of 'natural' leeches would lurk in a hospital corridor just waiting for a guy to fall off the gurney. And a moth infesting a man and then spewing hundreds of other moths, while bursting out of his back? No, that is a supernatural monster getting its kicks.
    Why would it form a mist, if that is the case? Good question. I believe that Arrowhead have either opened the macroverse (IT's home dimension), allowing a similar, if not the same kind, of being to enter the world. Or, they discovered one of the spawn from Derry's pregnant monster (mentioned when they found it as a spider creature in the sewers) and this offspring is operating in a different manner to the parent.
    Just my thoughts, but as a huge fan of both the Mist and It, I could not help but hate how little this had in common with the novella, but as a sequel/follow up to the child eating clown, it makes me feel better.

    I get why people like it, I really do, but the ending of the movie adaptation almost effed up the novella for me. I just loved the novella, so that ending almost killed me to the point of no longer being able to read it again... a little extreme, but that's how I feel... 😑
    Now, about the series, I thought it was way overrated and nothing like The Mist... 😣

    If you want a good "monster" movie I would like to suggest the movie "The Void". It's on Netflix right now. It has a very Lovecraftian feel to it that I think you will enjoy.

    I am so disappointed in this tv series. I am with you with the annoyance of the TV runners claiming that it is similar to the novella and movie. I am also not really feeling some of the acting. They should of just made it a stand alone TV show with another name lol

    I'm guessing no one has ever heard of "building up to the main threat". They'er not going to show the main freaking threat, aka the monsters in the third episode. That would be utterly stupid. They need these few episodes to build up the main characters so we will actually feel something when they die. Otherwise, every death would be completely pointless. Lean what plot is, and then come back when you're done.

  • @bocarlsson3rd

    The movie at least are a lot about how the people are mosters as well and how it shows in a crisis situation. But without the monsters there is no tangible and grounded threat. And also: I want effing monsters. Other than that I totally agree with you. And what about the mist-ghosts!? By doing that you take out the human element of the insanity by saying it's supernatural or the mist is making people crazy instead of pressure. If I wanted ghosts I would see the fog. It's like if they said that xenomorphs are also posessed by the devil.

      Bo Anton Carlsson its weird because the mist isn't really supernatural, and it isnt scarecrow's fear toxin, it's just mist. and the monsters aren't genetic mutations or demons, they are just animals. the TV show is completely missing the point of the novella.

    I would be frustrated as well. The name attached to the project gives it such weight that they can't just reinvent the themes. Call it something else, why not. Or is it like a parallel mist, like there are different mists with different concepts... ugh nah too convoluted.
