Hobie-Wan Kenobi goes on a BFS trout fishing adventure in the Porcupine Mountains looking for native brook trout.
BFS is a great technique to place lures with precision in difficult areas such as streams.
Listed below are products used in the video:
SPOOL & BEARINGS: Roro Lure Products

LURE: Creep AIM 46S
baitfinesseemp...
A great all-around minnow lure for trout. The AIM 46S swims well in fast current and also in slow current. There are some minnows that swim very well in fast current but, require a lot of reeling and rod twitches to have action in slower waters. The Aim 46S is not one of them. The 46mm size is small enough for brook trout yet, still large enough to attract larger trout.
LINE: VARIVAS Super Trout Advance Sight Edition 4lb
baitfinesseemp...
The ability to see your line when BFS casting in streams is one that I overlooked for years. Since using the bright Super Trout Advance Sight Edition, I have been able to cast more accurately and also maneuver my lure better in current. I have a review video on the line here: • Trout Fishing Line Rev...
ROD: Tsurinoya Ares 4'7"
baitfinesseemp...
This rod has been my favorite BFS rod for small streams. The taper is great for casting lures up to 4gr. The moderate taper is soft enough to handle smaller brook trout yet, the solid carbon blank recovers very quickly to give you great accuracy. I have a few video reviewing this rod on RUclips.
REEL: Daiwa Alphas AIR TW 8.6
baitfinesseemp...
I was impressed with the Alphas AIR TW's ability to pitch light lures when fishing with the stock spool. The Roro X spool makes pitching and short casting even easier. The low, flat trajectory makes casting more accurate and also decreases the chance of line getting caught in brush.
In my opinion, I believe the combination of the Alphas AIR TW and the Roro X spool is the most capable BFS reel to date. The effortless casting and great control this setup offers I have not felt with any other BFS reel I have tried.
There are review videos of all sorts of BFS gear including the Curado BFS.

Thank you for uploading this super nice BFS video!
No problem. It was a joy to make
getting better and better mate , fun and exciting to watch ! *thumbs up*
Thank you. I try to keep things fresh
Well put together sir.
Thank you. I will be putting videos like this out more often.
Wow amazing... Nice video
Thank you. Had a lot of fun exploring new areas.
Great to see that BFE is carrying the Tsurinoya Ares rod. Perhaps the most finessey of all BFS rods.
That I have tried, yes. I have had it for years and I love it. I have used custom rods and also JDM rods...still grab the Tsurinoya
Well done video.
Beautiful place.
It is a beautiful place.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it. I was a great trip hiking to remote spots.
my Favorit Video 💪 thank you !! ....
Glad you liked it!
i love this rod !! 💪🤸 thank you !! it was the best tip ever 🫂
Glad you like it! Many people use this rod after seeing my experience with it.
I was asking of weight of lure, but it was on full description. Links was there and there was information of lure / weight...
That Creep AIM 46S is a really versatile lure. It also comes stock with Owner single barbless hooks. No need to change hooks.
that mustache is crazy camo! : ) nice vid
That is why I grow it. Fish don't see me coming.
Nice video
Thanks. Some of the scenery reminded me what Malaysia would look like
Sick video! Why does your Alphas Air Tw look soo sweet!?
I had it painted by Sagisi Customs. The same company that makes the clicking drag for the Alphas AIR TW and Alphas SV TW.
Will Baitfinesse Empire someday be shipping internationally?
Bait Finesse Empire is a newer company so, as it grows, I am sure that that option will be explored.
awesome edit my man!
Thanks. My computer didn't like doing it but, it got the job done.
Thanks for taking us on that adventure! What net are you using?
No problem taking everyone along with me. The net is the Handy Pak Net. I have the Ghost netting on it.
Love the stream content
Thanks. I have been shift more time toward trout than bass the past couple years.
@@HobieWanKenobi we are all multi species anglers...my opportunities for stream trout especially wild are slim
@@anorak_szn My opportunity for snakehead was better in the winter when I was away for the winter. A local with fishing knowledge was right outside my reach. Not sure if that person didn't want to get outfished or, was a catfish.
@@HobieWanKenobi catfish probably
@@anorak_szn I would have rather the catfish. I didn't catch a single fish down there
👍👍👍
Thank you. This was a fun adventure
I just bought Tsurinoya Ares XUL 1.4m 1-6g and Tsurinoya Dark Wolf Ultra. Hope this is a good choice as a BFS starting set. I have to you 2 questions - wwwhat is the music in this video? ;) It's awsome! ..and second one - what line would you recommend for my kit? Braid or mono? Maybe fulorocarbon? Which diameter? Thanks in advance for your response. You're doing a great job!
That is a good starter BFS setup. The rod I have used for years and I still use it. For line, starting with either braid or mono will be best. FC can be hard on BFS gear until you get used to casting a variety of lures. I like 4lb mono. Braid, you can do with 10lb or so.
@@HobieWanKenobi thank you! I have seen your Varivas review and think it would be a good choice. Haven't you really noticed a difference in taking trouts because of the green color of the line?
@@cranberr5037 I haven't really noticed any difference. Maybe in more pressured water it may make a difference.
No problem 👍
What bearings did you use, and what model spool?
Roro Hybrid Ceramic Micro Bearings. Roro AX24 Standard Brake Spool.
Okay so I have a question. Would it be possible for me to send in my own BFS reel to Sagisi Customs for it to be custom painted as well? Also, great video.
Sagisi Customs and most paint/cerakote places do not do reels. The labor and time into a reel is far beyond the worth of the product. I was on a very short list for Sagisi did for reels. Perhaps in the future he will but, not now
Rembrandt Reels on Instagram does it. Great work but, expensive like I said before
Were you telling me to use single barbless hooks of TTour for easier removal? Was about to order some #10-14 Owner trebles before you said that...
Probably was me. I really like the single hooks for unhooking fish but, also for coming through cover. Get snagged up WAY less, leading to more fish
I ordered like in six or seven sizes off those single barbless hooks and now my entire arsenal have barbless, disadvantages, maybe hook up ratio ((but that can be overcome with the time using them and as my skills grow) other than that not much, advantage, easy of use, easy to unhook the fish, they don't mess the fish so much and in case of an accidental hooking is a breeze to take out
@@mojondro I really like them for coming through cover and rocks
Hello
where can you buy such a landing net
Handy Pak Net is carried at Bait Finesse Empire
Rod?
Tsurinoya Ares: baitfinesseempire.com/product/tsurinoya-ares-series-rods/
I have quite a few videos using this rod. Great for trout up to 12in. I have taken bigger fish with it as well.
@@HobieWanKenobi nice. I’m on the jdm hype train. I have the wise stream and sensitive. good buddy has the b.b.b. Trying to find a travel rod that can handle bass and Brook trout. Wise stream makes me nervous around bass. Lol
@@jimmyparison4297 That is going to be hard to do. Maybe a glass rod. I have caught many bass with this rod. The solid carbon is tough and I have horsed many bass, bluegill and such with it. Still going strong
@@jimmyparison4297 sorry to jump on your thread , look up resilure custom rods on facebook 👍🏻we have what you might want
You talking to me or Jimmy?
