@@gurujojo8992 I’ve been following your insta for a while. I was wondering why you changed from your GTS 4.0 to a GT4. Makes sense now. I’m looking at getting into either a GTS 4.0 or a GT4 very soon myself. It’ll be my only car which I will also track twice a year. I haven’t had the chance to drive a GT4 yet so I have no clue how soft the suspension is for daily driving. The GTS 4.0 felt very nice for daily driving but a bit softer than my 981 GTSes I’ve had (and 981 S)
A proper review of the 718 Spyder. You call it correctly what it is; 718 Spyder. As a 718 owner myself, I really enjoyed watching your video. Mine is a manual, but the review of the PDK was amazing. I still like the manual, especially with auto blip function - so fun. Love the sound of the aftermarket exhaust. I am still with the stock set up. I might do something about that in the future, but for now I'm enjoying the Burmester. Thank you for celebrating the manual roof, it's too cool to not love. Also, one can use the key fob from the exterior to put the roof down without getting inside the car - nice function. Just hold down the unlock button and it sets everything up.
@@essayedgar Sort of. My buddy has both at the moment (selling the GT4 currently) and he feels there's a considerable difference between them. The Spyder feels faster but a lot softer, both in steering and suspension feel.
@@cirrus393 Well, it feels faster because you hear more wind noise etc. but it is actually slower (heavier, less aerodynamic). The suspension is set up softer, and I've heard the steering feels softer as well. I'd say it's still practically the same car though, the differences aren't that big
What a car and what sounds! This is one of you best videos! This is my favorite current Porsche. It is their most pure sports car. The only burden is the ridiculous top operation. I want one!!
I actually prefer the manual to the PDK in this car. Top down + manual transmission = more driving engagement. Deman Motorsports makes shorter gear ratios for the manual.
@@jakesantangelo4 Deman shorter gear ratios let you shift from 3rd to 4th at a little over 100. Longer gearing is great for the track. GT3 suffers from the same issue. I really do not mind the longer ratios. This issue is blown way out of proportion.
Went from an E63 AMG to the 718 Spyder to a 992 C2S and I would still buy the 718 Spyder again. This car will be in my forever garage one day….dream would be for it to get some work from Deman.
I love the 718 GT4 and Spyder but always thought that maybe they weren't worth it because of how similar to the 4 cilinder engine cars they sounded at low revs But with that exhaust? MY GOD MAN THIS SOUNDS LIKE HEAVEN. This car in pdk and that exhaust is one of my absolute dream cars now. 🔥🔥🔥
In principle I'd love a manual, but having driven both, the PDK is (counterintuitively) a lot more engaging. The gear ratios in the manual box are just too tall for enjoyable street use.
I got to drive a 981 Cayman S a couple months ago and that PDK is an absolute beast. How would you say the ride quality and handling of the 718 compares to the 981 generation? I remember the 981 being a very rough ride but a blast around the corners. Great vid as always!
I own a 981 Spyder and could recently drive a 718 Cayman GTS 4.0. The 718 indeed felt a bit smoother and especially the steering was better than in my Spyder but even though it felt quicker in corners, it was not. The big disadvantage of the 718 was the sound compared to the 981 so that I decided against a 718.
Sadly any naturally aspirated new Porsche will go for at least $50,000 over sticker these days, if you can even get one. Enjoy the symphony of sound before we’re all castrated by EV’s
You’ll probably be happy to find out all companies are dialing down EV production and it genuinely seems like we are not headed towards an all EV future
Coming from Miatas, that top operation is just too intensive. In a Miata, you just unlatch the top and push it back and down. Simple. No tent stakes or trunk opening to deal with. If I were to get a 718, I’d go for the coupe just for that reason.
Nothing is going to be as quick as the manual Miata soft top, but the Boxster will give you a normal auto soft top. The Spyder is the drop top version of the GT4 so they decided to make it more special.
Though I love how it looks and guess I wouldn't mind it, I still have a hard to swallowing a $100K price tag without an automatic top mechanism, despite the weight savings. But like I said ,I still love it
When are you getting the Macan GTS to review? Something must've went awry because you mentioned in the S review that it was coming in the next month and that was awhile ago. Was really looking forward to it.
I noticed you have tested both the LC 500 convertible and the Porsche 718 Spyder 718 pdk. In Australia the Porsche Spyder is about 60 K more than the LC, ( Forget about a 911 the prices here are stratospheric) and while they in some ways they are fundamentally different cars there are also similarities. However all things being equal I was wondering given your experiences which one would you prefer to drive or would rather own. I'm trying to make this decision myself.
If you after comfort ride, I would say get a Lexus for yourself. a Comfy ride, nice exhaust and astonishing design. As you say both of them are very very different from each other. I am sure you wont be regret to get either one. I am Porsche fanboi myself but I have to admit that I really love exotic look of Lexus LC. However, I would pick Porsche over anything else because if I am in market for sport car, I am always amazed by Porsche engineering which Lexus can't and possibly won't be in same league
Over $100,000 for a convertible and you’ve got to pull over and stop to manually put the roof up…while a 2005 Miata passes by looking at you confused. And to all of those that talk about “Porsche is just sticking to tradition”, then why do they offer it with a PDK transmission. That’s not traditional. The manual roof is the very reason I went with the 911 S Cab instead.
Fabulous looking 718 Spyder, if only it was the manual so much more fun and more a drivers car, stunning. BTW using the remote control is faster to operate the roof.
Nice timing. I am getting a Kline Inconel exhaust on my 718 GT4 tomorrow. It sounds good, can't wait. I wonder if you can find out what suspension it has. I have the MCS 2-way remote coil-overs on mine, it makes the car soooo much better as stock PASM is set up for smooth roads only and gets unsettled on broken and rough pavement. Regarding launch control with PDK, you do not need to turn off traction control and stability control for it to work. Launch control works just fine with all the safety systems on.
Looks like a mini speedster. Speaking of which the absolute joke version of the 718 spyder for the Chinese market has a 2L flat 4, which is essentially a boxster with silly roof XD
